KANA is an illustrator based in China. She specialises in character art featuring some of the best lighting I have seen. Her masterful use of different lighting scenarios elevate the compositions and tell a captivating story in her art.
In this video, I attempt to uncover her techniques and lighting philosophies by analysing and studying from her artworks. I then tried to recreate her lighting style in one of my drawings.

This is how I analyze art from my fav artists without realizing it HAHA - though now I know the terms and some new techniques (the glowing effect is a life saver)
10:30 quick explanation: when she does her ‘burst’ the end of her hair starts glowing. this also happens with the other archons/gods of genshin (venti, zhongli and nahida). so the drawing is quite accurate to what happens in-game.

8:51 I think it can be a way to portrait that the character isn't human (she's a puppet) or just a "keep it simple" because there is already a lot going on near the face.
8:39 my guess is that Kana doesn’t want to draw too much attention to the lighting scenario since they’re kinda cheating it. The character is drawing her sword from below the head, but lighting from below can tend to look uncomfortable or off putting. So Kana decided to light be face from above and opposite the camera. This is enforced by the tight value range between the light and shadow. But it might just be because they forgot to add it, we have to remember that all artist are just people
we need a translator xD
Adding onto this, there isn't always subsurface scattering where hard lights are. You usually see that more in natural environments. But I think it's just a stylistic choice not to add it
