    I’ve been on nights for 5 years now. Took a long time to figure it out. I don’t eat heavy meals at night… usually I eat small snacks because if I get full after eating heavy food, I get sleepy. I tell my family when I work that nothing is going to get done when I work. I usually work Friday & Saturday nights (I’m a WOW nurse-work only weekend) when I get home from work I usually try to eat something I don’t have to cook, quick very hot shower, melatonin & put my phone on do not disturb. I try to sleep from about 930-3-330. However, I’ve been having awful headaches so I’m back to trying to find what works for me because I think I’m sleeping too much, which is sad. You’ll get the hang of it… just try not to push yourself with cooking meals, working out etc. do some meal preps. There’s a girl in here I follow her name is Amanda Lynn, watch her older videos of her meal preps and what she does. ☺️

      Thank you for commenting and giving such great advice! You sound like you have a good system down. I started having a lot of headaches also. Nights can be hard on the body. I hope your headaches go away soon and you get back in your groove. Also thanks for suggesting Amanda. Meal prepping would be super helpful. Thank you for watching :)

      Is there a particular reason you've worked nights for so long?

    It takes time to find your rhythm I’ve been night shift off and on over 10yrs … I’ve been “on” for 2 years now. I flip back and forth to spend normal hours with my husband and family. What helps me most is the day before going back (I do my three of four in a row) I prep EVERYTHING I make 2-3 dinner options that are also lunches for my husband I was and out away everything and I get me scrubs ready I stuff the socks, underwear, and bra I’m gonna wear in the scrub pockets so I literally just have to grab and go! I lay my workout cloths out in the morning for that evening pre work workout. It is time consuming the night before but it makes those three days so much smoother. I’ve also started keeping myself in bed until 3:30pm even on those days I wake up after only a couple of hours of sleep. No phone I’ll just lay in the dark in hopes of falling back asleep. You’ll find your rhythm!

      Ashley, thank you so much for responding and sharing what has worked for you! You are so right that prepping for the day and meals is extremely helpful. I am currently on a day shift schedule and prepping is still so necessary. It sounds like you have found your rhythm! Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you have awesome day :)

    I’ve only been on nights about 5 months, but I actually love it. I’ve only ever did date, but I feel like on days you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off lol
    I commute an hour, so I usually get home around 8:30-8:45. I carry oatmeal packets to work or a granola bar and way that on my drive home. Sometimes I’ll go home and make eggs, but i jump in the shower and usually am sleeping by 9:30. Typically I wake up around 12-1, just naturally. I either start cooking dinner for my family or turn on a show I want to catch up on. Usually i fall back asleep and wake up for work at 4:30. I may get in 5hrs when I work, but I don’t get to workout on my scheduled days. Except the morning after my last shift!

      Yes, that is one thing I didn’t like about days! They were so crazy and so many people (managers, physicians, etc) were around. It was a lot happening at once. You sound like you have a great schedule going for you!😆

    I'm at one year nights on an ortho floor. It's hard but I sleep from like 9 to 3? roughly. Only thing I will say is shower first soon as you get home, then prepare your breakfast.😊

    What advice would you give new grads who encounter bully nurses that treat them like trash and talk down to them

    • @sergiobanks274
      @sergiobanks274 2 года назад +6

      Respectfully speak up for yourself and keep a paper trail.

    • @ashleyeve6641
      @ashleyeve6641  2 года назад +6

      I would say similar to what Sergio said. Stand up for yourself and have a conversation with them about it. If things do not seem to be getting better, you can escalate it. You do not deserve to bullied or disrespected. Don't let them make you feel bad about yourself or your skills either. Nursing is already stressful. You don't need any of that added stress from a coworker. Be respectful and firm. I hope that helps!

    I got offered 6 days on and 6 days off as a new grad, do you think that is a schedule worth taking Or should I stick to day shifts?

    • @ashleyeve6641
      @ashleyeve6641  2 года назад +4

      Hello! Oohh that is a hard one. As a new grad, 6 days on and 6 days off seems like it would be a lot. I feel like it could cause burnout because that’s a lot of days to be on in a row. It helps to have some days off to break up your weeks, because nursing can be physically and mentally exhausting. I would say if it’s possible, to just stick with day shift because it would help with having more life balance. Or if you decide to do nights, i’d just stick with the 3 12hr shifts. A lot of it depends on your working environment (hospital vs outpatient), or if you are single or have a family. My dad worked night shift for years when I was younger and it worked out because he was able to take us to doctor appointments/ extracurriculars etc. I hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions :)

      That’s a recipe for burn out. Don’t do it..

    • @merindaarvie28

      If you’re single with no kids. Prepare everything because it will be hard. If it’s 6 nights, maybe not

    • @vanessareyes5332
      @vanessareyes5332 Год назад +1

      I suggest not doing that. Its not safe for your health and patient safety. You will be burntout and exhausted.
