  • For our anniversary I got my girl Nay and I a penthouse for the night at the world famous Hyatt Riot House on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Today it's known as the Andez West. I hadn't been in this hotel since the 80's and I thought while we were staying there I would take her on a little walking tour of some of my memories of the Sunset Strip as a metal kid in the 80's as well as a bit of my own personal band history from performing at these clubs in the 90's. I thought it would be fun to document this and it was. We had a blast. I hope you enjoy this little piece of musical time capsule.

Thanks for taking us back with you, although I gotta say that it's pretty sad seeing it how it is today. My wife and I were in The Whiskey back in '87 (hopefully I'm remembering it correctly). We were both 26, 25yrs old and loving Sunset Strip. We ended up seeing the band Kix, they put on a great show. I also remember while we standing there a guy introduced himself to us, he said that he was the manager Noel Monk for Van Halen.
Whether he was or not, I'm not sure but he was interested in my opinion on comparing Sammy and Dave.
Again, great video and even though it'll never be the same, thank you for your video. 👍

Totally love the 80's and the Sunset Strip era. I wish I were around then to really soak it in and be a part of it all at it's peak. But I instead just enjoy the music every single day which truly helps me get through my day. Scorpions concert is this month for me in Detroit, so that'll be awesome. Thank you for sharing your insight on your experiences of that era, I really enjoyed it. Congratulations on your anniversary. I hope it was wonderful, and that you two have many many more.

People were watching them as they were eating at their tables but no one was standing in front of the stage. So when we were done we went to stand in front of the stage, technically playing for 2 people. Lol, now look at them.

Thanks for this! I came out to So California from NC in 1989 and my then roomates used to go to Hollywood(the strip) every weekend. They were trying to "get famous" all the time. I jist wanted to see what it was all about mostly. It was fun while it lasted. Everything you said about the flyers and the hair and the booze was so true :) I was in my 20's when I was there so could get into a lot of those places but didn't want to lol. Anyway, I appreciated your recollections of the strip and the surrounds and just know some of us are still out here and we feel the same about the tearing down of music history x

This really hit home for me. I was in a band in the 90's in the DFW area. We got to open for bands like the Toadies and the Nixons (and even got to "open" for Bush once when they played last on an all-day bill where were played first, LOL) at cool venues in Fort Worth like Mad Hatters (where the video for Mister Love by the Toadies was filmed), The HOP, Dogstar Cafe, and The Galaxy Club in Dallas. Hell, we even played the same club where Pantera got their start, an awesome little place called Joes Garage in Fort Worth (including being asked to come play their last night open). The tour of your old haunts really reminds me of those days ... Thanks for the video!!!

Ah so a fellow musician who found it cool and weird that someone asked for a stick. Or my case pick and an autograph once… Probably only because we opened for Golden Earing at Park Pop - “fame by association” 😄
I only been asked for an autograph and/or pick twice and every time it felt weird. You like it but as a session musician and a tribute/cover band artists you don’t really get that.
The best thing was hooking up with a 19 year old girl as 22 year old after a gig. But the fun left. When she was performing “the flute” and her dad came in in his robe. He didn’t do anything… I was thinking “don’t move he may not see you… wtf??? The guy is a human not a dinosaur!”
He grabbed whatever he went to grab from the fridge. Walked past us as he closed the door (his daughter still on her knees, by know I was flossing her teeth because all blood had left the ‘building okay garden shed’): “be sure to wear protection”.

When i was standing on line outside of one of those clubs on the nyc sidewalk waiting to get in to see MegaDeth and Suicidal i was wasted and all of a sudden i see a camera guy coming towards me and some guy with long black hair and when they got up to me and my buds it turned out to be Riki Rachman they were filming for Head Bangers Ball and i stuck my mug right in the cameras face like an idiot just making dumb faces cause i was so drunk lol.

Your lady is fine, Sean. Did you get her in the days of “the magnet”?
    Nice pull 👍🏻

LOL! In the days of the "magnet" I believe she was being born. Bit of an age difference there.

Great video Sean, I was out there a few months ago and went to The Rainbow room and walked up and down the strip. I would have loved to have been there in its heyday.
