      SuperButterBuns lmao yes I am 😂. I agreed with pretty much everything you said. Demons souls ripped me a new one because that was my first. After hearing your points on Ds1, I think I'd agree. I have to replay Demon's sometime. Ds1 is my favorite lore-wise but I'd have to say Ds3 has the best gameplay and is the most polished. DS2 was trash imo. All quantity instead of quality. Very good video!

    • @shredgordon3240

      Brendan Wake idk I found bloodborne a lot harder than ds2. In ds2 you can get a ring that stops the health loss at %25 and by the end of the game I had around 90 human effigies

    • @penguindb0912
      @penguindb0912 5 лет назад +177

      DS2 was difficult not because of its levels or fight design. It was difficult because the developers, which were not the same team as DS1, 3 or bloodbourne, thought the definition of difficulty was just throwing a large amount of mobs at you. You also could only turn in 8 different corrections, unlike a full 360 degree turn, making movement near impossible on narrow passages and the hit boxes on both you and the enemies/bosses were completely random. Also, damage done from falling was inconsistent and it depended more on which area of the game you were in, not the actual distance fallen. Ultimately, it was the flaws in the development of the game that made it more difficult, not the game itself.

    • @tylerworrell4446
      @tylerworrell4446 5 лет назад +71

      Dark Souls 2 was hard because of poor design choices. I feel like DS3 is hardest due to more complex boss movesets and it being faster paced. But I can definitely understand how DS2 feels much harder sometimes. It feels harder for me but I believe that DS3 is objectively the harder game even though it was easier for me to beat.

      What ruined ds2 for me was the enemies, most of them run as fast(or faster) than you and hit like tanks, also they have some very generic designs, which makes fighting against them a bit boring and repetitive, also they are positioned in a way that you can't see them

    I started with DS1 years after everyone else. I was having fun, dying constantly but slowly getting better. Then I had a stroke and lost a chunk of the part of the brain that helps with the timing of motions, and, welp, no more Dark Souls for me. Now every Soulsborne game is "the hard one." A few tips for new souls players that want to "get gud":
    1. Weapon base damage isn't everything. Always go for the better stat scaling. NEVER use a raw stone weapon because it removes all stat scaling.
    2. If you're having a hard time fighting a boss, back off a bit and study what moves they use when you're at a certain distance or position. Once you've figured them out you can use that to exploit them and punish when they wiff an attack.

Or was that the abyss watchers? Maybe both? And they were searching for a cure to the curse of the soul by using blood. I think that's a reasonably strong tie. If I gotta find specifics I will, but I'm pretty sure that was a thing in ds3.

    DS1 is probably the hardest for a completely blind playthrough due to how confusing it is and not starting with bonfire wrapping, but it's also the easiest once you have the knowledge. Bloodborne's the hardest overall because no shield, no arrows, no free healing, and PaPa G boss fight right in the beginning.

How hollowing actually works is weird and you probably won't figure it out, but if you just talk to the guy every once in a while and die a reasonable amount you'll probably get the levels you need. After that you just need to not find Horace in the lake and tell Anri where he is while she's in that place, easy enough to do accidentally by missing the lake entirely or putting it off until you reach Irithyll and follow the instructions of the creepy lady and not do the Betrayal ending which is pretty easy.

      naah, i vastly prefer ds3 and bloodborne even though 1 was my first. they suffer drawbacks sure, but the improvements far outweighs 1 by a landslide. everything from the environmental art designs to the enemy and boss designs are leagues better than 1. not to mention even the normal enemies in 3 and BB have more attack variety and phases than even the bosses in. i also think in-area level design in 3 is better than 1. cathedral of the deep and undead settlement has some of the best shortcuts to a single bonfire in a single area, and there are a shitload of those types of shortcuts sprinkled all over 3, although ds1 is still the master of area-to-area or whole-world level design. well the first half at least...the 2nd half of ds1 is almost universally dreadful, unlike bb and ds3.

