  • Short video on rigging a cigar box and Italian field easel for use in plein air landscape painting.
    The ones I have are all made by Fome in Italy: www.fome.it/pro.... You can find them online for $60 USD-ish.
    For more videos check out my Patreon page: / marcdalessio . Per month, it's the cost of a cup of coffee if you live in the US. Six cups of coffee if you live in Portugal.

    Perfect timing, I just bought a field easel the other day. Thanks Marc!

    Thanks for the video, Marc. I have that exact easel and luckily enough I have several cigar shops near me that are usually receptive to giving me a few boxes when they have them available. I’ve been using them for charcoal and other drawing tools. I’m looking forward to converting one into a palette.

    What a fabulous suggestion. I'll hit up the local cigar shop tomorrow and see if they have any spare boxes for sale.

    I borrowed and have enjoyed your setup for years - thank you. Question - is that panel holder in the background a repurposed cd storage rack? I need something like this as I'm running out of room.

      Yes. We buy every CD rack we find at flea markets. They're great for panels.

    Thank you Marc, pretty sure I have seen that original box in Ireland in action! So anyhow, I did the same - cut the legs of the easel for travelling to fit that into the maximum size in airplane bag.. Then just replace those with longer ones back home. All the best to you guys! I’ve seen some on eBay with hinges on already. I take it they would work just as well? Although they do look a bit heavier. Thanks for the video!

      As long as they can hook on, it should be fine. Mine weighs a ton from the dry paint.

    I envy your skill and your setup! Any idea if/where I could find an easel like that in europe?

      Zecchi sells them in Florence. Otherwise just Google 'Italian steel field easel' in your native language. They're made in Italy.

    Do you find the mast jiggles? Is there a fix? Thanks for the video!

    • @MarcDalessio
      @MarcDalessio  3 года назад

      It shouldn't jiggle if it is tightened properly. You'll need an Allen wrench (aka hex key)..

    Hi mr Dalessio. I made my own colors but i never succeeded or i dont know how some colors in commercial brands have a buttery consistency. Do tou know what filler (maybe) or a binder or a gel they put inside those oil colors? Thanks

    • @MarcDalessio
      @MarcDalessio  2 года назад

      I believe the most common binder these days is Aluminum stearate. I've also heard of using beeswax in blues and I tried it a few times with varying results. It's been a decade since I regularly made my own paints, so you might find better resources out there.
