This was very helpful! I'm really good at English and writing papers, but haven't done so in awhile. Do you have any suggestions on where to begin? I have the college board study guide book. Also, if I was to take the clep with the two 45 minute segments, will that give me credit for freshman comp. 1 and comp. 2? Thank you!
This is a helpful video thanks! My daughter took this Clep English Composition test in her High school junior year, she almost passed. She will be taking it again this year, and prep a little better.
thankyou for this. not many videos talking about the test experience. could you also rate the difficulty level for regular individuals who are not v. good at grammar if possible
Since I liked your video, we wanted to share that our boy (15) passed the college composition clep! Here is a tip for other parents: if your kid tells you they didn't quite finish the second part (the last writing assignment), do NOT panic as you wait for results hahaha. I was pleasantly surprised to see a 61, although the writing was not finished. So that is like a 76% right? But it is sent to a college just as a yes/no (accepted or not according to their requirement) right? Pensacola Christian requires only a 50, I'm not sure about other schools.
Still confused. My son did modern states and has the voucher. The written portion- will he be given some random topics? At that point is there literature attached so THAT he can say author, pg# ? He only used modern states so this has me nervous.
Great video! I'm thinking about trying the college composition clep. Is the essay portioned administered while you take the clep exam, or is that separate?
College Board offers two CLEPs, College Composition and College Composition Modular, would you happen to know the difference in the two? Also, I’m understanding that you’re given a subject to write about, or can you choose one.
There are 2 essays on the College Composition CLEP. One is an opinion essay. For the second you are given two sources and a topic to write about. The second is the one you must know how to cite your sources.
The big difference between the two is that the Modular test does not have any essays to write. College Composition: 50 multiple choice questions (55 min), two essays (70 min) College Composition Modular: 90 multiple choice questions (95 min) I'm also assuming, since there are no essays to grade, that you would receive your score immediately like with other CLEP exams.
The exam doesn't require a specific citation form. Chicago style or MLA would both work. Basic citations would include the author's last name and page number in parentheses. For example (Smith, p.26).
Hi there Amy, I had no clue where to get essay practice for the Analyzing and Interpreting literature essay portion, is there any way you can help me with this?
I don't believe there is an essay portion with the analyzing and interpreting literature CLEP. At least, if there is, we did not take it. There are two essays with the college composition CLEP.
Hey, sorry I missed this question. Check with the school your student wants to attend to see if they accept CLEP credit. If they do, the College Composition CLEP should take care of Eng 101.
The first essay is opinion amd needs no citations. The second essay has you write based on two sources they provide you. The second essay requires the citations. Hope this helps!
taking the test will help to get through college, but remember, you are there to learn something. I am a college student and don't feel that scores in the 50 is good enough for any career . Just because you can pass with a D does not make it good enough. If i was someone's employer and asked how will you did in school and you acted proud of a D, i would not hire you. A person needs to be proud of the fact that they worked hard and did the best they could. I took a test and got a C. I was not proud of that, so i went back home and spent the summer studying, took it again and passed with a High B, now I was proud that I did the best I could and could look in the mirror and say, I worked hard for that grade.
It is important to remember that the CLEP scoring is from 20-80. 80 would be an A. So, a score of 67 is not a D but a B. That’s a very impressive score for a 16 year old. ;)
i got recommended by my english teacher to take the one with the two essays. however, im thinking about taking a gap year so i wouldn’t know if the credits would still be good and i don’t exactly wanna say no🥺
A passing score is worth 3 credit “hours.” Just a little clarification. Thank you for the info!

Thank you sooooo much, a much needed video🤗
I was just going to rely on the modern college, so I’m glad I saw this video!

Thank You, you've convinced me to take the CLEP exam

How’d it go?
Thank you for the information! This is very helpful!
Very informative, thank you!
Great video! I'm thinking about trying the college composition clep.
Is the essay portioned administered while you take the clep exam, or is that separate?
There are two 45 minute segments. One is the multiple choice section and the other is the essay portion. They are taken in one sitting.
Thank you for all your videos....they are very helpful! What level did your son complete in EIW before taking the CLEP test?
He did level 9 and wrote a few research papers beforehand.
@@amyhawn7735What does your family like to use for grammar and punctuation for older children(8th/10th grade)?
@@jmorse1010 We used Easy Grammar for 8th/9th grade and then no more grammar.
@@amyhawn7735 Thank you. Looking forward to more videos! Wishing you a very successful homeschool year.

Amy, more details on the College Composition pleaseeeee, also the Citations ....... how do you differentiate among them. Thanks 👍🏼

thank you so much!
So if I take an exam on August 1 , do you think it would be available by like the 12th of August ?
Thanks much appreciated!!

I would like to here his essay about “should you obey all laws.”
hello can you please tell me if when doing the seond essay they give you the option to copy and paste when we are doing cites?
You have to write your own citation.
Hi - I haven't read all the comments, but how can my high school senior clep out of EN101 right now before college?
Hey, sorry I missed this question. Check with the school your student wants to attend to see if they accept CLEP credit. If they do, the College Composition CLEP should take care of Eng 101.
College Composition is 6 Semester Hours and College Composition Modular is 3
So helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
How did practice grammatical errors......... please help🙏🏼
You can practice the grammar portion of the test by doing the practice exam in the College Board's Official Study Guide book.
What exactly would need to be cited if the essay is all in your own words?
The first essay is opinion amd needs no citations. The second essay has you write based on two sources they provide you. The second essay requires the citations. Hope this helps!
Hello, for how long did he prepare?
I would say he took about two weeks to go through Modern States and write a couple of practice essays.
@@amyhawn7735 oh thanks! I just realize I don't have to do the essay one, just the modular one.

Clep credits are good for many years (I think 20!).
