The first time I rode this trail was back in 1986. The trail had 6 or 7 large rocks and or fallen trees to climb over or around. There was also old wooden flume from the 1800’s and aluminum pipe that eventually was removed. There were no other riders out there except for maybe Max Jones and his trail crews working their way north to eventually make it what it is today, the smoothest most scenic mountain bike ride in the US. This trail inspired me to open a bike shop on the north shore, we did many tours, bike sales and rentals over a 30 year period, the best 30 years of my life!
Yeah- I had an international youth hostel in SF in the early '80's and Lake Tahoe & E Fork o American river I also did tours- as well as- Napa/beach parties etc. Yeah California-Living back then was A Lot!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing that what a absolutely stunning gorgeous place to ride a mtb and to ride it with the one you love. That must be absolutely awesome thank you 🙏
Brings back great memories for me. I rode this trail 25 years ago on a human powered MTB and still remember how much fun we had and what a great workout it was for me.
"I actually burn more calories on an e-bike" -- It has now been about 2 years since I got the e-bike, and I honestly believe I'm way stronger and with more endurance than when I was riding my old analog bike. If for no other reason, I'm able to ride several days a week and I ride much further, and complete climbs I never would have attempted before. When I hear people say an e-bike is cheating... it makes me mental now. You can get what you want out of the e-bike. If you want to work,, just lower the pedal assistance.! Anyway, thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
Overall Great video- location and adventure trial certainly one of The World's Best for the average person to do! I used to live in SF waay back in '1980's and the Sierra's were always a High point in California living! These days I'm 70 now living in the NE as took my young wife up to Stowe Vermont recently and she liked MT. Mansfield- I told her- this wasn't nada compared to The Sierra's!
Yes you are correct. There is still some climbing even after shuttling up. There was even a steep section that I could see being tough for beginners even if they had e-bikes (if I remember correctly). As far as the wide bars on our bikes: I can’t remember exactly the width of our bars at this time but there were several videos that I watched which showed my bars are exactly perfect width for my height of 6 ft. However my girl is 5’ 11” and that calculations showed we needed to take an inch off total. I have cut hers down a few months after this video and she is way more comfortable even with what seemed like such a small amount. I still think it’s too wide for her though… Thanks for watching and thanks for your comments!
Hi Doug! The bike does have a dropper. She is just finally starting to make her change over from green trails to blue. She doesn't get very much time to ride so she is in her next phase of learning. I took her on a pretty hard 10 mile trail this past weekend and she did very well though. Thanks again for watching. and have a great day!
Very excited for my ride there I made reservation for Sep 04th @9:30am. How long did it take you guys to make it from the bottom to the bike/coffee shop. Thank you very much for the informations. My question is where to park to take the shuttle ????
Park at the bike shop and take their shuttle. If you do that you won't have to pay to park at the parking meters or fight for a free parking spot on the street. As far as how long it took --- I think it will depend on your ride skill and/or the skills of those with you. A think skilled riders can do this in 1 1/2 if you don't stop much. I think it took us like 3 hours but we took our time to enjoy the ride and also film and take photos.
Sorry it’s me again lol after just putting a comment on. I’d like to say what a beautiful fantastic change to a mtb channel. Yes it’s good to ride a high octane trail but just to get out on a trail like these . This is what a mtb bike can get you and one you love out for a fantastic awesome time ! Thank you I’ve just subscribed to your fantastic channel 🤘🏻🙏
Thank you so much! I'm really glad that there are many viewers like you who just want to appreciate the beauty of the ride and not race through the trail. Don't get me wrong.... I love to ride fast and hard sometimes, but a lot of time I'm just out looking for a break from all the long hours work. Riding is and hour or so where we can focus on only what is happening now. Its mediation exercise! Thank you again for watching!
I've had my X1 since March of 2021 and my girl got hers about 6 months afterwards. I have about 2,500 miles on mine and my girl 700. I've had a couple of broken silent "peak" gears in the motor. but Luna replaced them free of charge and within a week turn-around period. All and all I really have very little negative to say about the X1 or Luna Cycle as a company. These bikes run great, they are easy to maintain, and perform well for the beginner to moderate level mountain biker.
This is no true. It's one way if you start at the south trailhead like we did. Then on the return trip you would use a couple of miles on the Carne Asada & Dead Ringer Trails. See the Safety Note posted here: www.blm.gov/visit/jem-trail
No that's not true! We shuttled to the upper trailhead so it was pretty much all downhill. So if you saw us moving and not pedaling it was only because of gravity!
thank you for your video sharing, by the way keep it safe your journey in the highest mountain done already hope you are doing back same thankyu Godbless
She was very scared and the first time she had been on a trail that narrow with that much exposure. My wife is a lawyer, not a mountain biker. She has very little time to ride. I was extremely proud of her for completing this trail.
Hi Byron. Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. It would be hard for me to say this trail was boring. There was 14+ miles of extremely beautiful scenery. I can understand that from an experienced MTB rider's perspective that there might not be enough "action" on this trail. That is why I was careful not to categorize this as a great MTB trail. I used "scenic" to describe it instead to not lead anyone on. However, my girl is just starting to cross over from green trails to blue. So this trail, with all the exposure, was quite a big step for her. There are many other videos by experienced riders that show this trail can be ridden with intensity if you pickup the speed. So if you are in that area, don't let our boring video keep you from trying it. Also connected to this trail is the Tahoe Rim trail which was closed because of snow. Finally, there are 1,000+ channels about riding MTB trails hard. When I started this channel the intention was not to try and compete with riders who are way more experienced and way more daring than I am at my age now. Instead my plan was to show case the landscape, and not the ride.
@@BikeRidez good to know the purpose of the channel, yes I'm used to high octane channels with fast gnarly terrain with drops and jumps and that's also how I ride. Sometimes I ride just for the views, but not often because I find it boring. You mentioned age but I'm almost 50 and still ride hard, I don't know if you're much older than that.

Fantastic video my friend !new subs here greetings from italy
Great video. We have just jumped on the e-bike train and love it. I actually burn more calories on an e-bike as well as increasing the fun factor.

Riding ebikes. Now I know why the climb didn't get any attention. Never ridden it with snow. Wide bars aren't the hot setup. Great video. Thank you.

Keep safe mam ! Enjoy your ride
Thank you! You too!
Looks like you don't even need suspension for this trail?
Excellent scenery. I am glad that ebikes are more accepted. Keep filming your rides. Gives me ideas of places to go.
Get your girl a dropper and teach her how to use it! Excellent video work and just breathtaking views. Great work! A new subscriber Thanks DK
