this is totally true but i'm itching to say something because you used a word that is usually improperly used, inspiration, which i can understand the misuse of because in the past i did it too. i studied fashion design and in history class all the designing we did was taking inspiration in traditional clothing, accessories or architecture from x culture to apply the different methods we learned so that we didn't make a copy of it, because if it's a copy it's not longer inspired in, is just that, a copy; and that's when one as a creator needs to be cautious and know what they're working with to avoid disrespecting the meaning behind traditional things. for instance, this song has a latin rhythm, not inspired in a latin rhythm, those are two different things. that being said talking about the song and as a latina myself, i loved it! is such a fun sounding song without going over the top to the point of getting way too energetic, i love the music and i love how his voice sounds with it
As a Brazilian, I can say there was nothing disrespectful about 'Any Song' regarding it's influence to some of our genre. It's quite tasteful, actually. I wish people didn't go around presuming this kind of thing, no matter how well studied they are.
@@kdb5312 I understand your "inspiration/copy argument" but as someone who played trumpet and percussion in "real Latin" bands and in bands that played Afro-Latin-Carib music, I would consider that piano hook as an inspiration mode of the song. For me if it were a copy it would need the rhythm to be founded in a percussion section. I'd have to listen to the song more, but I assume In typical K-pop "fashion", there is little to nothing else in the song that is a latin rhythm. Btw I like it and one of my strong attractions to K-pop is the "borrowing" of so many types of music.
i know i can’t speak on behalf of all latinos, but at least me and my other latin friends didn’t even think about being offended when we heard this song for the first time lmao. zico was respectful, clearly did his homework and the the way he incorporated those sounds was tasteful and fun. a lot of us grew up around latin jazz so it’s pretty cool to see how widespread it’s become
I am Latina (born and raised in Guatemala, lived here all my life), and I can say that I don't know a single person who would be offended by this. It might be different for people of latin descent who grew up surrounded by a different culture, but most Latinos are flattered and excited when others appreciate and expose the rest of the world to aspects of our culture. Personally, I was so into this song from first listen because it felt familiar and seemed like the kind of song I could play at a party with my family and they would bop to it and not complain because it is in a language they don't recognize. Actually showed it to my mom and she really liked it, because the Latin influence made a kpop song into something she can relate to and have an instant connection to, when she wouldn't usually give a song in Korean a chance at all. So yeah, I am all for tasteful cultural appreciation and exchange, it broadens our horizons and makes our perspective more diverse.
The duality of the happiness from the "latin sound" and the existencialist lyrics+video creates someting really interesting. As a latino who lives in latin america i dont see it dissrespectful at all, latin "artists" are way more dissrespecful towards their own culture like rosalia or colombian mega stars so kudos for zico and enjoy the dancing
Rosalia is from Europe. As a latina myself I don't see anything disrespectful about the mix of Latin sound in their song. On the contrary, I like that they give exposure to it.
I think people are so sensitive about this issue these days. Korean artist have been incorporating Latin sounds in their music for a few years now, if not more, and I think it’s wonderful. I find that the sound of the Korean language blends well with Latin music. Borrowing music from all over the word is what makes music so exciting. It’s what encourages me to explore music and learn about other countries and cultures.
I love how different reactors have their own interpretations of what the song is to them. This is why I love art because it speaks to all of us in different ways. 💕
when i heard the latin rhythm in the background it made me so happy tbh, they used it tastefully and did great justice! my hispanic mom gives it a 10/10 as well lol
I really don't mean to sound rude or ignorant, but I just don't get the talk about cultural appropriation?? I was kinda shocked to hear that people think of it as cultural appropriation if you use certain elements in your music, tbh.. That's like saying nobody except black people is allowed to use blues, hip hop, or rap elements or nobody except people that live near the alps is allowed to jodel or only austrians are allowed to compose a waltz? For me the most beautiful thing about music is, that it isn't limited to ethnicity, culture or race, it's an universal language and you can understand so much without understanding the language that is used in a song.. I think that using any element, that is commonly used in other regions, in a song, because you like the sound of it, is not cultural appropriation but musical appreciation. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I honestly love and enjoy various types and styles of music from all around the world, so it never even crossed my mind that anyone could see using different elements of music as cultural appropriation..