    • @mastergame1311
      @mastergame1311 6 лет назад +9

      It's the best because it's poorly designed? Don't get me wrong, i love first Dark Souls, but i also think that people tend to take every bad thing from it and turn it into an advantage. Long, boring paths to bosses for example (Artorias, Bed of Chaos). Or even not being able to warp to every bonfire which greatly increases time spent on running through low level regions. Not being able to reset your character is also a pain in the ass, for it means that the build you were thinking of during leveling up becomes your primary one and you're stuck with it.
      Oh, and by the way, fanbois of DS1 are kind of shitbags when it comes to arguing about why DS1 ain't that great or why DS2 is actually a really good game (i find them both really enjoyable to play and i couldn't just say that one is better than another, due to the flaws of DS1 and some not-so-well-thought decisions from DS2).

    • @BathroomTile

      mastergame1311 I think you're mistaking your own preferences for "poor design". Don't disregard people who enjoy those aspects of DS1 as being fanboy "shitbags" who are in denial. It's a matter of personal preference in games. You clearly prefer a streamlined, polished, customizable experience. I prefer the exploratory and atmospheric experience. I agree that DS1 isn't as polished as the latter games, both in terms of gameplay itself, as well as in terms of accessibility, with the character resetting, the warping, the build variety, the easier restoration of humanity and so on. But these things, while welcome to an extent in those games, aren't missed by me in DS1. The actual experience of the game - the worldbuillding, the level design, the feeling of entrapment - they trump the game's mechanical faults, in my opinion. And the long paths and backtracking, only make the game more satisfying and immersive to me by forcing the developers to come up with ingenious continuity between very separate areas.

  • @christophercollins3632

    I totally understand that part of what makes DaS1 so appealing is the struggle to find each bonfire on your first ever playthrough. But I prefer that DaS2 made all other playthroughs more fun.
    Bonfire Placement in DaS2 is maligned unfairly and represented poorly, often without context. The only obvious complaint is frequency of placement, which I agree with, because it lessens the stressful adventuring needed to find each coveted bonfire on a your first ever playthrough. But I got over that small disappointment and loved the bonfire SYSTEM for how it improves future playthroughs. Why? Bonfire Ascetics. Unusual builds could be created early game by accessing the new game + armory using Bonfire Ascetics. This moderately uncommon item can be burned, as often as desired, in a Bonfire so that the nearby area is permanently increased in level to the next higher new game +, which resets the area items and boss. This causes weapons and items, especially those that appear only in new game + or above, to become available in your first runthrough. From Software situated bonfires in DaS2 so that a single use of this powerful item wouldn't reset the loot from too large of an area or effect multiple bosses. Ascetics are the key to getting to play with whatever gear you want sooner than any other Souldbourne game.

      i did half&half for bloodborne, but took it upon myself to at least beat logarius with my own hands the first time.
      i died like 20 times to win, but just when i won i said "fuck, this is a lot easier than i thought".
      you just need to use your brain WHILE fighting to win, it isn't like other rpg where it's brain first and action later, or just straight up action like (most)fps or straight up only brains like most strategy games, you have to do a bit of both, and as long as you don't lose your cool, pretty much almost everything in the soulsborne media is going to be easy.
      i say almost, because then there are bosses like darkfuckeater midir which one shots you if you're not embered and you can do nothing about it unless you use pestilent mercury which you can indeed lose in your first playthrough, even easier is to miss it.
      but even he has ways to beat him and not let him trigger the one shots, it's just REEEEEAAAALLY time consuming, way more than almost every boss in any fromsoft game.
      oh btw, the fight is on my channel, nothing special if you don't consider that before that i died 20 times and only once i almost had it.

    Personally I think Demon’s Souls is one of the hardest but that’s probably because I played a dex build with basically no magic at all. I think it’s overall design is more unfair than Dark Souls but that’s probably why it deserves to be broken with insane magic builds. I think it’s a tale of two games, don’t use magic and have a bad time or use magic and turn the game into a joke.

Bow and arrow is your best friend in this game it lets you cheese astraea, cheese the armored spider quite nicely among other bosses and to top it off it makes everything that seems like a bullshit ambush seem fair cuz u ended them from the distance. Also bosses in average arent really that hard as compared to ds1 or any of the other games. if bosses give you trouble u can bow+ thief ring for the win if you really want to get it over with quick and dirty.

