Hey Mark, I haven't mentioned before, but, I worked on the business side of a couple of sports leagues. My last gig was as the Director of Sales for the LA Xtreme of the original XFL. My boss was J.K. McKay. JK and I became really close, and still are. I've shown JK your channel, and he's appreciative. It's fun to see him pop up from time to time in your vids.
That's awesome! Great to hear! Yeah, J.K. popped up in a recent video of mine when Morris Owens gave him the football to spike. I said something to the effect of "Look who ended up spiking the ball - the coach's kid". That was my "Bloopers" video. Thanks for letting me know of your experiences and contacts/friends - I dig it!
I had to chuckle at Nick Buonticonti's reaction when he dropped the apparent interception from Richard Todd!1976 was a bad year for Miami (6-8) the first losing season Don Shula had ! He only had one other losing season 6-10 in 1988! Absolutely insane to only have 2 losing seasons in 33 years of coaching!
To take over a 3 win, 10 loss, and 1 tie team from 1969 and turn them into a 10 win & 4 loss playoff team in 1970 has got to be one of the most magnificent jobs in NFL head coaching history.
Great memories, these plays live on and on. I never saw John Gilliam with the Falcons. Blew my mind. Poor Lou Holtz with the Jets. I remember him sending Namath in the game to try and run for a 2 point conversion but Joe told him that was only allowed in college ball and Joe had to tell he couldn’t run anymore anyway. Funny stuff. My man Dexter Bussey showed up for the wrong reason. Thunderfoot Weaver too.
That's totally hilarious about Holtz! I gotta remember that story. By the way, Dexter Bussey was a terrific RB who battled hard for ever inch - gotta admire that. Thanks, Evan!
@@stevenzimmerman4057 Yes he later admitted that prior to accepting the Jets job, that had never actually watched an NFL game before. Lou said he had rejected the job initially, but they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. I remember he even kicked around the idea of installing the Veer offense until he was mercifully talked of it.
Good memories. That Nobis hit was insane. Run away truck. Billy White Shoes Johnson - best endzone dance ever. We had Crazy George in Denver, he is certifiable gonzo nuts. Thanks brother, appreciated.
Not too much of a running game for The Purple during those years, but the air was filled with a lot of footballs thrown by 2 Minute Tommy Kramer which was very exciting.
When I think of bloopers, I think of a VHS I had featuring Jonathon Winters promoting the "Football Channel". Winters and NFL Bloopers was pretty hilarious.
Great video again! I was born 20 years after this season, ice in Cleveland, absolutely! Great looking girl at the end( both ends !) She is in her 60s , today! Thank you sir,as always! Stupendous job! Joey in Cleveland
14:14 Two interesting facts about the 1976 Buccaneers: 1. They had a winless record of 0-14; 2. They played that season in the AFC. Seattle was in the NFC, and, in 1977 the two teams switched conferences.
The NFL was much better back then-the uniforms (some guys still wore black shoes then!), the toned-down end zone celebrations-you could count on the 1:00 Sunday game as Dallas vs somebody nearly every week in my area. It all just worked better and more naturally back then.
Great play on the double reverse pass to Larry Brunson and a heads up if unconventional play by Wayne Morris to lateral to Jim Hart to avoid the safety!
Another great video Mark. 👍🏾 I enjoy seeing the differences in stadiums. Have you thought about attempting to make a video showing the unique characteristics of the stadiums? As a Viking fan I will never forget MacArthur Lane running down the sideline into the end zone and tripping and crashing into the fence at the old Metropolitan Stadium! But his touchdown sealed a 19-7 Packers upset...

After baseball season ended, most of the grounds keepers at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore must have taken the rest of the year off because the field was usually badly painted dirt after October.
That's a fact. Colts Hall of Famer Art Donovan wrote in his autobiography that a circus was on the Memorial Stadium playing field on a Saturday right before a Sunday Colts game sometime in the 1950's. He said that elephant droppings were scattered and defensive linemen used to wait until the offensive linemen were set, then they'd throw the dung into their facemasks, thereby drawing them offsides and commiting a 5 yard false start penalty.
Ray Mansfield kicking the extra point vs Baltimore reminded me of Deacon Jones who in his final regular season game with Washington in 1974 tried a extra point vs Chicago and he banked it in off the upright! The Skins destroyed the Bears 42-0 as a aside in the Pittsburgh blowout of the Colts a small plane crashed into the stands just a few minutes after it ended... the blowout might have been fortunate in a way, because the stands were virtually empty and as it turns out no fatalities including the pilot of the plane!
