Hey Viv... this is Tamara (Hobo Maras Patterns/tamaraworld). Thanks for the shoutout. Love your channel
I love your store!! I had some folks not able to find you with “tamaraworld” in the seller search - is that the correct name? Thanks for writing!
Should be able to find it under Hobo Maras Patterns & More. I was so excited that you like the store. Happy Sewing 🧵
@@tamaramccoy8368 I’m going to pin your comment. Happy to send some traffic your way!😃
Yay me! Today’s a good day.
Tamara, I've been searching for a couple of hours trying to find your store! Help!!
I use to have such an enormous amount of patterns , it was embarrassing. Many years ago I worked at Joann. When there was a pattern discard we would put them in a trash bag and take them out to the back. When our shift was over we’d dumpster dive. You weren’t allowed to dig in the store . Once trash it’s ok. On dark nights, me and a sewing friend/ coworker would sit with a flash light and dig . Ahh the old days at the Mall.
!
That would be so much fun!!! I hope the dumpster wasn’t too gross😂
Sounds like so much exciting fun! Especially with a friend! 😁
@@vivmomsews4962 in your 20’s dumpster scruples are non existent...LOL
We did this at Cloth World too:)
Oh, Debra how awesome your collection must be!!! Super Cool!
Love, love, love seeing all these patterns! The dress with an inverted center front pleat took me back in time immediately. My aunt made a beautiful piece to wear when expecting her third baby! I was fifteen then and remember how pretty she looked dressed for church💖
We called that style a tent
dress😉. Thanks so much for the sweet memory!
Loved being with you -Susan ♥️
Hi Viv. I too love to collect patterns and fabric. You are right when you say that we can't get to a point that we regret buying up for our sewing stash. I haven't yet. I have enough to keep me going for a while. But I still like to look at the patterns and fabrics from time to time even if I don't buy anything. It truly is an addiction. No doubt. But a wonderful fulfilling pastime and labour of love. Love your channel. You are wonderful. Xo.
Hi vivmom buying patterns and fabric feeds your hobby if you don't have a hobby life would be DULL my husband says if it makes you happy then that's good Love the patterns, LOVE all your videos and look forward to the next one Dawn from England. 👕👖👗😊
Butterick 4485 looks exactly like what I would have worn in high school in about 1966. That tent style and the white collar were popular then. 😍
LOL- who ever heard of “ to many patterns “- you are sooo silly!.
😂😂😂
Viv, Patterns are like potato chips, you can't have just one!!! I have pattern that my Grandma used to make me a winter coat and leggings back in the 40's and many that I used in 4-H. I did a lot of sewing for my girls. Such fun memories!!!
Butterick 4485 was once a wedding dress for me. I made it from a VERY heavy, VERY rich damask which frayed miserably. I ended up using seam binding to enclose all the seams. It was a very classy work-of-art. I have fond memories of the dress and nightmares about the marriage, LOL.
I have tons of patterns, been buying them for many years and some were my moms, I am 64. Oh and I love buying fabric and have tubs full. Oh am a I craft hoarder, 😂
I love patterns and buying fabric, but I have not done so in years. Why? I loathe sewing, LOL!
@@trixier6505 😂😂😂
@@trixier6505 You made me laugh, Trixie!!
You’re sitting on a goldmine, karen! Maybe a foray into pattern selling on eBay or Etsy??😃
A woman after my own heart. I am 66 and I have patterns that were my grandmother’s and tubs and tubs of fabric.
If I only had the patterns from 60's when I started; what a collection I would have.
Vivmom you have a lot of fabric, but you sew for like 10 people, I sew but I don't have any fabric because I have to buy it and then make it and if I buy something cute fabric it will be wrong for what I want to make. Also it's more fun for me to sew it right away. Thank you for your sweet smile and sharing your love of sewing.
Hey Viv!
This is Cilou from Marseille, France.
My sister told me once that sewing and buying fabrics are two separate hobbies.
I couldn't agree more.
As long as you enjoy it, as it doesn't prevent you from having the means to take good care of your family and doesn't make you feel ashamed or overwhelmed, no need to beat yourself up.
