Red's arc was so heartbreaking for me, probably the most out of all of them. She went from being this prison powerhouse mama who couldnt be knocked down, to losing everything after going through so much shit. As a viewer who became super invested, it's like losing some in your life who was always strong and grounded and, in turn, made you feel the same way.

The crimes that Red commited to land her in jail... She worked with the Mafia that was dealing in extortion, and smuggling. She was involved in the coverup of several murders, she made her bed and deserves whatever she got.
It's a shame her husband isn't in jail too. I wonder how he got away but not red.

Also let’s not forget how Suzanne was scared of singing in season 1 (I believe?) but then after Dogget’s death she did sing for her.

A B well i’m going off of what i see and it seems like she’s taken over what used to be red’s position, and wore red to honor her legacy. as to where she got it, i can’t say but during the last two seasons i don’t remember any of the inmates having access to makeup. maybe she got it because she works the kitchen in the ICE department instead of the main prison
i feel like boo is the only character that literally didnt change throughout prison, her first and last lines are just upbeat comedic ahaha

She did have moments of genuine caring and protectiveness, though for whatever reason she went out as she came in.
She was the most one dimensional character on the show. Definitely my least favorite.
Can we please talk about how beautiful blanca's character development is, just please, she became a part of the main cast, from just a background character
im a year too late but this got me thinking. I think because this show puts us in Piper's shoes. So just like in our daily life, in the begining, lots of people were strangers or "background characters" in our lives. Over time, those people can develop lasting friendships with us, thus becoming an integral part of our lives. I love how this show let us connect with these characters so seamlessly.
Knowing a person's backstory can change your opinion pretty hard.
Fig's character development really seemed unexpected tho... Who would've known the ice queen had a heart. Also I just finished oitnb rn and im still crying.

I was *not* expecting Fig and Caputo to be my favorite relationship by the end of OITNB, but it was, and there you have it.

I love how Nicky became the new Red. Being in charge of the kitchen, helping drug addicts become clean. Even the makeup.
Nicky lost everyone she loved, but she kept doing the same thing as Red, and helping other people stay clean anyway, I'm so proud of her ❤
If Daya survived Aleida's attack, they will become the new Carol and Barb of max :D

@@Jairus81 I'm team Daya only for the fact that as a parent you don't get to fuck up your child's life then act *appalled* at their fuckedupness as if it isn't your fault. All this concern and maternal instincts she magically has for her younger kids she should have had for daya Long before now. Daya lost her youth, her man, her child, and is going to die in prison. She's hit the point of no return. Although Aleda didn't receive the best example from her mom. Her delayed attempt at *parenting* daya is almost insulting.
I honestly thought Red was acting crazy to get into Florida and kill Frieda, her and Morello's ending were the saddest to me
The sad thing is that it all wouldn't have ended like that for Red if she only kept calm and went to see her grandson instead of attacking Frieda and ending up in the SHU. sad

But honestly, the way how Suzanne's mom is - they'll probably keep Suzanne in their for the rest if her life for free supervision.

Look at dayas situation compared to theirs her baby father walked out she got scared for going to max and getting life for murdering a co so she was ways abused which led to her drug addiction making her a stone cold bitch while flaca and maritza stayed behind the scene even during the riot they weren’t like leaders like taystee or Maria they just hung out and made videos nothing major happened to them besides flaca with pipers business and maritza with the mouse and of course her deportation but even through that both of them stayed the kind hearted people they became and always were

the final season was tragic. the heartbreak i felt was unreal but i was extremely happy with endings like Gloria’s
Maritza's was bad. Deportation sucks balls. When Blanca was supposed to get out, it actually meant she was sent to the ICE. That made me cry so much. I was overjoyed she got out, but sadly Chang, who escaped the riot in the season 5 finale, got sent back and in the red uniform.

Niazi Jbeily You do realise Lorna wasn’t a real person, right? That 90% of this show is fiction? The author has stated Lorna was inspired by two different women so yes, it certainly could’ve been changed. Though I’m happy with the sad ending as it is.

Unfortunately, they used her chronological final line instead of her final line that actually aired in flashback. It's important that even though Poussey's death was unfortunate, she was happy the last time we actually saw her in the series. This video glosses over the significance of that.

