Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey helps a homeowner install a tankless toilet-bidet combination unit. Richard first talks about non electric bidet options. This bidet attachment uses the current toilet seat and connects to a water source. It has a t-valve installed at the water connection to the tank and utilizes dual nozzles.
Where to find it?
Richard places the wax ring on the flange. Once the toilet is aligned over the flange and bolts, Richard sets the wax ring by pressing down evenly on the toilet. Richard uses a wrench to install a washer and nut onto each bolt, making sure to tighten the nuts one quarter turn beyond hand tight.

As an electrical guy, let me give the gentle reminder that code requires all the receptacles in the bathroom have GFCI protection section 210.8.(A).(1)..
Code section 210.11.(C).(3). Allows for one breaker to supply everything in one bathroom or for one breaker to supply several bathroom "sink receptacles". This means that power for the bidet receptacle can come from a circuit other than the bathroom circuit. Again, it must be GFCI protected.
This is one of those clips that will be really funny in the future, like when Richard introduced these new fangled "PVC" pipes to Bob Vila.

I may have to undertake this project soon because the neighbors have started to complain about me using my garden hose in the backyard as a makeshift bidet. I thought everyone did that, but apparently not. 🤷🏻♂️

We have two Japanese toilet seat bidets (one for each toilet) and wouldn't want to be without them. I kind of like having the bidet as a separate add-on appliance, because if something goes wrong (it's been over 10 years, no problems yet) you can replace just the bidet and not the whole toilet.
Santa Claus, I want one, lol!! What’s ever better about this toilet is the design of the porcelain base! It has no nooks and design elements to clean like a regular toilet, which makes cleaning the outside of it super easy! Brilliant!
Until now, I’ll have to stick to my Kohler manual bidet! It still gets the job done.
A few years ago, we purchased a walk-in shower. Unknown to us, a bidet came with it. They installed the bidet combo toilet and showed us how to operate it. Great! When I asked how to clean it, I was told "just like a conventional toilet", let me tell you, it is NOT like a conventional toilet. The wands get filthy with fecal matter, and other stuff. I clean it often but can't do it as often as recommended. I looked it up and we should dismantle certain parts once a month for cleaning and other parts once a year for cleaning. I'M DONE! I love certain aspects (heated seat, great when prepping for colonoscopy, etc.), but my life does not revolve around a toilet! Looking for better options now.

@@OGCJ10 I'm in Ireland and the model I use is German manufactured by Gerbitt there is a less costly model called a closomat, but it looks bulky in comparison to the Gerbitt model.
So fun, you will always feel clean.

What a beautiful bathroom.
They make bidet toilets as a whole unit, as well as aftermarket bidet seats (should you not want to buy a new commode). For wider bottoms you may wish to get one with a wireless remote, as those units with the attached seat controls are hard to toggle if your hips cover the buttons. And if you have IBS, UC or Crohn's Disease, a bidet is a true investment in better health and hygiene. Love bidets for any home. 😊

For those that dont know there are also some cheaper attachments that can go on any 2 piece toilet
Look i get it, if you have not used one it sounds odd. But years ago i saw the attachments at home depot and installed one in my house and believe me once you get used to it youll never want to go back.
People dont even realize how much they leave behind with dry paper

@starrystarrynight9822 not at all but I am a blue collar guy. If your not used to installing stuff you should youtube and watch how others did it before trying.

Hey Richard we just decided we want a bidet installed, luckily before we thought of it we had an outlet installed and everything ready to go for some odd reason.
That looks like a lot of electronics that can break, and a lot of crevasses that are hard to clean.
at least they are good at cleaning crevasses 🤣
Install a smiley face on the lid. I prefer a hose bidet, I've used it to fill or rinse off stuff.

1:33 You might want to replace that outlet with a GFCI unit.
GFCI is usually up by the sink. They probably tied this into it.
Not every outlet has to have a GFCI. If the one on the wall is GFCI and then feeds that one, it is also protected.
And when the power goes out? At least is there a manual flush?
If you have room go for discrete side by side. The bidets also are dogs favorite source of running water.