I just watch out so that I don't have to buy a new house in order to put my fabric stash in 😂
I know how you feel about your fabric. I love all the beautiful colors and textures, and just being around them makes me happy!
Fun video! I never tire of seeing pattern or fabric hauls! I to, spend a disproportionate amount of time looking at patterns to buy, or looking through my pattern stash, or my fabric stash. I keep thinking I’ll get my patterns organized one of these days because it has gotten to the point that when I want to look for a pattern to sew, I go look on Etsy to decide what I want to sew then go locate the pattern in my stash- which can take a couple hours sometimes😀. If my collection continues to grow, I’ll need a dedicated “ library” room with sliding ladder and all. ❤️Kirsten
Thanks for the lovely pattern haul. I particularly like the last one, Butterick 4812, which I loved at the time and had forgotten about. Thanks for jogging my memory. The search begins........😄
My pleasure, Trish. I hope you find that Butterick - check eBay often. They really do pop up from time to time!🤞
Morning Viv, great pattern update. Butterick 4485 excellent, love view c. Happy Summer!! 🌱🌳🌼🌺
I just love your enthusiasm with fabrics and patterns..... I am Just! the same! You have a great sense of colors and style!
Love watching your pattern hauls. I think in your report on buying fabric and patterns, write not only does it bring you joy, but your subscribers as well! I have been cutting patterns out for clothes I want to make. Getting ready for a sewing soon!💗
If it makes you happy then there should be no regret. We need more happiness in our lives especially now. Buy your fabrics, its a sensory thing. I love to touch fabric as I love the feel of different fabrics - it makes me happy! Be happy Viv because when you are happy we are happy. Thank you
You are not alone about buying fabric. I keep telling my husband that I won't buy anymore but then I get that email from Fabric mart and I just can't resist. Lol🥰
Loved! Loved! Loved your pattern review!! It was so much fun to see all the patterns because of all the different styles and fashion. The reason I love it is because it gives me tons of fashion options. It's an empowerment for me and my body type( freedom to express myself and love what I wear) When I love what I wear that is everlasting through my day! And it all starts in my sewing room a very happy place for me. Thank you again. I have lots of patterns too and there is nothing wrong with that but a lot of SPARKs!!! JOYs!!! in collecting patterns and making them. Patterns collecting is like collecting books to me but instead of books, I'm collecting fashion patterns. Super AWESOME! But you are an excellent Host because 1st of all you Gorgeous and 2nd of all you have the sewing intellect along with experience!! Oh Yeah, your PURE AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!! Everyone has that one thing they collect and this is mine. I hope one day you have a podcast all about sewing to hear all about your sewing experiences and hear about your sewing world.
Remember when we bought a pattern. Then looked on the back and bought the yardage and supplies we needed for that pattern? Now we use up our stash. 😳
Oh boy did you really hit the nail on the head. I bought over $50,000 in quilting fabrics, tools and machines in 18 years that it buried me. Owned me. Quilting became something I didn’t even want to do anymore bc of the guilt from the excessive spending. Not a good thing! I’m still working through all that but yes I do hope you will do a video on over buying and the joy of restraint lol.
Oh, Quilterbee, I hate to hear that you were suffering with guilt. I totally understand how a hobby can fly away with itself almost. I feel like I have a handle on things but I need to start being very prudent with anymore purchases. My dad loved model trains and collected scads of them, stacked neatly in their boxes for the day he would set up an entire train city ... but that day never came. I think that if you’re able to use some of what you’ve bought, you are absolved of any guilt!💕
You are such a joy to listen to. I just found you about a month ago and have been binge watching your videos since your very first one. You sure have come a long way and really fill a need. I am in my late 50s and have started sewing, or wanting to sew, in the past year. I started by taking classes on making my own slopers and custom fit patterns but got nowhere with that. Because of you I have changed my approach to looking at patterns and trying to make them fit me. Thank you for doing these posts, I am certain they are a lot of work for you. You are an inspiration.
Hi Kelly! What great news to hear that you’ve taken up sewing. It can be a bit of a winding journey but perseverance pays off. I had a better time of it when I started looking at (or simply measuring myself on the pattern tissue) the finished garment measurements. Once I know that the garment will go around my bust or hips, I’m in. Finished garment measurements include ease, so I don’t add anything to them. Anyway, I’m glad you’re here! Thanks for writing.