As a Latina, I’m actually get offended that you thought we would be offended. We’re not that petty to get offended by someone creating amazing music influenced by us. We are actually honored by it. Smh. 😑
I was in Seoul in January and I swear every time the song played, in a shop, on the street, in a subway station people just started dancing to it and that is freaking awesome
I'm latin and I don't feel offended XD we love when artists take inspirations from latin music, we're not that dramatic, we just want to enjoy the music :)
On that bit about music culture appropriation. Bruh, he’s rapping. There’s trap influence. The whole song has a distinct western flavor to it compared to where he’s from. I don’t get it when people who dont belong to a specific culture create a fuss about someone disrespecting that culture when barely anything is heard from the people who are actually of that cultural background. Im not saying this about that guy in particular but talking generally about all the fuss that’s created. If you create an art piece after being inspired by someone or something then that’s more than welcome as long as you are educating yourself about that culture and being respectful.
I wished umu told them about the lyrics too: there is reference to what is happening in Korean pop top charts, ppl manipulating it to buy their own music(mostly sad songs) to be on top instead of actual popular artists. "요즘 이런게 유행인가=is this the trend these days"
This is song was one of my top songs for awhile, as a Hispanic person I absolutely adore this song so much. There is nothing problematic with the song.
So I showed this to my uncle who is a latino musician and he honestly doesn't get where the disrespect is(?) and neither do I, many artist have done it and will continue to do it and most of us will just continue ignoring or living with it. If anything he felt happy that it was used to create new rhythms and music 🤷♀️
I'm latina and dude music has to evolve, everything is evolving, the sound is super enjoyable and whoever gets mad about this crazy mix is just not right haha WE WOULD NOT GET OFFENDED IF A FRIKING ASIAN GUY TAKES REFERENCE FROM SOUNDS so enjoyable like those. STAN ZICO!
This is yet another bop by Zico, it charted #1 on k charts for weeks & is still within top 3. He's such an amazing rapper-singer-songwriter. Hope more people love his music☺.
i'm from latin america and i didn't feel offended by this whole rhythm thingy, i actually really like when something that i'm familiar with appears in this kind of songs ! it makes the whole song feel a lot more familiar and nice. if u r not part of the culture please refrain urself from feeling offended bcs it's not ur place !! sorry if i sound rude, i truly appreciate the concern but u r not in the right position to say if something it's offensive or not. again sorry if i sound rude or if i made any mistakes !! english isn't my first language :)
7:38 bruh. Music is music. Everything has been inspired by something else. Using different culture's music to create something new is something to be happy about. How do people expect to progress when they get butthurt over things like this? There's a difference between culture appreciation and cultural appropriation. If I use a piano in a song does that mean I'm taking away from Italian culture? (piano originated in Italy) Incorporating African inspired beats into a song doesnt mean I'm taking away their culture. It means I respect it and enjoy it. Using musical styles from other countries is a good thing. It's only bad if it's used for the wrong reasons (Ex. Using Chinese inspired music to make fun of Asians)
He didn't steal anything he used something preexisting to make something new and fun without offending anyone. He didn't call it a Latin song, he didn't appropriate it, he just used a beat
Their promotion for this song was amazing that people who have never heard of Zico before but listen to kpop knows this song. Zico knows how to get people to be interested in his comeback by bringing hwasa, chungha and sandara park in it and making a challenge out of it.
actually, he didnt bring Dara, she said she watched the challenged and waited for days to bump into him in the salon just to do it with him... just like most of the others
I always find it interesting when socio-cultural discussion is happening, especially as a sociologist. It really brings out the perspective certain communities have on the exact same thing. One side sees it as disrespectful and perceive that others think the same, while those who may have been "affected" by the apparent "appropriation" see it not so much as "appropriation" but as proof that their culture is impacting another's.