Poussey is my favorite character hands down. She seemed so kind and gentle and she deserved better
It has to be the character you love the most. The worst characters leave a villainous void that saps the drama. The best characters make you feel sad and potentially have a huge impact on other characters. Any other characters and nobody cares.
She had so much to give to the world

I’m sure you know but the actress who plays maritza came home at like 15 and her parents had been deported 😭 I love that they focused on it so much this season. Who knows if it’ll help but it’ll spread the word so more people know.

She can’t get a green card anymore. Once you are deported you are less likely to get one. + she was convicted which makes it way worse. Maybe if she married a USA citizen she could comeback.

One thing I’ve noticed is that they all softened up by the end. They all started out rough and tough cause they had to be and by the end the audience can see that they’re all just real people with hearts and souls ❤ it’s actually really beautiful 😢

I will forever be sad about Red and her downfall. She was a super indestructible powerhouse of a prison mother, to an old woman loosing her memory more every second. Red will forever be my favorite character. So glad that Nicky ended up being like her in the last episode. (Same makeup, exact same shirt, same style, and trying to develop a prison family herself.)
Every old character made a comeback/cameo for the last season and I was over here waiting for Bennet to show up at some point lol

this show wrapped up in the best possible way. there were some sad endings, some good ones, some unclear ones and we even got to see old characters again. no loose ends, no bullshit. the writing was overall really good and I'm more than satisfied with how it ended.

S T, I disagree I think she had some of the best character developments out of the characters, to start off with Piper ran after the perfect planned life that had been set out for her by marrying Larry, she chose him because she didn’t like the uncertainty of Alex and the disapproval she brought with it. Piper said to Larry “you’re running on an old version of me” meaning she knows she’s changed she isn’t that same person anymore and she proves that by not following Zelda (who is Larry but better) to Northampton, which she would have done a few years back because Zelda also creates that picture perfect life - reputable job, apartment and money, Zelda runs in the “same circle” as Larry and Piper’s family so would win approvable. But new Piper abandons all that, she runs after Alex despite all that but not in the naive way she did in season 1 where her choices were either based on Larry or Alex. Now she works on herself, she has her own apartment, she has a job and presumably her own car since she lives in Ohio away from her brother. She chooses to have Alex in her life in a healthy way but she doesn’t need Alex or someone else to survive (in season 1 after Larry dumped her she ran after Alex because she always ‘needs’ someone). So that’s a few of the reasons how I think she’s evolved. There are a few more but this comment is long enough.

i love how a lot of people dislike how alex and piper ended up together, but the show from the beginning was destined to end that way. they have been through lots of shit together and every bump in the road with eachother they overcame throughout the series. having piper go with zelda would leave behind a lot questions, and piper running back to alex really concludes how piper could never love anyone as much as she loves alex. it also shows that she is starting a new chapter and reinventing herself to someone that doesn’t leave people when things get difficult. the ending with them was 100% deserved.

I agree, I can understand why people don’t like them or care about their relationship as much as the other parts of the series but I’m happy they ended up together. When you’ve been through so much with someone, it’s hard to ever recreate a bond like that with anybody else. It would’ve been unsatisfying for them to end up with someone else or just in limbo at the very end of the series

oitnb's purpose is to reflect real world issues, and it does it beautifully- but it's a double-edged sword. you can't make a hit show off of just realistic reflections of modern day america; everyone's too used to that everyday on the news.
because the writers added what people wanted (interesting, illegal, "taboo" things to spice up their story, like sex, drugs and death) in every single season, some ppl just want an end to all of the over the top dramatic stuff and just wanted to finally see something happy for once (daya and aleida not fighting like they did all the way from season 1, wanting alex and piper to be happy together since season 1, wanting flaritza back together, wanting taystee to have justice, etc)
it's not that people don't get why taystee and pousseys story is realistic, it's just that the show itself is hypocritical. penn's final arc and death was 100% unnecessary, so now it just feels like someone HAS to die every season for some reason

But later it shows her giving the abortion pill to the lady in ICE detention to abort the pregnancy that resulted from her rape. Then it never talks about Fig being pregnant she never told Caputo and they go to look into adoption. Did Fig abort the baby for real?

But she grew up so much, she lost everything but instead of drowning in drugs she does what her 'momma' thaugh her, she helps those who are in trouble now.