I love love love Butterick 4812! I looked for it last night on ebay and there were several available, as of now, there is only 1 available after my purchase of another pattern that I do not need. I have actually been purging patterns of mine and my sisters from 1970's to 1990's (over 100 patterns) because they are small sizes and I am not inclined to resize old patterns. I love to shuffle through all my patterns...the feel, the smell, the pictures/drawings...they bring me so much joy.
Stop while you're ahead?? Silly girl!! I just love all you give us in information and inspiration.
The outfit you are wearing is gorgeous! No regrets - patterns and fabric are like chocolate and strawberries; you can never have too many and they always bring a smile!
Aww thanks Robin! I adore this easy dress pattern (Vogue 9022) because it looks pulled together, even when I’m not.
I love, love, love my fabric! I love having it neatly folded and stacked on my tall bookcase shelves. To me my wall of fabric is like an art mural. It gives me so much joy to look at it and rearrange it when I'm planning out possibilities. Looking at patterns and examining their details is likewise a total joy. It's so wonderful to have the online sewing community to share this obsession with! 😁😳💜 As always, I love your cheerful, enthusiastic, and insightful video!
Love them. It’s great to see you happy.
I love a good pattern…and the “oldies” call to me :)
Viv, like so many of us seamstresses we can not have too many patterns or fabric and we just need to purchase more when we see something we like. I love the fabric you are wearing and you looked gorgeous in it. Your favorite Butterick pattern was totally awesome and the price was only $.65 so we know it is back from the 60's. I can't wait until you sew it up and model it for us. Take care and have a safe Memorial weekend and enjoy your family outing.
Great video. I love your pattern hauls. The fabric of the dress you're wearing is so pretty. Ooooh that last pattern.....Butterick 4812.....is so cool. I like that one!
You trigger my eBay, pattern, and fabric buying issues. 😂
I loved Style patterns. They were my favourites
Hi Viv, On the advent of my 58th birthday, today. I am at peace with my ridiculous fabric stash and huge pattern collection. I retired to Jamaica almost two years ago to care for elderly parents. I am an early retiree and have waited all my life to sew without interruption. Well, the interruption part is not working out, but I have a lot of time to pursue my craft. I love it. How often does a person get to create at will. We are able to be creative and end up with a tangible piece of clothing at the end. Someone always shows up in need of my clothes or my quilts. "Sew it and they will come." It makes me happy with no shame. Kudos to you Viv for unabashedly doing what you love. I have some vintage patterns you might want to have (for free). Let me know.
I love your post, Anmaree! This is living life on your own terms, and I’m all for it!👏👏How do you like Jamaica? I can imagine it’s beautiful and tropical. I lament the interruptions to my sewing time, some of my own making and some are out of my control, but I mainly focus on the wealth of TIME I do have to sew, and what a gift. I so appreciate you offering me vintage patterns but I must pass - the window needs to close on my pattern acquiring, as much as I adore all patterns!! Especially vintage!! Sew on, friend! Thanks for writing!💕
You got some great patterns in your haul. Thanks for giving us pattern numbers in the description.
I really like the top you are wearing in this video. The print is gorgeous.
Tip for princess seams
1. The bustier you are, the more you should look for princess seams that go up to the shoulder seam as opposed to the armhole, it makes the curve more manageable
2. Reducing the seam allowance to 1cm/ 3/8" eliminates a lot of wrinkles

The vintage 60's dress reminds me of Laura Petrie when she was expecting....The Dick Van Dyke Show
Yes!! Totally Laura Petrie! And perfect maternity dress. It never fails that I find a pattern I love and when I look closer it says “maternity.” Gosh I loved being pregnant.😃
My daughters tell me its okay to by patterns and fabric, unlike tobacco and alcohol someone else will enjoy them when I'm gone so these are my vices no regrets
Viv, I believe you are providing a public service: reviewing fabric and patterns. I appreciate all your comments, experience and expertise. IMHO. Just saying, for what it is worth. I think I am not alone in this.😆😎🤗😍💖👏👏👏
Well my dear, you are very kind and generous. And I will happily continue making these public service announcements as long as anyone would like to watch them!💕
I love your excitement over fabric and patterns. It makes me happy too!