Umu, I'm waiting for your reaction for Red Velvet "The Reve Festifal Finale" , This album is bop. there are so many great songs Psycho, In & Out, La rouge etc
@@loojeeb8113 i already checked it but no signs of reacting to Psycho and they will never react to it the only song they will react on red velvet is Happily Ever After & Don’t You Wait No More
As a Mexicana and former band student, I thought the Latin rhythm wasn't offensive. I love to see other cultures incorporate our music and meld it with others. That's why music transcends. :)
I'm from Venezuela and I think this song is the bomb, have been listening to it non stop, and I even convinced my sister to do the challenge with me ;)
Look at how popular super junior is within Latin America and I feel like that shows how most people listening to Kpop feel about their culture being included in Korean songs! If Latinx people feel it’s disrespectful then that’s completely valid and I remember the lesson you guys did for the day6 song, but I’ve never actually seen anyone latinx be anything but excited when kmusic includes latin beats :) Super Junior comments section is always more Spanish/Portuguese than English or Korean most times haha. If I’m totally out of line in saying this then let me know please.
This reaction was soooo enjoyable and all of you so cute!! Henry "having been there" in all MV situations... Aaron self-identifying with Zico dancing alone, the challenge plus Isaac's "It's fun to put eggs on things"... hahaha awesome
When this song came out, I ran to this channel and see if this song reaction is on the schedule but it was on the "not going to reaction" playlist. :( BUT Yay! They have done the reaction :-) and the Any Song Challenge too!! Haha so cute
Music sees no ethnicity, no country borders, no languages... Art is universal and is able to connect and bring together even the furthest cultures. That's its greatest beauty!
this song feels very Bossa Nova inspired, as a brazilian that makes me thrilled! A very meaningful sound for us is being incorporated in songs around the world, and i love it!
Im happy to listen to a song where latin sounds and latin inspiration is not only acustic guitar, which is always more like spanish guitar. Latin music has a lot of different sounds and here we appreciate a few of those sounds. Kpop is well known for borrowing sounds and this is a nice example on how you can do it without disrespecting a culture. A lot of kpop songs with latin pop vibes were released before, but the mostly used similar spanish guitar sounds so it became overused and sometimes boring. Also those same songs had music videos that portrayed Latin culture as those hot, deserted places in the middle of nowhere. So that does seems a lot more on the stereotypical side.
Please do a react to Zicos' Language of Flowers. It's very different from his other music! It sounds more similar to an OST with a strong orchestra and emphasis in singing instead of his usual hiphop/rap songs. Very interesting to see him take a try something new and out of his comfort zone.
i swear you react to his group Block B: To all the groups I have stanned since 2009, Block b, EXO and redvelvet songs are always on point including the side tracks ^^

Isaac went so deep with it 🤣 but actually it made sense with the meaning and message of the song. Like, here I am at MY party, with balloons and presents, cake and a ton of people but it's like I'm not really there, and I'm not having fun. Superficial happiness. 1+1=0
@@8MINNE lol absolutely! western artists using other cultures as musical influence, its just something that's not disrespectful unless its done in a way to belittle or make fun of that culture or song. I mean, just check the amount of music they react to that has other cultures influence but this thought only occurred NOW because they had nothing else that's bad to mention about the song? maybe
THE ANYSONG CHALLENGE WAS SO CUTE I LOVED IT SO MUCH Also appreciative of the guy around 1:20 so seriously breaking down the beat, and the other guy just JAMMING out and dancing!
