  • This rare and elusive species is nocturnal and despite its name, is actually a cousin to the raccoon. Longmont Animal Control responded to a call regarding a “raccoon-like” animal hunkered down in a resident’s kitchen pantry. When the critter was finally captured, it was brought to our facility for evaluation. Our licensed rehabilitator found no injuries, but it was determined the ringtail should be released in a better-suited habitat than the downtown Longmont area where it was found. With the help of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, we were able to pin down the perfect site. Large canyon walls and plentiful water resources were ideal features for this lost Ring-tailed Cat. Within hours of arrival, it bounded from its transport crate and climbed into the nearest tree. We are so grateful to Longmont Animal Control and Colorado Parks and Wildlife as we helped get this Ring-tailed Cat from kitchen pantry to natural habitat. Thanks to collaborative efforts, this cat can climb free once again!

What a gorgeous animal! I pray this ring-tail thrives and finds a mate in it's new relocation territory. So grateful for Greenwood's support and rehabilitation of our wildlife!!
