This was probably the only time Ace ever thought positively about his father. That was only because he didn't know Yamato was referring to him.
It shows how he doesn't hate his father per say, i mean he never met him, but he hates the cursed legacy that was put on him because of his father.

It’s amazing how the animation was drop dead GORGEOUS the entire episode. Seriously even in this touching scene the animation is beautifully stylized and full of life. Seriously this episode was better animated than most mainstream anime finale’s I mean in my objectively honest opinion this animation style just surpasses Goku and Co. vs Jiren in The tournament of power.
And the next episode is out of budget💀💀

@@ChristIsKingLordOfAll some people are speculating that this type of amazing extra contents are just Oda's writing which didn't get into the manga for editorial reasons, and there has been some scenes officially confirmed in SBS.
So, I wouldn't be surprised if Oda wrote tha, but scrapped this part because he was running out of page/panel in manga. So, he gave it to the anime team.
Ofc it doesn't matter if this was done by Oda or not. This enhances Yamato's character, which the manga couldn't

Then at 0:22 she refers to him aloud as "great man" so Ace doesn't know she's talking about Roger.

What i love about this scene is that it proof that even though ace has a tendency for a recentment towards who he is as the son of roger and his dad in general he actually has that side that thinks he's dad wasn't a that bad of a person and actually has values that he respect....
Its painful that Ace ends up being next in line to die when Yamato wanted to go with him to the seas.
She now has hopes for Luffy, and I feel only him right now can achieve that dream of hers.

The difference is that they did'nt spend an entire arc and a full movie quality animated episode for carrot's backstory. This and the fact that Yamato waited for Luffy all his life.

My biggest peeve is that Ace never knew what a good man his father was, sure he can still see Whitebeard as his main father figure, but at least appreciate that Roger is the reason Ace was able to live and be brothers with Luffy and Sabo.
Honestly, part of the potential i saw in Ace as a character is an arc where he grew to accept and appreciate his Father and maybe even change his name back to Gol D Ace, would've been really neat to see Ace learn more about Roger through the people he had an impact on too.