I live in Vegas and that Valve is usually a 3/8 compression coming out of the wall,I usually suggest using a double shut off ,and use the 3/8 to 1/2 adapter and have a dedicated shut off for bidet..and as a professional I'd like to think she over paid for everything in that bathroom because she wanted her way ,but that flooring looks Sus let's hope they sealed it up well.
The flooring in that bathroom looks to be vinyl flooring which is completely waterproof and works great in bathrooms.
You don't need a hot water hook up as well? Is the toilet heating the cold water?
Yes. It heats the water.
A fancy one like that heats the water, you can also get cheaper ones that just use room temp water.
That kick flusher alone is a dope feature
I feel the average dope gets along just fine with a traditional handle system.
I rather liked the idea too, as long as the button will work with not too much force (tender bare feet in the middle of the night). And some of the bidet lids have sensors that make them auto open and close - might like that feature too.
Ps you can get the attachments for about $50 at home depot.
Really, this all in one unit still has two hoses going into a T? I thought this was supposed to be superior to the seat conversions. I got an electric seat that does all of thst except for the flush!
I also thought it was weird this super fancy toilet made you use a visible T.

@@Navy1977 That's what I was afraid of. That's just about my monthly average so this would be like adding another month's electrical usage to my annual bill. But no doubt worth it if you reach the point where you need help with this.
@@Navy1977 Tiny apartment in San Francisco. Most of that is just the fee for access to the grid, by electricity is much less

Newsflash!
With the exception of a concrete slab,
there's wood on the floor in every bathroom.
Now, if someone started using plastic for the sub floor, that would be an additional exception.

The purpose of a floor covering is to protect the wood sub floor.
If the tile has a crack in it, then the sub floor is going to get wet and deteriorate.
Properly sealed wood floors are just as good as tile or linoleum, however, any covering you put on the sub floor can fail so you have to take care of them properly.
In the end, what people decide to put on their sub floors, comes down to a matter of taste and preference in look and style.

Yes, they would fall under the category of concrete slab.
While concrete slabs are typically a ground level construct, there are concrete slabs placed on upper levels when the construction of the building calls for it.
The most common upper level concrete slabs are found in parking garages and on bridges. In homes, they are used to support the washer and dryer. A bathroom is a definite good place to have them.
Please connect this to your smart home speakers and system? Please set it up so it can realize each person who has either their smartphone or smartwatch on and by the toilet so when someone goes to sit down their temperatures and water pressure will be set in real-time for them?
Having a remote is a silly design. In Japan, the control console is mounted to the wall.
Does this bidet have an app? Some might want that to track usage, share on social media, monitoring excretions for health, etc. Imagine having to pay a membership fee to go.

The manual says that if the power goes out, it will still flush by pressing the STOP button on the remote.

No flush without electric power.
Just pour a bucket of water in the bowl, it'll flush.
The manual says it will still flush in a blackout if you press the STOP button on the remote.

She just got back from Europe and is paying for a remodel and this old house goes there? My son has a leaky shut off valve on a toilet and a plummet said it was going to cost $419 to repair. That sounds like the kind of place that this old house should be going to, not to a rich person's house, which I am seeing more and more of in their videos.
@@Navy1977 this used to be a show about people that didn't have a ton of money and were renovating a house. But in the last 10 years all I found is people who live in brownstones or on the ocean or in million dollar houses. Just wondering, if you were to get something gross on your hands or face, would you just wipe it off with a dry paper towel and go about your day (or to dinner)?

First off, they aren't 2700. Super nice ones are like 1500. Most are under 900. Secondly, investing in something that you use at least once a day for years and years is not a bad use of money. A luxury, sure. But its like buying a quality office desk chair

Nothing wrong with a bidet, this one is a bit much, but wet wipes are terrible for septic and city sewers

@@rottenparts Well, basically there was absolutely nothing different between installing the bidet toilet than any one of the dozens of regular toilets I have installed, except for a T connection at the source and plugging it into electricity. If you don't know how to install a toilet, then go on RUclips, and watch one of the hundreds of videos on there. You don't need ATOH to show you how. I stand by my criticism that it was mainly a commercial for a high end, heated water and seat toilet. BTW, it WAS kind of an ugly toilet too, but that's just me.
