The current snapshot feels REEEEALLY unfinished at the moment. If I were you, I would wait until at the very least the new biomes get added and a lot of the new materials get added to survival in a final-ish form.

I feel like it is too early to update to the snapshoot yet. There are still plently of mechanics that aren't nearly done.

Autocrafting was truly a great addition for this series.

aaaaand we're done here, thanks for watching! *waves
The only problem with snapshots is that they're more frequent than releases, so technical things change rapidly which might make keeping up with farm/contraption updates too difficult. For example when they removed Zombie Pigman XP farms for a week and brought them back, what happens if in that time you blow up your old farm and build a massive new one based on mechanics that disappear immediately?
To be honest I think it's not worth it.
also tnt dupers are unstable in 1.17 (MC-208203)
i agree
If you made the dummy item a snow block, you don't even need to separately remove the dummy item and snow, as they could be taken together
Really hope he sees this comment and optimizes the auto crafting even further!
You still need to recycle the dummy item though. I guess you pull one from the output stream but I'm not sure that's any better.
@@zackglenn2847 this way, you can just have one output stream, that's runs over the hoppers into the dummy item dropper. This way, the dummy items are always filled, and there is only a need for one output.
Damn, that's clever
absolutely BRILLIANT
I would wait a bit to update. as-is, the most interesting features aren't available in survival and along with all the downsides makes it seem not worth it. I would wait until either you're pretty much out of farms to build in the current version or the most interesting new features (sculks, dripstone, axolotls, new caves, etc) are in survival.
I wouldn’t update to snapshots as of now since I don’t think it’s worth it yet considering all the potential trouble that could cause
Mumbo: "when am I ever going to need snow bits."
ilmango: builds a farms that makes 60,000 snow blocks per hour
You could simplify the craft by using snow blocks as the dummy item in the snow block crafting recipe: build modules for crafting 1 snow block + 4 snowballs into 2 snow blocks, then cycle half of the snow block output from the array back into the snow block input at the scale of the entire crafting system rather than within the individual modules.
Is this a vanilla feature? To be able to use droppers to auto craft items? I haven’t seen this before, just making sure
@@ianerickson2210 No, autocrafting is part of Carpet

The negatives outweigh the positives at the moment when it comes to the snapshots imo. I’d say wait until at least 1.17 pre releases to update
I’m kinda impressed with myself. This is the first illmango video I’ve ever seen where I actually think I understand the farm. (Other than the auto crafter that’s just magic.)
auto crafting is a carpet mod feature
@@zortlungac3846 still magic
@@zortlungac3846 I know where it’s from. Doesn’t make it any less magic.
The visual of all the snow block crafters working with the full system was so scifi I love it
I built this this weekend coincidentally! I built it in the end to supply a massive chorus fruit farm, which I plant 300 flowers, and with the snowballs, it breaks about twice that, probably more if I ran it a little longer. But it was a really simple way to make snowballs, the only non automatic part of the two farms is having to place the chorus fruit!

"This might be overkill"
Illmango 2020
When auto crafting, if you use the output item as the dummy item, you can make things a lot simpler. So in this case you would use snow blocks as the dummy item.
I always wonder, how project seems to be impossible, but mango just says "I'll try that" and then "So i've created super compact, fast and effective version" every time
I really enjoyed the auto crafting segment, with your different approaches and referencing old designs! Extremely nice episode!
I do not think updating is a good idea right now.
me: snow golem half way on a slab and I just dig the snow.
ilmango: giant machine that automaticly gets 60,000 snow an hour.
I think you should wait for the full release because many features aren't implemented or will change over time. Therefore things might break or won't function any more in later snapshots. And mostly world gen doesn't exist as it should.
In the end it is something you have to decide whether fast and quick server working with new features is better than a stable and complete content update.
the fact that you use doors to propagate the redstone signal makes me laugh i love it
I would recommend waiting for a stable release before you update. Unless you really completely run out of stuff to do before it releases.
The goal is not to afk at a farm. It is to stay for 5 minutes and have everything for 5 years
like the old 1.8 steak farm on the scicraft server.
