Hi Philip, when did you place your order for them? I ask because Mizuno have announced the lz 6.5 amongst others are being temporarily retired due to stock issues.....
Having played the Modus 115 initially in my '21 T100, I can confirm that being a good golfer does not make you immune to their 'uniqueness'. 😆 You're human, and nothing fits everyone. Heads did pretty well regardless, and we learned that about them. Good stuff man. 👍
Thanks for being honest, we all have inconsistent days. Your 225 review was positive/great. Deffo need you to do 223 again to compare better to 225. Thank you 😊
Just an inside bit of info, of all the fittings I've done for Mizuno since the Pro line release, the 223’s have definitely performed on the whole best of all 3..... Just make sure you get the right shaft 😉😂 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
I just bought a mint used set of these with KBS $-Taper S stiff shafts. Played my first round yesterday. Pure bliss. Love them. I may shop for a Pro 225 4 and 5 iron to give me a bit more forgiveness on the longest shots.....due to my inability to be perfect. You have an unreal swing by the way.
Same shaft as I normally have 👍🏻 thanks for the kind feedback on the swing, I was having a bad day with these 😊 If you watch my most recent videos I looked back at the 223 vs the new 243 and had a much better time of it..... We are all human 😁👍🏻
i adore the shaft that came in my Mizuno 223 Pro irons. I also thought that they didn't feel "Mizuno soft." But i tried those shafts in other irons and they felt as soft as could be, so I blame the head.
I’ve had two sets of clubs with that exact shaft and I hated the feel on the club head. I switched to a project x on one set and DG on another at it made all the difference. Something funky about the weight distribution of the flex stability dynamics that I could not click it at all
Glad to see I'm not the only one 😊 although I'm sure in the right persons has this is the best option for them....... Just definitely not what you and I both need 😊
Currently have 120S in MP64. Maltby Playability Factor ratings of 223 is very close to the absolute classic T Zoid Pro. Still prefer DGS300 to keep ball flight down in wind so would like to test DG 120S in 223. As for 115 shaft, the tip is softer than 120, so its surprising its in a players iron.
Funny you mention the feel of the shaft…I thought I was not affected by shafts that much. However, I was fitted to T200s with LA Golf AXS 85R shafts…and I can’t feel a darn thing that the club is doing throughout the swing…it’s a chore just to get a good strike on the ball, which is uncommon for me…after hitting them for 4 months, I tried the same clubs with a AMT White S300 shaft and it was night and day…I could tell exactly what the club was doing, the face was doing, and what I was expecting to see as a result…so much different. So, instead of buying the shafts alone (due to supply chain issues, can’t find them all since they are different weights throughout the range), I found a used set of 223s with the AMT shafts I want…I’ll try them in the 223 to see if they work with that head. If so, that’ll be my gamer and I’ll sell the T200s with the LA Golf shafts…if not, I’ll swap them around and see how they each feel…keep the better set, and sell the other probably…
I know mizuno are releasing these new iron but I've just purchased the jpx21 forged, went for a fitting and just really got on with them. Think these new irons are just a bit above my level anyway
How would you compare the forgiveness of the 223s to the JPX 921 Tour? As a lefty, the SEL blend of a 4/5 Forged and 6-GW Tour was my only option in the 921 range. I have them in my bag now and love them, but would definitely appreciate just a touch more forgiveness in the 6 and 7 irons, and the slightly stronger lofts are fine with me. (I would’ve done 4-7 Forged, 8-GW Tour if they offered lefties that option). The size and shape of the Tours are pretty much perfect though, and Mizuno’s comparison tool on their website shows the 223s are very similar. Fractionally more offset through most of the set, but then the same in the 9 iron and a tiny bit less offset in the PW, which is a really nice touch and to me shows how thoughtfully engineered these are. By the way, I’m with you on the shafts. Can’t hit those Modus 115s to save my life, for whatever reason. Project X LZ 6.0s are my preference, followed by KBS Tours.
