I searched a while for a thumb pick I could use right out of the package without shaping or sanding and gave a good sound. I discovered Ultex L last year and loved it. It's the best I've tried and now I'm done looking.
i did definitely enjoy. i dont know why yt algo put you in my feed ma dude but im glad it did. you are super talented and its relaxing just to hear you talk. watching the rest of your uploads now.
I used to use Blue Chip thumb picks (for as long as the have been out) and thought that was the ultimate pick for me. I never even thought of switching until i met Eli Gilbert back in October of 2023. He gave me a Dunkop Ultex pick that he uses which is the same one that you use. It has a pop to the tone that have been searching for and just cut down on some slight harsh tone i was getting on the 5th string. I love this Dunlop Ultex pick and all 4 of my Blue Chips now rest in the case. The only issue i have with the Dunlop is that it's a little tight so my thumb needs a break after wearing it for an hour or so.
Thanks for the comparison. I have just discovered that on the propick thumbpick you can bend it so the blade comes forward or even with the front edge of the band if you like. I don't know how easy the blue chip bands are to bend.
In general internet rabbit hole fashion around midnight I had to order the ultex immediately after seeing this. Awesome recommendation! They are great, one of the best I’ve tried. Hope Jim Dunlop is giving you a cut 😅
I’ve been flip-flopping between the clown barf L and ultex L. GG a little too large, feels loose, the Ultex too small and cuts off circulation 😂 both great picks! Thanks for sharing!
I've been using BlueChip thumb picks (the original version - large) and love 'em. I just recently got my hands on an Ultex and, man, that is one supercharged thumb pick! The only problem is, the Ultex overpowers the two fingerpicks (i.e., in my case, Showcase 41 brand) which leads to an unbalanced output of sound. Bummer! I even tried several different brands of fingerpicks, up to and including the ProPik "sharpies" with feature a pointed blade tip that increases treble response. In all cases, however, the Ultex is much livelier and overpowering than its companion fingerpicks, which saddens me because I REALLY want to use that thumb pick. Any ideas, Gabe?...
Great vid, thanx for the effort.

Hi Gabe, great videos, exceptional playing, I like the Kel Kroyden picks.

That is fine praying.
When is the GH banjo record coming out?
I gotta figure out which thumb pick is best first!
You're killing me, man.
