Could we see a test of Vita games, Shadow of Colossus, Need for Speed Most Wanted (PS2 version), Xenoblade Chronicles Wii, Megaman X Command Mission GCN version, and God of War II PS2 version to see how far the hardware can push? I know Auto Mobilista is definitely a throttle test, but I tend to think about Command Mission alot as a primarily RPG gamer (would've actually asked for Twilight Princess or Pokemon Colosseum, but with Nintendo being Nintendo, don't want the ninjas coming out 😅).

You are not reading what I am saying. Powerful 16:9 is a well covered off use case. You can use Steamdeck, ROG Alley. To me the Neo etc are stuck in the middle, they are trying to allow you to play modern games while covering off retro in a non optimal form factor. At the other end we have lots of less than $100 more optical retro form factors but the chipsets top out before PS1. The Gamecube and PS2 were the top selling game consoles of all time and closed out the 4:3 era as HD was starting to come into play. I have to believe there are lots of people who grew up in 90’s early 2000’s who prefer to pay $200ish for a device that is optimized in form factor to play those games. It seems to be the missing use case.

Sleek design and I'm impressed the G99 could handle everything at the higher resolutions. Mix feelings with both this and the DMG. Also the US pricing of $189 plus shipping seems much more palatable. Paying in Canadian dollars, it's $261 plus shipping & customs/taxes probably puts it over $300.

@@turnbasedtoddy7664 When I stated "higher resolutions," I meant 960x640 or 330 PPI making for a nice, clean 4x up scale for GBA games. As stated in the video here: 9:07
"Everything," in this case refers to the GBA emulator and the GBA library since the ratio is designed specifically for those games with a GBA micro aesthetic.
Interesting idea, sleek design but $300 CAD is a bit much to have a fancy GBA emulation device. At least it is for me. Hope that clears up any confusion.

I was one of the first ones to pre-order, but now that I think of it, I could have got a Backbone controller for my Android phone and have all the ROMS with a bigger screen and better battery. Canceled it yesterday and ordering the controller now. May be ill go for the next one in line with better specs that justify the price.

For everyone who is downing this device for the price, just stop. A modded GBA with worse IPS screen, smaller rechargeable battery, no sticks and only plays GBA cost more than this (and let’s not talk about metal shell GBAs). An unmodified GBA Micro, again no sticks and plays only GBA cost more than this. A GBA SP AGS 101 with worse screen cost just as much if not more than this. And don’t get me started on Cart prices. All those devices are 20 years or older. For us GBA fanatics this is ABSOLUTELY worth. For fans of even GC and below this is still worth it. Stop hating on this device and just appreciate that something like this even exists for those of us who are getting one (or two) 😅. Also all GBAs launched at $100 in 2001 which is roughly $180 in today’s inflated currency. So where is your argument? Well done ETA!

@@thenarrator5746 you get it. It’s remarkable how comfortable people are with paying 250 for a reshelled gba with an ips and battery mod… and are ready to shred on this. I think this is third of 3 coolest Ayaneo releases of the last 2 weeks but it’s still a firm buy imo

I would really like to see performance when streaming pc games via moonlight from a local pc. Something I really want from a small handheld but unsure about performance.

Thanks for the review! You mentioned that Blue Light may hurt your eyes, I just wanted to clarify: Blue light doesn't actually hurt our eyes. Blue light from screens causes the human (and other animal) brain to become more active due to it being equivalent to the color of light that we experience during the day. In the evening, when the sun is setting, natural light takes on a warmer hue as it is diffused through the earth's atmosphere. This warmer light signals to our brains that darkness is coming and it will soon be time to sleep. At that time our brains begin to experience a natural reduction in activity.
So, viewing a Blue Screen (phone, computer, television, gaming handheld) at night can make it more difficult for people to fall asleep due to increased brain activity. Hence, why many modern devices have a Warm or Nightlight mode.

    A 4:3 screen and this would’ve been a must-buy for me.

I love the look of the AYANEO machines, but they are way too heavy for their size. PSVita was well under 260g and had a large screen and multiple buttons. Why is that so difficult to do all these years later.

Why does your thumbnail have it playing Super Mario Sunshine but you never show it in your video?

💯 💯 love the form factory, is nice!! I was in the Gameboy micro era. Sadly, phone is getting too powerful, and with controller like gamesir and backbone, I can't convince myself getting one😢

Ayaneo seem to be working to establish themselves as the Apple or the Teenage Engineering (if you’re into synths) of gaming. Except that they do not offer anything that could be called “innovation.” They simply ramp up some specs that do not make much sense for their devices to justify high prices. Is the gaming market so widespread now that we already have a sector for “hip” devices? That’d be fine if it does not diminish the much more interesting and fun tinkerer’s market.

Start/Select location is bad. At the least they should be on the right. Quite a few retro games use Select in-game for example.
