Thank you everyone! I'm so glad you all are enjoying this video, it means the world to me. I didn't think it would get more than a couple hundred views but I'm so happy people are watching and enjoying. I'll be posting a new one soon about my career in the Navy and serving under DADT! Be on the lookout!
Cody Boyd As a Buddhist, it’s always been so bizarre to me that Christian people think that being gay is an abomination. In our church, we even have support groups for gay youth. It’s funny because I’m Buddhism, we teach love, acceptance, charity, non-judgment...the basic tenets of Jesus Christ...but yet the very worst coming out stories are around guys who grew up in churches that praise Jesus Christ. It’s such an oxymoron in my personal opinion. PS - I’m really proud of the progress your mom’s made, and her love for you is clearly evident! 😍🏳️🌈
I love how you structured this by including and interviewing your family members in your coming out story. It makes this a very original coming out video.
You have an awesome step-dad it seems! He really pulled your mom out of an initial slump and that is a great gift because obviously she loves you and is proud of you, so the sooner she stopped feeling bad about it the better.
I'm proud of you Cody ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 You are an amazing man and I really appreciate all what you do ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 You deserve to be happy and loved for who you really are ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 We love you Cody ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
An enlightening alternative to the usual first person coming out narratives on RUclips. Cody thanks for this. It will help many young folks navigate their coming out journey.
Wow Cody...Thanks for this story you Squid. I was an FMS Surgical Corpsman. HM2 Vietmam era I was honarably discharged in 1980. There was no way in Hell at that time that I could reveal my true feelings for a certain Sailor or Marine, without receiving a dishonorable discharge and given no credit for all the good I did and lives that I helped to save in the O.R.. Though I did have more than a couple of wonderful and unforgetable relationships: it had to be so secret. We were most often scared, yet...it felt so right...and it was. Discretion was always an absolutely must ...yet someone always found out ! Always rumor...perhaps jealousy...lol...our win and we avoided USN trouble. Be well Cody
I know that I have already commented on this 5 months ago, but I have something new that I need to say. I just came out to my sister tonight and before I did that I watched this video and it really helped me get through with it (she was very accepting by the way). Thank you so much Cody, I am so thankful to grow up in a time where videos like this are available on the Internet so that young gay people can have hope because of them, it really meant a lot to me tonight
Hi, Cody - Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Every one of us has a story to tell, our narrative. This particular video touched me because you included your family members who answered your questions in their words and expressions. A very powerful witness of love.
Hi Cody, just discover your RUclips channel during the covid-19 lockdown. Greetings from Toronto, Canada. Very much enjoy learning about your experiences in the navy. Would love to hear more about your current situ. Wishing you and your family well and stay safe buddy. 👍🏻🙏🏻
Well done! Your video shows your journalistic chops; originality, and creative approach to a coming out story. Interviews were a great idea. Keep your vids coming, regardless of topic.
Hi Cody- I’m just seeing this video and wanted to send you a message to tell you how cool this video is. It’s really nice to hear your story and hear from the perspective of your family. I hope that you have had a wonderful life experience since sharing this. Take Care and thank you fir your service to our country.
Great video, luv your sisters fun and encouraging response. I am so glad your religious sister and mom were fine with it as well. I watch a lot of coming out vids, this was one of the best by far. I thank you for sharing buddy...
Awesome vidéo Cody, your so lucky to have a family that is so supportive,i sure wish i was more fortunate, it has been a lot of years since I've seen my parents, they just shut me out of there lives completely, and it is still hard today as it was 20 plus years ago, people say it gets better, sometimes I wonder,i just dont understand how a parent can just dismis there child becouse of how there born,,best of luck to u always Cody,,
Subscribed. This is one of the first comments I've ever left on a RUclips video, just wanted to say how much I really enjoyed it, and the interviews of your family. Looking forward to hearing the rest of your story.
Cody, I am so glad you and your family shared your story. Love is the greatest thing in the world and I'm sorry I don't have the love you do. If I did then it would be easier to love myself.