I'd love to see your pattern collection, fabric stash and your me made closet. Please consider sharing this with us😁
Thanks Hoppa. I should do an updated reveal of my current fabric supply because it is ferocious. It has burst out of every tower and cabinet I have. Frankly, I need some better storage. Just waiting for an opportune moment to talk it over with Brad.😃
l don't have vintage patterns.but I started be interested!!Lovely dress!These patterns remember me my mother's dresses
If only I'd known - I have Butterick 4812! I haven't made it but gladly would have sent it to you. I'm on the verge of buying some of Fabric Mart's beautiful linen chambray and I think it would be gorgeous in that pattern. My favorite of the bunch here is Butterick 4385, love that wrapped back. I need to research a backless bra too - too many dresses now that need one. Also I'm on the hunt for Simplicity 9046 from 1979 in case you run across it. It's a plaid sundress with a ruffled neckline. I have the 10 but need a bigger size - it's one I made back circa 1980 in a ditzy print and I'd love to do that again. Who knew? Take care as always - xox
Butterrick 4485 reminds me of something you would see Audrey Hepburn wear, in brocade. It would look so cute on you. Back in the 1960's I had a dress like the 4th one and it was called a "tent dress". Such a flattering name, in cicadelic material with an empire waist. I was a teenager and so styling in that dress lol.
I love it, Sheryl, I can just picture your dress! Thanks for writing!😃
I had one my mother made for me in about ‘67.I remember wearing it for school my senior year and outside for marching band it really whipped around me, lol.
Well we head back to Virginia next Tuesday. Past week has been quiet as my son, grandchildren, and my hubby all got sick with respiratory infections. Thank goodness everyone seems to be a lot better. I spent lot of time sewing. I’ve ordered a couple of pieces of fabric to hopefully be able to sew some tops when I get back to Virginia. Hopefully I will be able to get them done before I am sidelined for quite sometime. Because in July I am having surgery for a total right knee replacement. Not looking forward to that but it is what it is. Hopefully it won’t be too long that I can comfortably sit at my sewing table. Until then I just be enjoying watching and learning from the sewing videos and be ready to go full steam sewing when I can.
Love the dress you’re wearing the print is great
thank God you said that about buying fabrics. I started to think I was bipolar . One day, no, no, no. No more fabrics, and then, there I go with an urge to buy more.
I get it, Mery. And I never seem to learn about NOT announcing that “I won’t be buying fabric anymore.” I always have to eat those words, so I won’t say them anymore! They don’t taste good.😂

I feel just like you do about patterns. I could sit at a fabric store and spend hours looking through the pattern books and imagining what fabrics and colors to use. I have lots of fabric and patterns. But I am that way about cookbooks too! I can sit and read through cookbooks like novels.

Hi lovely to see you
I absolutely love that first pattern and the last one
I know what you mean about buying fabric I've stopped buying now for about 2 years and I've definitely not been as motivated to sew even though I do still sew some items
As you say we've not been going out
Here in the UK we seem to have been in lockdown for ever
I hate it when your vidios end
Take care and enjoy your family events xx💙💚💛💜
Perhaps you could make some of the videos here topical by sewing through your stash and choosing a particular type of fabric like linen. Or a particular color or a particular print. That could be a monthly sewing event. It would be fun to see what you make out of the different kinds of fabric and different kinds of prints.
Style patterns were always my favorites - from about the mid-eighties, until sometime in the early nineties when they disappeared (I believe they were absorbed into Simplicity). Their illustrations were the best, and their designs always seemed a step ahead of many of the other pattern companies. Still a favorite when I can find them online.
This is great to hear, Cynthia. They also kind of remind me of New Look. Wonder if they were ever connected at some point.
I like that Butterick wardrobe that looks like linen clothing. I feel the same way about fabric and patterns. I love shopping for all of it. It is part of the creative process.
