Working at a nursing home, I can tell you the very best reason to do some form of glute exercise (along with abs and quads if you have to limit it to three). It is just really nice to be able to get up from your bed, a chair, the toilet and even the floor without being dependent on other people. Most people did not loose that ability over night. It happened so slowly, they hardly noticed before they had a problem. Use it or loose it. So do use those glutes, quads and abs :-)

Thanks for sharing!! So often, I read these comments and wonder why people use their time posting some things. This is outstanding and I will use this insight in my workshops. Much appreciated.

I just started reading this old book published in 1924 called Super Strength by Alan Calvert, and wouldn’t you know it but the very first chapter he talks about the low posterior muscles being the most important muscles to strengthen (erector spinae, haunches (glutes), and hamstrings).
Lore has it that Super Strength was like the bible for John Grimek.

The hip thruster bench that Bret Contreras made is great too. One of the best investments I’ve ever made for my training studio. Hip thrusts have a quick learning curve, seems to be really low risk, and the results come quick

I prefer the Smith machine, the hip thrust machine (BB) you kind of have to hoof it up with one leg, I dont like the free bar and bench setup either, but the Smyth machine and a bench is just easy to work with and easier to load up, maybe the ROM is a little shorter though havnt noticed

Well, we’re just different enough and have enough different equipment that just about anything can work

Interesting, never thought of using the smith machine for that. If I ever get back to a gym I’ll give it a try:)
