NEW BUSHCRAFT KIT: Boreal Bushcraft Pack, SRO Bedroll Cooker, Filson Guide Sweater, Barbour Liner

  • This video was filmed over a two night outing. It features some kit that you haven't seen, so it's new to you, although I've had some of it for some time now.
I upgraded some months ago from the Frost River Isle Royale Jr to the Boreal Bushcraft rucksack by Skogsvana.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Frost River, but it doesn't carry well.
The Boreal I got has a lumbar support pad, a back pad in a sleeve (doubles as a sit pad, knee pad, ground barrier), and the hood has a zipper so things don't slide out as with the Frost River.
The pack is loaded with features and has module attachments.
The Filson Guide Henley sweater was recommended to me by the Filson team. After the recommendation I found a RUclips video where Nathan from Northwest Resilience (an Alone contestant)
who stated it was "the nicest sweater in the universe" and that he is in love with it. He wore the entire time he was on the show out in the wilderness and it never let him down.
It's a chunky beast, and it's designed for shooting, however, the waxed padded shoulder, and wax canvas sleeves were attractive to me because I normally carry large logs on my shoulder, or just various sizes of branches that get snagged, so this smooth water resistant surface is a perfect fit for me. It is super warm and durable. Something I will have for life, however, it is outrageously expensive, yet has the quality the to back it up.
Since this is only the first day of three (I will release more footage), you will certainly get to see more of the pack and its features.
I didn't mention the iconic Hudson Bay 6 point blanket I've had for months.
The Barbour Bedale jacket I've had for years and recently re-waxed it.
The wool Varmland Fjallraven trousers I've had since last year (if you notice I usually wear knee pads).
The Hat is new as well, I just don't wish to wear out my other one you've seen so many times.
And of course, last but not least, The Ray Mears Woodlore Pro knife by Emberleaf workshops. I will do a video featuring it in future. A sort of soft opening for a legendary knife.
Please don't mind the Backpackers Pantry meal. I usually bring one as an emergency ration, if I'm too tired or don't have time to cook. They can really get you out of a jam.
The following day after setup is usually when I'm settled in and can prepare a nice fresh meal.
Stay tuned for the rest of this adventure.
    Cheers,
    Càrn

You sir, have AMAZING taste in gear. I have watched MANY bushcraft videos, to compare my gear (I’m a 22 year old broke college student) to see what gear of mine I could replace. And usually I don’t approve of the many things I see, but ALL of your gear, was just blissful to see, and all went well together. Thank you!!

" There is no map for you to follow to take for your journey ... Louis & Clark " What a awesome new kit! Thank you so much for sharing this wild camp with us. That Filson sweater is looking sharp and also loved seeing the Boreal pack and SRO bedroll. The location you chose looks breathtaking what a awesome place for a camp. Can't wait to see the next part of your journey my friend.

Hello mate, I'm presently in the Northeast states. Back in the UK there's not enough Wilderness to explore that it has trees and woodland. Up in Scotland there are mountains but hardly any woodland except in Caledonia. You can't even carry a knife on public land. The states are more vast and have more variety in climates that are just a few hours away. I'm obviously in a temperate zone and I usually post the temperature in my videos. This last trip was -8 to - 14 c and that's where the gilet came into play.

I've been trying to strike a balance between comfort and lightweight with the wool and canvas kit and got a bit of inspiration from Giles Binyon here in the UK (check out his channel if you're not already familiar as it's well worth a watch).
Thanks as always for sharing and I look forward to the next installment. All the best 👍

Hello mate, well as you can see, my kit varies with climates and conditions.
In the summer my pack is always lighter of course, even if I do go traditional I'm still carrying less equipment than in the winter. In the summer my kit might weigh as light as 10 to 15 kilos. In the winter 20 to 27.
I also have my synthetic kit that I use I go hill walking for miles before I camp. Versatility is key., And of course, the more traditional equipment you use the better your skills need to be, so you can carry less. I did check out his channel, thank you. Good to hear from you mate!

Hello, thank you! It’s 40 litres yet expandable. The company is no longer in operation, so I was lucky to get mine before they closed up shop. It’s a great pack and I couldn’t have asked for more. Let me know if you have any more questions.

@@TheLoreofBushcraft thanks for the fast answer, I ordered an 80 liters handmade canvas bag that I received but it's too big for me. I underestimated the size of it. But the quality is insane. Now I try to sell it and order a 50 liters version.

Hello, I would go with 40 litre, otherwise it will be too heavy and you don’t need more space than that.

Hello mate, my last pack was the Frost River Isle Royale Jr Bushcraft pack but I don’t recommend it, it doesn’t carry well and feels as if you have a 12 year old hanging on your back no matter the alterations I preformed. I have seen some packs on Etsy but I have not researched their merits. I put a lot of research into finding and sourcing my current pack, sorry he has stopped producing. I am sure you will find something good as long as you don’t settle for less and only purchase the best. Good luck and let me know your progress. Cheers

Oi mate, yeah I've always had an appreciation for well made crafted kit. I'm presently in a states and live here now, back in the UK there's not much wilderness, woods, trees, freedom to roam, you can't even legally carry a knife on public land.
The states are less confining and more conducive to the craft.
Here is a video taken a while ago with a lot of kit for variety. The list with the timestamps are in the description. Cheers

Hello Jacob, in the winter 20-25 kgs and towards Spring and Summer 15-20 kg.
My previous pack carried like a 12-year-old hanging on my back, which was not good.
My new pack has a lumbar support and a pad which helps to frame it. This makes a significant difference.

Good morning, the Ruck is no longer available, the producer discontinued after the pandemic ended. He must have went back to his full time employment. That pack takes 6 months to make at only £800 and is a lot of work. It’s very unfortunate because it’s superb craftsmanship at top notch quality, many have inquired to me of it.

Hi Cody, I like them very much indeed, they're comfortable, durable and they protect my hands quite well. I did have to size up though.
However, I just recently upgraded to some heavy duty Elkskin gloves, things last longer when you switch them out regularly.
