I’m currently reading The Sherwood Ring and am enchanted so far! For Jane Austin July I tend to read books about Jane Austin or about the Regency Era and then I save a novel for Febregency. Thank you for sharing your reads with us!
Willa Cather wasn't Catholic but she was clearly familiar with and sympathetic toward the Faith. Her Shadows on the Rock includes a character in early Quebec who was also a real life Bishop (Laval) and Saint. I have loved her writings since my teens and have read all but two of her novels.
Anna Karenina is such a wonderful book, loved the quote about that character! I've read two by Edgeworth but hadn't heard of The Absentee. Hope you enjoy the next part of the book!
If I’m remembering correctly, I believe Jeremy Irons was the narrator for Spaceship Earth before Judi Densch. And wasn’t he the voice of Scar in The Lion King too? He must be great reading an audiobook. He has such a dramatic voice. I’m going to have to find that version now. I like to listen to an audiobook while I cross stitch to unwind.

I just finished reading Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray for the first time, and I surprisingly loved it! I'm also in the middle of a 19th century Italian novel called The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni. It has some amazing Catholic characters and imagery; I'm loving it too!
They're both such good books! 😍 It's been years since I read Vanity Fair, but I remember enjoying it too - I need to make more progress in the Thackeray novel (The Newcomes) on my summer TBR. 🙈 The Betrothed sounds so interesting!
The masterpiece theatre version is done played by Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. Authors name pronounced WAH. His biography of Edmond Campion is my favorite!!
