  • I bought this car in 2020 as a summer cruiser to keep occupied with while everything was shut down. I did a bunch of minor work to it and then discovered some major damage to the fiberglass floor pan. It must have been that way for a long time judging by all the dirt packed under the carpet.
    I used it as an excuse to junk the 700R4 this car came with and swap in a 6 speed ZF6 that came in 89-96 C4 Corvettes while thr car was torn apart. I also replaced the 3.07 Dana 36 with a 3.45 Dana 44 rear.
    The transmission and rear are unknown mileage/condition. The clutch is a Spec Super Twin but not sure of the trim.
    I can't wait to get this interior back together and really enjoy the 6 speed.

      Have you started the swap already? It is not so bad. I have been taking forever since I had so many other projects going on.
      It is absolutely worth the effort. I can't wait to finish the interior so I can do some cruising. This winter I hope to do heads cam and intake. Already have a miniram ready to go on.

    awesome work is this the blue tag zf6 or the black tag?

    • @One_Shot_Garage
      @One_Shot_Garage  Год назад

      The ZF6 in my 85 is one of the weird ones. It's a 94 unit with a black tag and lift ring shifter, but in 94 the black tag transmissions used the later gears and throw out bearing guide tube of the blue tag transmission. It is an 084 part number.
      Just something to be aware of when you are on the hunt for a ZF6, go by the part number on the tag, not the tag color itself.

      No offense taken to that. The test drive after the 6 speed swap was open headers.
      I also had 3 different exhausts in this video so if you are referring to any of the burnout videos, I agree it sounded horrible.
      It was a true dual setup into turbo style mufflers and sounded awful. The car now has longtube headers, x pipe and LT1 mufflers

      @@One_Shot_Garage I'm def going use some of your ideas. Over the coming winter I'll be transforming my 86 z51. I have two GM8 turbos from a chevy 6.5l diesel that are getting stuffed under the hood.

      @@davidbrewer8309 a turbo l98 will be plenty of fun for sure. I'm sure it will absolutely annihilate tires. I used an Alpine ILX-W650 with the alpine power pack amplifier that mounts to the back of it. I still need to trim the radio bezel to fit but I am happy with it so far.

    Did you swap from 700r4 or from the 4+3 transmission,I would love to do this to 85 is actually the same exact color as your car ..only difference is I have c6 wheels ,previous owner had a 383 on mine and swapped to a 700r4 from the 4+3 ,I wonder if I can do the 6 speed,I have a dana 44 on the rear .

    • @One_Shot_Garage
      @One_Shot_Garage  2 года назад

      My car originally came with a 700r4. Swapping the ZF6 into a 4+3 car is even easier. You still need to modify the trans tunnel and make a few wiring changes. The current c beam in your car will work just fine for the ZF6.
      Your biggest obstacles are deciding on a clutch and flywheel for your two piece rear main SBC (unless a later SBC was swapped in at some point) and you will need to decide on clutch hydraulics. From what I remember, the only 4+3 clutch components you can use is the clutch pedal and master cylinder. Everything else has to either be from a ZF6 car or you can convert to a push release hydraulic throw out bearing setup.

    Do you have a product number for the ACI transmission patch panel? I can't seem to find one.

      The product number is ATC010. If you give them a call they will have one made for you. I don't believe they are typically stocked. But they made one for me super quick. I was pretty surprised. Price is likely around $180 or so.

      They are Rays Gram Lights 57CR in gunblue II. 5x120mm pcd, +38 offset, 18x9.5"
      Strangely enough, they are actually off the shelf wheels for an FK8 (2017-2021) Honda Civic.

    What all did you have to do to get the zf6 to fit? Which torque brace, drive shaft, etc did you use? Any tips im trying to do this in my 85 for cleetus and car in my VetteKart. An why did you cut/change the birdcage.

    • @One_Shot_Garage
      @One_Shot_Garage  Год назад

      The torque brace and driveshaft are differential specific and not transmission specific. The Dana 36 came in auto cars and the Dana 44 came in stick cars but if yours is an auto you can keep the d36, c beam and driveshaft, you just need a ZF6 Yoke. Just be aware the D36 is not as strong as the D44.
      I used a fiberglass floor section from ACI in order to fit the ZF6. You don't have to do that and can just cut the floor for clearance and patch it back up however you prefer but I wanted my swap to look as clean as possible.

    • @One_Shot_Garage

    Hey that Six speed swap was it easy to do was there any extra modification coming from the Doug Nash to the six speed?

    • @One_Shot_Garage
      @One_Shot_Garage  Год назад +2

      I swapped from a 700R4. Starting with a stick car will save the hassle of sourcing and fitting the clutch pedal and master, but you still need to modify the floor to fit the ZF6 no matter what trans you start with

    Did you use a single mask or dual mass flywheel?

    • @One_Shot_Garage
      @One_Shot_Garage  Год назад

      Single mass, it is a Spec Super Twin Clutch and some sort of custom 2 piece rear main billet flywheel. It came with most of the swap parts I bought, otherwise it is way overkill for what my end goal is on this setup.
      Definitely rattles a bit, but I also had zero interior in the car when I tested it. I'm hoping it is a little better with some insulation and carpet

    You are lugging the engine with super low RPMs.... Shift later. This will put too much load on your bearings.... Ask a mechanic....shift at 2000rpm or more.

    • @user-pe3mp6nx5e
      @user-pe3mp6nx5e 4 месяца назад

      Don't drive at 15 miles per hour in 3rd gear. Very bad loading....

    • @One_Shot_Garage
      @One_Shot_Garage  4 месяца назад

      These transmissions were actually designed with an actuator that forced a shift from 1st directly to 4th under light throttle. Way more lugging than how I drive haha. The l98 is also a pretty torquey engine, it is perfectly happy at 1300 rpm and above under light load.
      When I build a new motor, that will no longer be the case as the cam I have chosen won't be very efficent below 2000rpm.