U should definitely react to his older songs, there's this one song of him that I like a lot and I can't seem to find other kpop songs with that R&B e Jazzy sound, the song is I Am You You Are Me
I think the lack of similar sounding songs to "I Am You You Are Me" is mostly because it's a really unique, complex song. It's one of my favorite K-Pop songs & there really aren't many musical reference points for it that I'm aware of. In Kpop, the closest parallel might be IU's "Modern Times" album (best Kpop album ever imo) and some of her later jazzy tracks (like my favorite song by her, "Palette" and her recent title track, "Lilac"), which have a slightly different vibe than this, but are still jazzy & exceptionally well done. Zico's duet with IU, "Soulmate" is related to "I Am You You Are Me," in the sense that it's essentially a second song covering the same general theme of seemingly fated or predestined relationship types and has a somewhat similar vibe, but I'm guessing you're familiar with "Soulmate" already. If the comparisons aren't limited to K-Pop, the closest songs I've heard to "I Am You You Are Me's" vibe might be some of Prince's jazzier songs (not his hits, but album tracks like "When the Lights Go Down" or "Strollin" or his live shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival, which are RUclips). Steely Dan also has some really intricate, jazzy songs that are sort of second cousins to this (Rikki Don't Lose that Number, Haitian Divorce, Glamour Profession...), but with some production elements that are clearly from a different era... maybe Sade ("Smooth Operator"), as well. But you really don't hear the "I Am You You Are Me" sort of vibe nearly as often as I'd like either. I think the biggest part of that is really just that it's seriously hard to do well & it's probably not a coincidence that Prince (who was basically in his own league as far as overall musical talent) and Steely Dan (famous for hiring some of the best jazz musicians to do session work on their records) have made some of the most similar music to it. IU is also just super- talented in the technical sense necessary to pull off this sort of music... she wrote (i.e. music & lyrics, no co-writer) "Friday," the acoustic swing-pop big hit from "Modern Times" at age 19 or 20, and I feel like IU and Zico (and maybe Sunmi) are basically on their own tier in K-Pop (which has been MUCH better than Western pop for at least a decade now imo).

Hahaha the Any Song Challenge at the end was so cute!
지코노래는 그냥 생각없이 들어도 좋은데 가사안에 들어있는 여러의미와 중의적 표현등 가사만 봐도 재밌음
As a Latina, I’m actually get offended that you thought we would be offended. We’re not that petty to get offended by someone creating amazing music influenced by us. We are actually honored by it. Smh. 😑
The reason I unsubscribe. I feel offended. This channel ia so ignorant.
@@lilyblack1979 Wait! Not the channel, it was a poor thought of someone who can be talked to and explained, no need fo grudges here
I laughed so hard at the end especially because of Kevin and it was cute at the same time
I was in Seoul in January and I swear every time the song played, in a shop, on the street, in a subway station people just started dancing to it and that is freaking awesome
김나원 exactly! There are meaning to the scenes and it’s not just random! But I guess they are too busy
This is song was one of my top songs for awhile, as a Hispanic person I absolutely adore this song so much. There is nothing problematic with the song.
Kevin doing the any song challenge is literally me trying to do it. I’m dying of laughter at the similarities
This is my NEWEST RINGTONE AND I DANCE WHENEVER MY PHONE RINGS . LOL
Oh good idea. I’ve had a Day6 I Wait ring tone for years, time for a change.
@@l.c.6282 day6 will be my next ringtone,,, but not yet.. I've been obsessed with their songs for a while 🤭
OMG we have the same ringtone. Hahaha.
He didn't call it a Latin song, he didn't appropriate it, he just used a beat
thank you for the Zico reaction! It's great to hear their thoughts about it and then doing the dance challenge? SUPER CUTE!!! 💖
Umu must do it too 👀😂
Their promotion for this song was amazing that people who have never heard of Zico before but listen to kpop knows this song.
Disrespectful? Oh cmon, music is for everyone!
The end part of the video should be called "THIS IS THE REASON WHY WE MAJOR IN MUSIC AND NOT IN DANCE"
it was fun by the way 10 for the effort
What I got from the comments:
Pretty much NO ONE thinks there was anything disrespectful/problematic with the use of "latin jazz" in the song.

"Hey Isaac, did we listen to the same song?", Kevin.
Love Kevin, they're hilarious
As a Mexicana and former band student, I thought the Latin rhythm wasn't offensive. I love to see other cultures incorporate our music and meld it with others. That's why music transcends. :)
I hadn't seen the music video before, so I didn't know just how freaking relatable Zico is! No thank you to big parties like that!!!
I'm like 😒😒😒 when he was talking about being disrespectful. When is music disrespectful??? Unless it's used for hate. Srsly.