I'm now caught up with the series. I suggest you wait, maybe start are new "Peaceful Challenge" when the full (or final) update is released.
Something about the autocrafting in this series really reminds me of old-school Tekkit, like 1.2.5-era Tekkit.
Hey! I really love this series, it's my favourite right now! Looking forward to a big mushroom cow passive mob farm!!
I've thought of an easier way to use the redstoned crafting table. What about using the product as the dummy item as well? If you used the snow block as the dummy item you could suck the dummy item and the product at the same time by unblocking the hopper below. I don't know if you understand what i'm trying to explain. That wouldn't work for every recipe of course, but I think it would make it easier.
Maybe this is not how the crafting table works, but i think it wouldn't have a problem working. Sorry for my english!
Thank you for your consideration.
That's actually genius!
... i think idk
That auto-crafting system was so smart, very cool to see the thinking proces. Seems to be a hard but fun grind.
Congrats on 1000 vids!
I didn’t see the snow golems at first and I was like okay composters do they now
Love this snowball farm, i use it for my chorus fruit farm to harvest flowers from above
I've been on the fence about autocrafting in minecraft but this pushed me over the edge. We need this in vanilla!
New Snow farm idea. Snow golems are pushed and a dispenser fires water for a very quick pulse , breaking the snow balls once the golems is out of range. Same flying machine can be used. Collection can be done using hopper mine carts
The answer to the question: "Should we stop here?" is always going to be "no", isn't it. ;)
As to updating to the newest snapshot, I dunno. I think it's been very stable, but the world generation isn't providing any of the new stuff except for the amethyst, and that falls a little short, I feel. I'd be very curious what you come up with for the amethyst farm, but I honestly don't expect it to be spectacular in any case (maybe I lack imagination?). And alas, once the world generation is in, I think the snapshots will become a whole lot less stable for a while. So yeah, I think I'd hold off on that for a bit longer.
The replay mod doesn't concern me much, tbh. The timelapses are pretty and all, but I've got a limited interest in those; I always much rather hear more about your design process, what iterations you go through to improve a design, why you discard certain approaches. You do some of that, which I appreciate, but more is better! When it comes to time lapses I can take them or leave them.
Given that 1.17 will involve a huge change to world generation, updating to snapshots and generating a bunch of new chunks to get copper and geodes seems like a waste when you’ll have to generate even more new chunks to get things like dripstone. Then again, maybe copper and geodes will become harder to find/farm in the full version…
I think the downsides outweigh the positives of updating to snapshots
i always like making winter-themed builds but as with any open area you have to light it up to keep mobs from spawning. which in any snowy biome melts most of the existing snow, any snow layers you place down, and any new snow that usually piles up in a snowstorm. which at least for me defeats the purpose of building in a snow biome...
if anyone is good with this i’m all ears but until then these farms are hardly useless to me. i know you can go around placing multiple snow layers and checking light levels (snow melts at 12, hostiles spawn at 7, reinforcement zombies at 9) but after several hundred blocks it feels even more absurd than my own ocd in the first place
I think it's too early to switch to snapshots. I think that you should wait until the worldgen changes are more final, at the very least.
for the snapshots, I would wait until it's basically done feature-wise (new biomes, most game-breaking bugs fixed, etc) and the server is fully ready to update (farms still work, wanted 1.16-exclusives have been completed, etc), and the mods you use would be a bonus
and when they fix MC-208203
you should do like a setup and Q&A video sometime. i know i’m not alone in wanting to know more about the guy who wows me every day with his limitless knowledge on my favorite game!
I would say you want a bit before updating until Some of the new word generation is added so you can get things like skulk sensor, etc.
I feel like over killing it isn't necessary, but it makes for really entertaining videos, the basalt farm episode is one of my favorite of this series.
If I'm not mistaken, the amethist geode rooms only exist in custom worlds, so you wouldn't necessarily have access to them in vanilla unless you started a new world. I agree that it's too early.