Don’t ever stop making your videos……I just think you’re fabulous 🌸
What a sweetheart you are, Barb! You just made my week!😄
Love your patterns❤
Hi Viv. I love that last pattern and have made that dress with drawstring 2x. Make sure you accommodate long waist so the tie sits correctly when you cut out. I tried other women's besides linen. Also I have considered my fabric stash too--over and over. Just recently with my 3 orders from Fabric mart and another fabric store, I need to justify it to be more than I love it. Maybe the way you were raised, need vs. Want, paying attention to the budget/practicality. So you are not alone. Thanks Viv!!!
Wovens stupid spellcheck
No regrets. Do what makes you happy. All great choices. Love the vintage 60's pattern.
What a great haul! I ventured down the ebay rabbit hole searching for patterns. The seller I found (in Canada) had many I wanted. Made my inquiry and waited. The guy was soooo disorganized. Didn’t have this or that, couldn’t find others. Made a comment that he didn’t realize he had so many patterns🙄 Said he’d keep looking. I’ve given up waiting. 😕 I’ll check out the sellers you’ve listed. Many thanks for that info Viv!
I love fabric. It makes me feel so good to see it, feel it, dream about what I'm going to make with it. Just love it.

Great patterns! I hear you about the fabrics! I'm trying not to buy anymore atm and sew up at least one length every two months that has been languishing in my stash since....forever. Have a fab holiday weekend! Xx
You always have so much joy in showing off your patterns!
From my mom - “Vivmom, found you during lockdown and love following your pattern and fabric hauls. Your enthusiasm and love of sewing inspired me to get back into garment sewing for myself. It has been a long time since I've sewn something for myself. I bought a bunch of patterns on sale at Joann and chose some fabric for one of them. Boy was I surprised when I went to cut the pattern out to find that the pattern was to be bias cut! No where on the pattern envelope was that mentioned, so now the fabric I chose will not work. I think patterns used to have much better descriptions on the envelopes. Are we supposed to open the pattern and read the directions before purchasing? I called Simplicity's help number about this, and they said they never put bias cut on their pattern descriptions. Oh well, I will find another use for the fabric. Keep on sewing, love seeing your makes!”
Thank you, Phil’s mom!! I’m sorry you ran into a problem with the bias cutting vs the fabric you chose. Gee, an apology would be nice from the Simplicity Maven, but from my experience with her she isn’t into apologies!😂 I’m so happy to hear that you’re sewing again and I wish you all the best!
@@vivmomsews4962 “I know one of these days you are going to show something vintage I actually made. I guess that makes me vintage too! We used to get some great deals on fabric and notions at a store called Minnesota Fabrics. Also spent a lot of time and money at a Joann store that was near where I worked. Lots of happy sewing memories! I especially enjoyed your post on the history of sewing patterns. Have a wonderful Holiday!”
I haven't looked on eBay for patterns! I am going to have to search them out. I have given notice to my part time job that I am done. I am coming home to sew and continue with my baking business. I am going to sell some of my sewing too. I can't resist vintage sheets and beautiful fabrics I find at thrift stores. I have collected quite a bit now and can't wait to begin sewing more. I think it is am okay addiction as long as you are sleeping and eating and not spending to much so you can't pay your bill. 😀
Congratulations on your new plan, Melinda! I wish you all the best. Mmmm, baking business sounds delightful. Lots of hard work, I’m sure. Success, here you come!👏👏

Oh, the patterns and fabric? Cheap price for the mental health it brings!
When I created my new sewing room I was able to wrap my fabrics on bolts and get them in there, everywhere, plus more. My patterns were more manageable but still took a good amount of space. It makes me happy to just go in there and look, even if I don’t sew that day. I am out of room for fabrics but who knows, I may still have to buy more.
Love it! 💜 Hurray for your new patterns!!

The vintage Butterick pattern looks very familiar to me. You know I think my Mom made the centre version that you like in a brocade fabric with silver threads in it for my cousins wedding back in the day. If not that pattern one very much the same. I remember her dress and the type of brocade fabric that ladies made up in special occasion dresses.
Nice pattern haul.

Yes- you need fabric!-new patterns- have to sew!
I love the dress you are wearing. It brings the bust into focus. Beautiful . You could
Copy the main pieces on Pelion and use those shapes to replace pieces on other tops or dresses. The best one I have seen you wear. I am always good for fitting advice. My specialty is fitting. Very nice choice. You mention maybe not wearing all the long fashions. You would feel better if
You could reduce all the fullness especially
Around the waist and hips. Things should flow but remain close to the body. I keep wishing I could fit some of those things you are making.