I loved everything about this video. Learned musical terms and the dance sequence was so good! 😄💕

I LOVE HOW THEY EXPLAIN THE TRANSITION IN MUSIC EVENTHOUGH I CANT UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE THING AND I WAS LIKE YEAH
Me, being latina, really enjoyed the latino sound the song had and didn't find it disrespectful at all. It made me happy actually!
me as a brazilian was wainting for someone that hear like samba or mpb vibes in this song and yeahhhhhh its so good
Kevin and Isaac are doing the challenge in such a funny way, they're the perfect combination... I also think Brianna nailed the challenge! 💙
"oh my goosh he need to clean up his house" is me when I react Anysong's MV
This reaction was soooo enjoyable and all of you so cute!! Henry "having been there" in all MV situations... Aaron self-identifying with Zico dancing alone, the challenge plus Isaac's "It's fun to put eggs on things"... hahaha awesome
마지막 춤추는거 넘나리 졸귀탱,,
그러니까요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
lmao those two guys have such a stuck up attitude about them, really brought down the vibe of the video
4:15 "i thought that was just-whHAAT" idk why this is so funny for me
I reaaly love the last part of the video. I can't believe that they did the challenge. Love ur work, ur reactions and all of u
ahhh i've been waiting for this!!! could have checked the schedule but the surprise is nice
Believe me this is my first time i open some video so fast oh god I'm so so addicted to this song i Love You always zico
When this song came out, I ran to this channel and see if this song reaction is on the schedule but it was on the "not going to reaction" playlist. :( BUT Yay! They have done the reaction :-) and the Any Song Challenge too!! Haha so cute
The dude calling out the chord progression must have TONS of friends,,
Ending this one with the Any Song challenge was perfect! Y’all are cute and so much fun! 😘
That Any song challenge made my day!!! So fun!
Thankyouuu for the reaction love this one
I like Isaac's review! Very intuitive. Totally captured why I like the song. 👏🏽 THE ANY SONG CHALLENGE AT THE END WAS HELLA CUTE
So that does seems a lot more on the stereotypical side.
you'll (I hope) enjoy Ukwon - Fuego (I guess its more raggae tho)
Please do a react to Zicos' Language of Flowers. It's very different from his other music! It sounds more similar to an OST with a strong orchestra and emphasis in singing instead of his usual hiphop/rap songs. Very interesting to see him take a try something new and out of his comfort zone.
Love the ending!! I've been binge watching your videos for like a whole day and well you all never disappoint 👌
thank you for this and thank you for the dance cover it was so cute and especially today - THANK YOU
i swear you react to his group Block B: To all the groups I have stanned since 2009, Block b, EXO and redvelvet songs are always on point including the side tracks ^^
THE ENDING WAS SO CUTE!

Isaac went so deep with it 🤣 but actually it made sense with the meaning and message of the song. Like, here I am at MY party, with balloons and presents, cake and a ton of people but it's like I'm not really there, and I'm not having fun. Superficial happiness. 1+1=0
AS A MEXICAN WHEN I HEARD THE MUSIC I WAS LIKE NO MAMES and it was my most listened song of the year 2020
I like Issac's opinion of this song, there's a lot of time we shouldn't just listen to the music but also study the lyrics, nice one
so good!! zico produced super junior's 2ya2yao too, and the vibes and general sound of it is super different
The instrumentals really give me like 60s beatnik or movies vibes.
You guys should have turned on the captions so the mv would make sense. The lyrics are really good. Good reaction btw
7:38 What a load of bollocks... he obviously loves Latin music. How is that disrespectful.
It's not. actual latin people don't think its offensive at all, but they seem to always have something bad to say when it comes to block b
Right?! Also: here was me thinking music is universal... You don't hear me complaining about Kpop exploiting Europop LOL (Netherlands based, me).
@@8MINNE lol absolutely! western artists using other cultures as musical influence, its just something that's not disrespectful unless its done in a way to belittle or make fun of that culture or song. I mean, just check the amount of music they react to that has other cultures influence but this thought only occurred NOW because they had nothing else that's bad to mention about the song? maybe
THE ANYSONG CHALLENGE WAS SO CUTE I LOVED IT SO MUCH
Also appreciative of the guy around 1:20 so seriously breaking down the beat, and the other guy just JAMMING out and dancing!