Update if you want to! But I'd also be fine with waiting until the official release, as long as the update to the newest version is just delayed and not scrapped
Never thought I'd hear mango say something was overkill
I love it when ilmango says it's not too much effort to build but it's always massive haha
Someone mentioned in one of the last videos that using the final crafting product as the “dummy item” would let you pull the dummy and the product without needing to switch filters.
I think delay the move to 1.17 snapshots until you guys run out of steam with the current peaceful server. That way there's a chance a new snapshot could come out before your transition, and any breaking changes would happen after you guys have finished with them.
If you just made the water stream over the crafting stages shorter, then the rarely used last module could process at least some of the excess snowballs (if the water stream ends right above it's hopper).
I feel like y’all should wait until the snapshots are closer to being finished, since there are still a bunch features that have yet to be fully implemented (stalagmites, biomes, etc)
I think waiting a little bit before updating is your best bet. Who knows what mojang will add or remove in the coming snapshots. That said i really am looking forward to al the 1.17 farms you all are gonna make in this series
I think waiting to update is preferable. All of the most exciting things about this update are either creative-only (for the moment), unimplemented, or unavailable on peaceful.
I don't understand why snow golems don't start to attack Ilmango yet, they attack monsters right?
Only monsters
I would love to see this in a snapshot but I think you should wait until more stuff is implemented
If you place 2 blocks under the water streams you can reduce particles->lag
Regarding ReplayMod: Gnembon presented using scarpet as a substitute, you can look into that.
Nothing like an Ilmango video before sleep
Wow!
I think you should wait on using a snapshot for this series.
I think you can make a easyer auto-crafting if you used the crafted item as the dummy item. If it don't work like that I understand because I have never played with auto crafting 😅 btw I love that you are making auto crafter and I hope it will come to vanilla soon
oh finally! can't wait for it!
I would not update until the generation is more or less figured out but you do you ilmango
I got flashbacks to my industrial engineering days when I heard you use the term 'cycle time'
I would love to see the peaceful series update to the latest snapshot but I’m really going to miss those amazing time lapses:(
I like watching him design stuff :)
I hope the next update will allow fully automatic ice farms
That's why I wanted the Chilliger, for the chance it would drop ice. Rip.
I had an idea for another interesting method of auto crafting in Minecraft.
An automated crafting table which would take inputs from the top and 2 sides, each corresponding to one column, the row would be dependent on the redstone input received on the back.
Would still allow item extraction in the same way with a hopper from the bottom.
This systems from left to right seems better
@@andreysilva8418 except that it requires inserting and then extracting dummy items, instead of actually, directly, controlling what’s placed where. 🤷♂️
For complex recipes you would still have to implement the hopper-locking logic, only now you have to do it three times per module instead of just once.
This would work very well for parallelizing recipes that only use one type of item per column (eg. ladders, wool blocks, snow blocks, normal rails, etc.), but the complexity explodes if you need different kinds of items within a single column. For example, encoding the recipe for a cake would be really annoying in your system, IMO.
It's definitely a trade-off. Your idea produces a system which is up to three times faster for some recipes, but requires at least three times the complexity. Mango's system is slower, but requires roughly the same amount of complexity for all recipes.
I think a more interesting change would be to separate the columns like you said, but then allow the table to be broken and placed like a shulker box, allowing more complex recipes to be implemented more easily with no change to the difficulty or speed of simpler recipes.
@@tissuepaper9962 that’s an interesting concept.
Though I was thinking using three dispensers to insert into each hopper controlled by the same signal controlling the row selection would still be easier than this.
Also means that one design could be used to produce literally anything, by feeding each dropper with its own hopper
Drop a schulker box of each item you need on the appropriate hopper or none for a blank space, turn it on and craft an entire schulker of the final product.
It would be great for smaller batches and you could always automate schulker placement too if you were really wanting to make huge batches, if you were bringing tons of stuff from a distant farm where it was already being boxed.
