    That's neat. Been learning a lot about VFD's while building a new CNC machine. I want to use them for everything now.

    This is briliant. I'm in the process of building my dust collection system (in the stage of building blower) and my thinking about much more complicated way of switching it on and off. I'm planning to use remote control, Arduino, servos etc.... but your solution is simple and clever. Thumbs up :-)

    Even simpler than I thought;) Very cool resolved the matter of power and control;)
    Thanks for the video and explanation.

      My pleasure David. the VFD is off ebay at aprox 150usd

      David Stanton Hi Dave. You could do it a lot easier by using a 12vdc relay that is rated to 240vac. So buy some cheap magnetic door alarm reed switches and you're done. I'm doing this in my new workshop. Cheers.

      24volt trans and safety relay from irrigation system

    For those in the us the easiest system is to grab the 24v transformer out of an old furnace (or buy a bell transformer) then grab the contactor out of an old ac condenser. Use the transformer to power the system and use the same alarm switches. Put the contactor in a metal box and it can be used to switch a 110v or 220V dust collector. Other than switches and wire you can do it nearly for free. Then you can add a wireless remote if you want but that's a little more involved.

      Bellevue Woodshop Your solution is much more elegant than mine. Mine just uses old tech cheap parts. I would love to have 3 phase power in the shop and when we move there is a slight possibility it will be available where we are going as some areas there have three phase available to residential. When I get my new cnc router finished I plan to build a miter fence similar to yours and am planning an ardunio based system to build a table saw fence system. I use Mach 3 for the cnc machine and may contact you about your file for the miter saw fence when I get to that point. Greatly appreciate the videos as I do from many others. Nice to see all the ideas flowing here.

      I also wish I had 3 phase. This is my way of getting true 3 phase. I have swapped my capacitors for VFD, and have gotten much more power on my motors. If you have single phase 220v you can feed vfd´s all the way up to 2,2kw, so you should be able to use these. thanks for the kind feedback

      Robert, door bell transformers here in the US are 16 volts, not 24 volts like a HVAC transformer. It will not supply enough current to pull in a definite purpose contractor like the one from a condenser. The VFD is allowing a single phase system (like residential) to run 3 phase equipment. The prices and simplicity of the single to three phase VFD's have become so low now, its easy to get three phase shop equipment to run in your home shop. Also, the VFD, increases motor control, such as, jog, reverse, pulse, speed, etc. Additionally, you can limit in rush (LRA) current by ramping up the motor slowly. No more brown outs at home when a large load comes on line!!

      The bell transformers I used were 24 volt but the ones at hardware stores are typically 16v. The 24v ones are for running 3 or more chimes in a house and not as common.
      I do like the VFDs that are available now. Lots of cool stuff you can do with them over a rotary phase converter. But most guys here will have single phase dust collectors. Generally the three phase cyclones are way way too big for a home shop and most houses don't have a panel with enough amps to run it. I ran into that when I almost bought a big belt sander. I would have had to convert it to a gas engine (read big one)as the machine pulled 100 amps running...

    Would be awesome with a vfd basic video! Bought a vfd for my drillpress some time ago, but don't know a clue on how to set it up..

      There are a lot of great info on vfd setup on the web. it is very dpendant on the drive you have, and the aplication it is to be used for. Are your DP a pure 3 phase one?, What type vfd did you buy?

      Bellevue Woodshop i bought an Allen Bradley powerflex 223. Only for 3 phase I think. Need to attach a start and stop button, a direction button, an emergency stop and a potentiometer.

    That looks excellent and all but wouldn't it be cheaper to use a remote like the one David Stanton uses. Just asking and thanks for sharing

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you. I actually doubt it, as the components for my 11 blastgates cost me about 10 USD. BUT the main difference is that you will maximize your suction with this setup, unless you are extremely diciplined. I know I would often forget to close the blastgate on the mitersaw,after doing a quick cut......and just press the remote to shut the DC off. With this system, you have to close the blastgate to make the dc to stop. So you will never have more blastgates open than the one you are using. thanks for watching and commenting

    Nice setup, especially the auto on/off function but I'm curious. In your other video you remarked about the gates clogging up and you adding a dump flap. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of dust collection? ;-)
    Thank-you again for the vid and time.

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      Thanks. Problem is that the blastgate is square, and the pipe is round. Due to turbulence when air and dust pass the gate, there will be dust particles that get caught in the 4 corners. This will get jammed unless it is removed

    • @TairnKA
      @TairnKA 7 лет назад

      How's this; have a small chamber around the dump gate with a tube (1" to 2") running upwind (6"?) from gate? ;-)

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      The sawdust from the dump are minimal, so i can live with the small amount of dust falling on the bench

    How is the VFD wired if you have 220V 2 pole power source and 220V 2 pole dust collector plug?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      You cannot use a vfd on a single phase (2 wire plug) it has to be a std 3 phase motor
