    These big north/south fullbacks would physically wear down a defense - like the Dolphins with 11 straight runs culminating in the end zone. You don’t see that too often anymore, with the pass so dominant now. I remember when some teams would kill you with ball control on the ground. Washington, Miami, Buffalo in the 70’s come to mind.

    Jack Lambert was a scary, scary man. He was right to go after that Bengal(?) who cheapshotted the Steeler QB (Kruczek?) out of bounds. Other Steelers should have let Lambert go. Liked! Subscribed and saved for future viewing.

    Jack Tatum should have been permanently banned from the NFL for the cheap shot on Daryl Stingley in a meaningless preseason game that left him paralyzed for the rest of his life.. it was as dirty as it gets but nothing about the Raiders wasn't dirty. It was great to see Steve Grogan and Vataha again. Where have all the years gone... WOW.

    The NFL is staring at a 18 game schedule soon and I came up with this rule addition that would help keep the idea of a 1,000 yd season more relevant while, also, and more importantly, being implemented for player safety: NO PLAYER can start more than 16 games and/or play a total of 64 quarters (OT not included). I imagine this will never happen, but it really is reasonable. It will give teams pause to rush a player back from injury (not permitted to play 18 games, anyway, and players tend to sit late in the year when already made playoffs, et cetera ... )

    You forgot the MNF game against Pittsburgh last game of the season. Dan Fouts was a mediocre QB definitely not headed for Canton Ohio when as noted Don Coryell took over for Tom Prothro game 5 And that hire turned Fouts career around. Fouts career Winning percentage was well below .500 pre-Coryell. Fouts was a tremendous regular season QB with a career playoff record of 3-4. In 1979 The Chargers destroyed both the Steelers and Rams in the regular season and choked at home against the Oilers. Fouts threw 6 interceptions. Houston was playing without Earl Campbell,Dan Pastorini,Ken Burrough. Chargers were beaten by Gifford Nielsen. Didn’t Fouts have 3 interceptions against Oakland 1980?? 1981 playoffs Epic win against Miami on the road then the debacle in the “Ice Bowl”. Fouts throws another 3 or was it 4 interceptions. 1982 Great win against Pittsburgh on the road. Then a meltdown against Miami another several interceptions for Fouts. His apologists would say “The Chargers defense was terrible”. Fair enough, but the front 4 were awesome with 3 Pro Bowlers Louie Kelcher,Fred Dean, Gary Johnson,Leroy Jones,and Wilbur young and Charles Dejurnett in reserve. When Gene Klein sold or traded Fred Dean to the 49 Ers in 1981 that killed the defense. Note who won the Super Bowl that year over the Bengals. The 49 Ers. It’s amazing g what drafting Mike Singletaryor Ricky Jackson in 1981 would have meant to the Chargers Franchise instead of James Fumbleitis Brooks. Who did have a great career but with the Bengals.

      @ No problem at all. I was just thinking out loud. I was at that MNF game December of 1980. If the Chargers lose Oakland Raiders win the division. What might have been if Brian Sipe doesn’t throw an I’ll advised pass. If Cockroft could have actually made a kick that day. Chargers go to Cleveland probably would have coughed it up against the Browns in the snow. I guess when it comes to the Chargers 1979-82 a fan can play what if forever. I think it was Rocky Bleiers last game for Pittsburgh that MNF game. Excellent footage as always!!!! Jerry Levias I definitely remember. Coming over from Houston. Jim Thaxton now that’s a name I don’t remember.

    Love the Eagles, and was a Dolphin fan as a kid..............much love for Leroy Harris! One of the best blocking backs ever played for the late 1970s-early 1980s Lions...............a guy by the name of Horace King. He didn't get too many touches, though, he wasn't a great runner (but was a pretty decent receiver). But man, could he throw a block. I remember on 'NFL Today' or one of those old pre-game shows someone asked Billy Sims who Detroit's best lineman was, and he said "Horace King".

    Dan put up Dan-like numbers that year. Dan Marino that is. Fouts has a lot of similar traits to Marino. Quick release, can wait until the last second to give time to receivers, and both are determined and aggressive leaders. And both are HOF'rs with both having never won a Super Bowl. Fouts never even got to play in one. Still, a damn talented guy who, along with his coach, knew how to use the opportunities of the great players around him.

    • @markgardner9460
      @markgardner9460 3 дня назад

      That’s true, the Cardiac Kids as they were called (Browns) that year. Overall, the 1980 season was very exciting and competitive, especially in the AFC. Still remember heading into the last game of the season, the Chargers hosted the Steelers on Monday night. I still remember Howard Cossell saying that SD can clinch the top seed and home field advantage with a win, or be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss. In the end, all five AFC playoff participants finished the season 11-5, with the Chargers edging Oakland for the AFC West title and the Browns clinching the Central over the Oilers. Also, during the division round, Chargers beat the Bills with a late TD and the Raiders intercepted a late 4th quarter Sipe pass in the infamous Red Slot Right, Halfback Stay, 88 play that propelled the Raiders to the Championship game and face SD for a third time. Really fond memories for me as a 10 year old kid watching the Chargers

      The intention was NFL championship game. Sorry for not tidying up my communications. In my "Jersey Talk" episode at the end of the video I speak of the AFC Championship Game and I provided his statistics, so I was aware that he had played in a conference championship game.

      I intended to, but neglected, to include "NFL" before the words "Championship Game". At the end of the video, I mentioned that he played in the AFC Championship Game, so I obviously knew that he had played in an AFC Championship Game.
