ZWIFT - A beginner cyclist's review

  • Warning: this virtual cycling game is extremely addicting...you've been warned. I've never trained as a cyclist before and I wanted to see how much I could improve after a month using Zwift using their FTP builder training plan. My watt/kg FTP increased by 15% in just 28 days!
    Even though not required to run the game, I found having these extra sensors to be helpful for keeping pace in workouts:
    *Garmin Cadence Sensor: amzn.to/2YICiN3
    *CooSpo Heart Rate Monitor: amzn.to/3ebilVT
    *Disclosure: As an amazon affiliate I earn a commission on qualified sales

    Great video and great info! Been an active cyclist for 15 years, but doing it only for fun. Love biketouring and bikepacking. About month ago i had a bad crash with my bike and fractured my skull and what not. Having difficulties with my balance so i havent beennable to ride my bike. Bought the same trainer and subscribed to swift to be able to continue to do what i love, even its not the same thing. Thanks for the great tips about the ftp test. Fonne try that out when im in bit better condition. Good luck with your adventures!

      Yes, riding indoors will never be the same as outdoors; I do like Zwift because there are a lot of routes to explore at first. Hopefully they will keep new routes coming.

    I’ve tried cycling on busy roads and I just can’t do it. In the UK so many drivers are too reckless and hate cyclists. I’ve bought a Zwift so i can get the hours in and improve my cardio. Excited for it to come now!

    I ordered my Wahoo Kickr last week. Unfortunately not in stock right now and probably not for a few weeks. Very frustrating since I really wanna try Zwift (and the weather forecast isn’t really encouraging to go outdoors). I feel like a little kid again a few months before Christmas. 😉

      Hey there! I just stumbled upon a new project called Freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike and it's worth checking out. This eBike offers an outstanding feature of being able to charge it indoors. How cool is that? Plus, with its brushless 750W motor, 80Nm torque, and top speed of 20mph, it's perfect for conquering mountain rides. I'm currently enjoying the riding experience of the Freebeat Morph eBike and trust me, it's a game-changer. The 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires provide a smooth ride on any terrain, and you'll love the Smart Saddle Detection+ feature for achieving your fitness goals. Happy riding!

    Hey I have my new kickr set up but currently waiting on slick tyres. I have a question, I have my macbook pro linked to my zwift with the bike pairing up with my macbook pro bluetooth i was advised this wasnt always guaranteed to stay connected and therefore should in an bluetooth dongle, have you you any advice on this and if I should invest in a bluetooth adaptor, which is the best ?? Thanks

    • @socalgravel
      @socalgravel  3 года назад

      I haven't personally tried a blue tooth adapter but its something im concidering. Ive connected to Zwift using 3 different laptops (no macbooks) with varying results. My current setup is a lenovo yoga and i havent had any issues with the built in bluetooth. Prior setup was a cheaper lenovo and I never could get my HR monitor to connect and it was slow to connect to other devices. Another prior setup was a different Lenovo yoga at it worked 90% of the time, the 10% was most likely user error. Personally unless you are planning on jumping right in to some racing I would wait to see if you experience connectivity issues. You'll know within a few rides.

    I got hit by a car commuting on my bike. My commute is only 4 miles. I broke my clavicle and it required surgery. That’s thousands in medical bills. I also put on some pounds because I wasn’t getting much exercise while recovering. I’m getting a zwift to help lose those pounds, as it’s much safer than riding outside, and the doctor also said I shouldn’t run outside to prevent the metal from snapping in my shoulder. $600 seems worth it compared to the medical bills

    I would like to use zwift but it's too expensive for the amount of times I plan on using it. I can ride all year around, only times when I want to be on the trainer is if it's wet or too windy, which may only be a total of a month of a year.

      for me it is time saving convenience to stay fit. i can only dedicate so much time per day. so literally takes two minutes to prep to get on the trainer with zwift loaded, do a prescribed length and ride hard to keep heart rate up. hop off without shivering, immediately hit the shower, and then move on to the next thing i need to do.

    Hi please the cardio meter stopped working suddenly on Zwift .Zwift reports the belt is connected without signal in the meanwhile I read heart frequency on the cyclo computer. How can I solve it? Thank you

    • @socalgravel
      @socalgravel  3 года назад

      That's a difficult problem to work not being there myself the troubleshoot it. Was the HR monitor ever working properly with you zwift setup? First thing to try is connecting the sensors using your phone's bluetooth via the zwift companion app...assuming you are using a laptop to play zwift. You can do this from the pairing screen in Zwift. If that works you might concider buying an external bluetooth (or ANT+) adapter for your computer. Best of luck!

    • @socalgravel
      @socalgravel  3 года назад

      Have you tried restarting your phone? Have you tried un pairing the HR monitor from your other devices? I havent experienced the specific problem you are having but ive had some weird data coming from my cadence senor (ie reading 20rpm when im spinning over 100rpm) into my old laptop setup. My only solution in the end was to invest into buying a decent laptop. Unfortunately im an andriod guy so i dont have any experience with bluetooth on the iPhone. Best chance might be to email Zwift tech support.

    What a game changer in terms of road feel and I've never ridden this much in my life thanks to Zwift. I chased route badges for months and months and it looks like they add a dozen a year or so.
