You forgot step 1, after opening the hood. LIFT UP THE WEATHERSTRIP ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, AND REMOVE IT ONLY HALF WAY AND REST IT ON THE ENGINE COVER.

Why wouldn't you wipe down all that debris. Takes two more seconds and less crap in that area towards the filter.