Hi Eric, the 223’s would definitely offer a greater level of forgiveness than the tours. Even though the tours had JPX921 before it, it really should be called a blade as they are so close to one its near on impossible to show any difference. The 223s as a lefty option this year will be a firm favourite going forward 👍
I have been playing the JPX 919 Forged. Sounds like the 223s could be a solid replacement of the JPX 919 forged. Wonder what they are going to do with next release of the JPX line
If you didn't want to go full hog cost for a full set, you could keep replace your ageing 919 lofted irons with a split set of 223 or 225s. Say 7 or 8 to PW and keep your original longer irons?
I thought it was me. I do not like those shafts!! I started playing golf with the project x - xstiff flighted now play the c-taper lite x stiff in my 221s. 😁😁😁. You hit the nail on the head!!! Felt like I could not control it!!!???!!!
Would be interesting to see you being fitted by Mizuno for a set of the Pro irons. Your lack of shaft sensitivity would presumably be reflected in the numbers and dispersion and if nothing else, would be funny to see them scratching their heads at the results.
Not sure that would really see the benefits of a non sensitive shaft individual (only a very small percentage of golfers) and so the head scratching wouldn't be the best advert for the need for the vast majority of golfers needing to be custom fitted...... I have had the chat for giggles and its not the best visuals 😁
Modus shafts ending in a 5 (105, 125 & GOST) share the same EI profile, I believe the 115 is the same but would be interesting to find out if different. Although often described as smooth I find them quite stout!
I had the same reaction to the NS Pro 105 shaft a couple years ago. It felt "wooden", no feel. Then I tried the True Temper Dynamic Gold 105 and it felt splendid. I was told that the weights are the same, but the bend profiles are very much different. Now I am gaming the True Temper Elevate ETS and they feel devine. Shafts make or break a set of irons. I like the club review, but your results are off compared to what you normally do. I look forward to your results with a shaft that works for you.
Very very different bend profiles. I haven't received the e.i curves for the 115s yet so will be interesting from a science background what makes that shaft the only shaft I've ever had problems with.... Might well be worth an update video on it when I receive the data.... 🤔
I have been playing the MMCs since March. It took a bit to get comfortable with them using Project X 5.5 shafts. Which do you think is more forgiving - 223 or MMC?
The 223 with a KBS $-Taper Lite 100 in black PVD would look asweosme. I like that is a GW in the set. I would play 6-GW and then replace the 5 iron woth Fli-Hi #6 "hybrid" with the the same shaft as rest of the set.
Looking forward to a new test with a shaft of your choice. You’ve already mentioned it, but except for the head length…. the 223’s look a lot like my JPX 921 Forged irons. Would be interested to see a comparison.
Hi Martin, definitely the best like for like compare between 2 irons... They literally are the JPX921 Forged in the jacket of an MP or now Mizuno Pro. If you could copper coat the Forged it would feel like the 223 😁
I have test both the different between them is they are more and more feeling soft and sound better than jpx 921 because pro223 has copper coat. In term of forgiveness 921 are more forgiveness. But in the Short iron more soft and feeling like scoring irons like pro 221 For me 223 pro is very perfect match .
Very Honest Review.....How would you compare these 223 irons to the JPX 921 Hot Metal irons.....Who would these two irons be best fitter for in Handicap range golfers??? Thanks....
Normally people would see the HM as more of the higher handicap however strike and launch requirements will definitely for the most part dictate which head will suit you 👍
Hi joey5picks, it's a really strange situation this as I'm not normally shaft sensitive in the slightest, can use a huge range with no flight changes. Is anyone else seeing the 30 yard gap between the GW and 9 iron?
It's not something that I have seen from clients..... Have you been on launch monitor to discover why you have this? Normally its a mixture of delivered loft/angle of attack /strike and ball influences 👍
You need the project x io
I need anything other than that shaft 😁, although time has now passed and I've gotten used to it. It's the first shaft in history to give me problems. All good now though 👍
Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
Yep, you’re a tool!
No but seriously I dig your channel. I would like to see you hit this iron again with a fitted shaft vs mmc. I game the mmc, not in the market currently.....but I am a golf nut, so....yeah.
Thanks!
I just wasted 21 minutes watching this.
Glad you got to the end to work that out 👍
