"If we can't live together, we're gonna die alone." The fun about LOST Season 1 is that it throws you right into the story. You're as confused and lost as the survivors. But after every episode, you get to know them better, know their names, learn their backstories etc. It makes you feel like you're part of the group. It's so beautiful looking back and seeing all the little details that you missed from watching it the first time.
I love the points this episode makes about heroism, and of which you discussed... ... the point being that everyone in life is always so quick to blame and point the finger at whoever steps up to lead and be heroic, yet so many are terrified to lead themselves. While they’re all standing back afraid to help Jack rescue that person from the water, they’re also the same people who are each demanding someone to organise and lead them. It’s a great story in showing how leadership takes incredible courage and guts, and you have to accept the fact that nobody will ever be happy even though they probably will never do better themselves. It’s a message and situation I’ve seen so rarely explored in other films and tv shows, so it’s really special I think. All in all it really makes you feel empathy towards and understand Jack; he’s not just an all American Boy Scout stereotype hero - he’s a normal guy just wanting to do the right thing - but like normal people he too wants to run away from that responsibility. He’s not perfect as as is no one, but he is ultimately incredibly burdened by his good heart. Great reactions and discussion!
Lost is a beautiful and emotional jorney. Mum deserves to have this experience with you guys. I promise she will enjoy this show much more than others she's been watching. Love your reactions!
I think you misunderstood about Boone and the water. Boone was afraid someone would steal the water and hoard it. His plan was to take the water and then ration it out. He had every intention of giving some to Claire, but then it became such a huge incident that he knew he'd be accused of stealing it for himself. Despite all this, he did try to give some to Claire. And Jack's point at the end was that everyone wanted someone else to be in charge, and when Boone did take charge of the water, they got mad at him and refused to hear his explanation for doing so.
"You were right Tom." Of course he was right. Alice in Wonderland is the origin of the phrase "follow the white rabbit". Films like The Matrix were simply making a reference to that story.
This episode takes place on day 6 after the crash of Oceanic Flight #815.🌴🛫🌄🛬🌴 TRIVIA: White Rabbit was Sydney Bristow's call sign in Alias, another J.J. Abrams show.
IMO, your intro discussion, pointing out *Locke's* scenario,¹ is a great lesson on how we rarely know people and their stories. We make judgments based on superficial markers. But look how weird and _so very wrong_ we were about *Locke* at the beginning. *Edit:* My interpretation was always that *Locke* killed the boar. 🤷🏼♂️ But I haven't seen it in years. 5:43 The number one mistake I feel many parents make is not explaining things to children. That's how they get frustrated and end up shouting _"Because I said so!"_ I once got the *best advice* from a neighbor who was a kindergarten teacher, shortly after my daughter was born. She told me, _"Try to avoid saying _*_'No'_*_ to your child."_ Of course, I thought that was odd, given the many things that children shouldn't do. But she explained, _"Instead, explain to them _*_why not."_* As many parents already know, generally when you simply give them a _"No,"_ they will invariably ask _"Why not?"_ anyhow. But when you explain *why not,* instead of simply saying _"No,"_ that usually ends the conversation. . .Assuming you explained it properly. 😁 •••✺●✺••• ¹─ And quite frankly, everyone else's too, as we come to know their stories.

I think everyone just waits for Jack to get back to the beach with Boone because they don't yet realise that someone else is still out in the water (and that Jack will therefore be going straight back out there).
LOST is a great show! I was in college and grad school when it originally aired and my friends and I would get together every week with dinner to watch! It’s funny that you mentioned that you didn’t think anyone else would be reacting to this... that brings up a suggestion. Alias is the show J.J. I think the airplane flashback scene at the end was meant to imply that his father's body was not going to pass customs, so when Jack finds the casket empty he is distraught because his body was not on the plane. At least that was my interpretation of that.
The airline wouldn't have shipped back a empty coffin. The woman at the counter let things slide and allowed Jack's father to go through customs is my personal interpretation.
@@charmedoriginal5923 if Jack already purchased the coffin it's his personal property and if he had already paid for the cargo transportation more than likely right, not sure they could refuse to ship that. They would most likely just transport his fathers body back to the morgue because that, not the coffin, is what would not have cleared customs right?
@@huckleberryfinn1925 I always thought that too -- that an impassioned speech doesn't negate international law. I always assumed that Jack had to go home without his father's body and the coffin was always empty. But if that's true... Jack seems very relaxed on the plane ride home. But if that's not true... Jack seems very relaxed to on an island with his dead father wandering around. Neither possibility really makes much sense, honestly.