I know exactly why we buy fabric. Good fabric is hard to find, and if we don’t buy it when we find it, it will be gone from us. Forever.
that's a good point, as you notice Joann doesn't sell silk fabric.
Crop tops! My mother made me a shorts outfit with that type of top, except that the bottom was loose and had white popcorn fringe all around. Not today, LOL!
Hi Viv, My daughter is a very careful shopper, and when she says to me “I don’t really need it”, I always say “it’s not about need, it’s about want” he he.
My Dad used to always say “deny yourself nothing”, a very clever man, it’s always good to follow your Dads advice. Enjoy everything you buy 💕
Oh where in heaven did you find the Butterick 4485 pattern in 36 bust? My mom made me that dress back in the 60s. I would love to make me that dress for a wedding I’m going.
Love your"new" patterns

I bought one of your patterns last week!!
I also love buying patterns and think I have the best of the men's patterns from the last 25 years...as for fabric, I have a huge selection in my small apartment, but I sew every day and could not enjoy it more...and love using my large collection of machines as well....
Great men’s patterns are absolute treasures, Howard. Good for you!!👏👏
I love looking at patterns and seeing what you've picked up. Butterick 4485 is mu favorite of this bunch. It would be so nice in a light wool or a raw silk. That's another excuse to buy more fabric. Thanks for sharing and happy stitching.
Oooh raw silk! How chic! Someone else said brocade for that dress... I’m loving these ideas. Thanks Debbie!😃
Great patterns, Viv, and the 60s vintage front pleat dress is my favorite, too! Can one have too many patterns (or too much fabric)? Of course not!!😊
Thank you for sharing
Viv is adorable!! Did you Ever explain how to choose size of patterns and other useful advices for people like me who would like to start sewing as a hobby? When I was a little girl, I was crazy about paper dolls’ books, and patterns have a similar effect on me. I have tons of them and do not do anything with them. I just like owning them. I live in Montreal Canada and unfortunately, it is not very easy to have patterns delivered from the USA to Canada. Very costly…Merci pour tout!!
Hi Johanne! Thanks for your lovely note. I talk often about sizing and how I fit myself - in a nutshell, I only deal with finished garment measurements. Some patterns have these measurements printed right on the back of the envelope (very helpful!), while others will print the finished measurements on the tissue. Of course, we can always measure the pattern pieces ourselves (be sure to factor in seam allowances.) So I match the finished bust size to my bust, and the finished hip size (for pants and skirts) to my hips. Wearing ease is already included in these measurements. Anyway, this is just one way of choosing a size. I bet your pattern collection is great! I love the old patterns with illustrations, and I really loved them as a kid. Thanks for writing!😃
Hi. Hello. Howdy. Thank you for sharing. I understand about patterns, etc.

Otherwise, good luck.
Yayyyyy! So excited! I’m addicted to buying patterns on eBay too😫
Thanks moon! eBay is so dangerous. We may need a 12 step program for this!!😭
WoW nice patterns and prices. I need to shop on eBay🙂.
Guilty ;-) I can’t resist a really good pattern on eBay! You have such a good stash.
Hi!
I also love that final pattern you showed! I would just like to say: Ha! Rules are made to be bent and broken. Who made these rules? I think we should wear what makes us happy, we’re not doing anyone any harm by doing that, are we?
Keep up the good work.
Forward Ho!
💜
Love your patters and our visits
Aww, thanks Sheila! So sweet.
Hi Viv, love your excitement. I thought of you and wondered if you have made a particular pattern...Very Easy Vogue V9258 cutest top and pants I wish I could snap a picture if this lovely pattern you would know. I would love you to model outfit again if you did. Made w woven or cotton fabrics. There are cropped pants too. W pockets of course. Keep up the good work.
Hi Gina! I’ve made that pattern a couple times! It was a while back and I have donated both outfits, but heck, I can make it again. I’ve been praying for you since your losses, Gina, hoping that life has been gentler for you and that you are making your way. Sending hugs.💕
Thankyou Viv. Let’s make it again. It would be fun. Your such a comfort.