@@Nevir202 sorry, i think i did not understand how your proposed system worked, i thought it would still use dummy itens, but instead of goind left to right it would go top to bottom
I like the timelapses.
maybe do the tutorial in the snapshot and do the build on the replay mod when it catches up
Oh man I really like the time-lapses
sehr gut
What do you think the timeline for getting auto crafting in vanilla is?
"If you want the game to play itself, install a mod. We don't want vanilla to cross that line."
-Dinnerbone
But in my opinion it's hardly getting the game to "play itself" if you have to build a massive perimeter, which, frankly, requires more playtime and effort than most players will commit.
The Peaceful Server Autocrafting is only used for bulk crafting and nothing more. It took a massive amount of effort to design, and then build, and even then the reason wasn't to get the game to "play itself," but because automating the task was in it of itself fun.
Edit: Additionally, it was not the game "playing itself" because it all of that effort was merely to automate compacting snowballs. So when dinnerbone says they don't want the game to play itself, it cannot be a logical argument against a "scicraft-like" playstyle.
I personally want autocrafting because I love the machinery and redstone, and while it being useful is of course a large part of it, its still smaller than my love of complexity.
People don't want autocrafting just to get the game to "play itself," but because they like that playstyle of automating stuff. It's a great feeling to invest a ton of effort to build a farm, and it being worth it and making your job easier. It's a fun playstyle.
Of course, minecraft is a sandbox game where people should be able to play how they want, not get told by devs what a correct playstyle is... oh wait...
If you read all of that thanks.
@@ovencake523 I completely agree. Auto crafting won’t even be necessary for most players. What we can do with red stone today is astounding and I do not believe that the auto crafting table implemented in this series is crossing the line or overpowered.
You should definitely stay on a stable version imo. Plus wandering traders are useful in peaceful, since you get gunpowder from them
dope
i think it would be best to wait until they update world gen at the very least. When they update the caves they may change how terrain is generated, such as the height of new terrain. This could cause some major issues with the world generation of the peaceful world. The snapshots are also feeling very unfinished as of right now and since so many items are unobtainable and changing with every snapshot it doesnt really feel worth it imo to update right now.
The twist of this series is you guys playing in peaceful and auto-crafting as the wild card. You really don't need to do snapshots.
It does not seem like you should have any issue with fitting the hoppers in the original one (I get 1 spot left after laying out the hoppers and dropper powering noteblocks), but maybe the process of filling them would make it enough of a non elegant solution that the tileable slow solution is simply better???
Maybe update in a month or so but there are still a lot of things that would be great to watch you do
The current snapshots do not add enough features just yet to justify updating. Maybe when more things are added to survival. Also, not having replay is a bit annoying but not the end of the world.
Can you implement a way to just turn off certain squares in the crafting table? I feel like it'd make a lot of this simpler
In terms of updating to the snapshot I wouldn’t...at the moment there don’t seem enough features to play around with worth the lack of mods and potential issues
With future changes in world generation, wouldn't it be a bit wierd, having old 1.16 terrain next to new 1.7 chunks ?
Ah yes, those snow golems clearly aren’t suffocating, they’re only stuck in honey
Someone try to convince me that he really needed this.
Snowball fights and snow fortresses for Christmas

True
one other downside is that copper is a real pain to gat ahold of. In normal world generation copper ore just doesn't spawn that often. With that and not having access to some of the more cooler features of 1.17 I say just keep it like it is. When the other features come on line then I would reconsider.
Against updating. I love the time lapses, the replay mod is a must
I am impressed by what you do is epic
can you make a tutorial for these crafting systems/a tutorial for crafting system basics? i use the same carpet auto crafting in my survival world and would love to learn how to automate many of these more difficult recipes
congrats on 666k subs!
Ilmango has the best time lapse music
Auto crafting would be a cool vanilla feature. Separate crafting table for it though cause wood tables would be op. We can already do it with bot accounts and scripts so I dont see why not.
I think it's still too early to play on snapshots, maybe in a month when the features are more concrete you could update.
I really want to see the new farms you guys could build but I really like to see the time lapses so I'm not sure if you should yet
MC-208203 would hurt them a lot