Nice video, I liked the way you interviewed your sisters and mom. I was wondering if you have a dad that you came out to? You are very lucky to have such a loving and accepting family. I was impressed with your step-dad and how he cut right through your mom's anxiety. I will be interested in how being openly gay (if you actually are open) is viewed in the Navy. I'm sure the environment is so much better than the old days of "don't ask, don't tell." Lastly, you appear to be a really good guy and I look forward to hearing from you in the future. Peace & Love, Michael
Mike Quello Lol, thank you. Thanks for your service. I'm hoping to have that video up next weekend. Still trying to contact some of my old coworkers to get them on camera too!
Thank you so much for sharing and I hope your narrative may help someone struggling with their journey of self acceptance and coming out. My question to you, regarding your sister married to a pastor: are they truly Christian or just religious zealots? Huge difference as the former would hold no reservations about your identity whatsoever (love is love) whereas the latter would be rife with judgement, ignorance and hypocrisy to varying degrees. I attend church regularly but have a difficulty dealing with religious bigots. Keep posting and relating your story, someone out there needs to hear it.
This is the first time I've posted a comment on a RUclips video. Thank you for sharing your story. This was an all around excellent video from the message, to your family, and even the editing. I hope someday my family can talk as openly as yours about me being gay. Don't worry, it hit the subscribe button halfway through the video. Thank you for your service.
Keb EightyFour Thank you so much. It definitely takes time but I too hope your family will open up to you. I just kept my chin up and as long as you do the same everything will hopefully work out for the best.
We ´re now august 2019, 5 years later, how it is going? ,,nice vids wish to see more things about you ! Would be great if you could put an answer on your channel !
Hi Cody Thanks for sharing your story. You don't talk about your step dad to me he sounds like he is a champion of yours. It makes me think what would have happen to your story if he wasn't able to turn your mother thinking around. Best wishes Darren
Well done, Cody. I do envy you a bit for being in Italy for that is a country that I love to visit: In fact, it was my late father's favourite country in Europe. Back to your video, you did a very good job here. It was quite interesting to see the remembered reactions of your family members. I am putting this on my "Coming Out As Gay" RUclips Playlist.
Happy you can be openly gay now while serving your country. I was in the Air Force during DADT. I was open as much as I could be at that time. The times are definitely changing and now with Marriage Equality I hope you find someday a spouse to marry. Glad your mom is protective of you. Good luck in your career as well.
Jeffrey Carvish Thank you Jeffrey. And thank you for serving! It's a shame it took as long as it did for DADT to be repealed but better late than never!

You certainly have your feet on the ground, and great support from your family. Your sister Crystal might want to rethink her reaction to your coming out; it is not a question of 'condoning' your lifestyle; it's what you are, like skin tone ie can't be changed. It is not an affectation. You need no help from me, enjoy life.
Cody, thanks for your video. I appreciate all that you shared. You are a beautiful person and a handsome young man. I say that because I am 63 years old and coming to grips with the real me. I was a church choir director for 37 and I hid behind my job and suppressed my sexuality. I had all the thoughts and feelings and desires but I did not act on them except for fantasy and masturbation. Take care of yourself and all the best to your future. Andy
Your step Dad was great. But I really hope that your sister has learned that being gay is not a lifestyle. But not surprising that she is a “pastor’s wife.”
You are not telling your own story you’re not telling it as if it is you the stone sorry you’re just putting your family on here just tell your story so we can hear you talking and not you’re failing you are just parading your family on here in town your story for you or seen their reactions so go back and tell your story it’s still a good video I’m just not sure if I like it or not but this is just how I feel about this video here is not your story you’re letting your family doing it for you you’re not rude tone the story so I’m sorry I had to give the video I dislike sorry I have to do it because it’s not you are still in the story so I would really like for you to go back and tell your own story not parading your family on RUclips
Why does your sister married to a pastor call your being gay a "lifestyle"? If you were black or very short, she wouldn't call your skin color or height a "lifestyle". What do we have to do to get the message across that being gay is no more a "style" or "choice" than the natural color of your skin or hair or eyes. You are a handsome man and will be a catch for some lucky guy; 4 years after this video was made, maybe you already are. :)
Thank you everyone! I'm so glad you all are enjoying this video, it means the world to me.