The thing that disappointed me the most, was when I figured out after 2 weeks that you could co op bosses with solaire and players, and that you could powerlevel in darkroot. If I had known those 2 things at the start, I would be much further along now. Hell, even knowing that slumbering dragon/ fog ring existed changed my entire gameplay. You can ring of fog/ slumbering / poison arrow 95% of the game.

    In *my own* opinion, I find Bloodborne to be the hardest of the bunch. Purely for the much faster and aggresive design it was built around (I play very defensively in the other games, with a big shield in hand while luring the enemies one-by-one).
    And also the fact that Bloodborne was the first game I experienced where healing items were finite (again, I was too used to the estus flask from DkS1 and 2), so I actually started to struggle the *more* I fought against a boss.
    And while I never got the chance to fully complete it before my copy was taken away, the game was phenomenal during the time I had it in my hands. And I'm still debating to this day whether I should get a PS4 to play it again (among other games).

    Parrying Gwyn is actually the hard way of beating him. The easy way of beating him sums up to 3 words: Homing. Crystal. Soulmass. Spam that and he's dead in no time.
    I haven't played all Soulsborne games but I don't think that anyone can rate their difficulty in any objective way. Just as you said, everyone struggles with different aspects of the game. Some people are impatient and can't bring themselves to take the time to learn an enemy's patterns. Others are the other way around, just too passive and defensive and don't play aggressively enough which really means instant death in some places, especially in Bloodborne. Some people suck at RPGs and end up leveling all sorts of useless stats in Dark Souls (ehm Resistance ehm) only to end up with a character that can't really do shit. My first ever Dark Souls character was a thief which I chose because it sounded cool, but was actually a bad choice for a rookie. I didn't go for any specific build, just leveled up whatever the heck I felt like, and never got past the Gargoyles. Then I hit reset, started a new character (I think a Bandit, maybe a Cleric idk) and ended up breezing through the Gargoyles like it's nobody's business. There are hurdles that are always hard like O&S of course but I beat that game so many times (with the same character, got to like NG+9) that even those stopped being all that tough. Except for that asshole Manus. God damn.

The Souls games are tough, but balanced and fair. Cuphead has excessive amounts of trial and error and is hard for hard’s sake. Cuphead is designed so you can’t help dying over and over until you memorise all the attack patterns.

    • @James.Stark.Ben.Edition
      @James.Stark.Ben.Edition 5 лет назад +5

      @@MindinViolet it's possible on cuphead as well. You just need fast reflexes. There's multiple bosses you can beat in cuphead on one try. And there's a few in dark souls as well. But that depends on luck. Not skill. You can easily die to pinwheel if you get bad luck. The same way you can kill the gargoyles if you have good luck with which attacks they do. When comparing pure skills needed and no button spammy bs (I'm looking at you bloodborne bosses), they're both literally the same.

    Ok, so what's going on here is the shift in difficulty depending on where you are in the game. Dark Souls 2 is by FAR the most difficult for me, I've never died more in a souls game as I have in Dark Souls 2. I'm just glad that Human Effigies are plentiful. Dark Souls 3's late game pisses me off too but it's not as bad as the 2nd. The first game's only difficult early on, it's harder to level up, but once you get a build going, it's really fun and rarely die aside from falling to get an item (I'm looking at that tree of cancer here..). The DLC isn't too bad in the first game either.

Fear characters are shit and ds3 is easy as shit cause it's linear with nothing to prevent you from just running straight to the bosses. Ds3 is like sekiro in a way just roll through everything. The same CANNOT be said about ds1. Rolling ain't gone do shit for you against the 4kings, nito, Manus spamming his combo, and so fourth. Running is also not as good since enemies chase you to hell and back then clump up and block everything off or you run into the narrow ledges like with the knights inn anor londo blocking shit off

      Bonfire are everywhere in ds3 every boss you kill they are all very close to each other they are not spaced out and in ds2 in my opinion the bonfire placement is balanced

      If warping was restricted to specific bonfires, Dark souls 3 would be more interesting.
