    @clydesdale1775 4 года назад +7

    Hello! Love the video so much, but I have a question about filtration: Do the rocks of activated carbon around the water and in front of the waterfall pump help filter the water? I'm guessing that the pump pulls water through/past the activated carbon, effectivly cleaning it, while also sort of filtering it as it flows in the waterfall. I am just wondering if my assumtions are accurate, im still new to the paludarium scene! :) Thank you!

    • @sofishticatedkeepers262

      @Sofishticated Keepers Thanks for asking... yes, but its very sad news :(
      I am not sure exactly what went wrong, but I think it's because I couldn't find a balance between enclosure space and inhabitant population. If the tank was too small, the crablings would fight eachother bully one another away from food, but if the enclosure was too big they couldn't *find* the food. It didn't help that my area suffered a feeder shortage for a number of months, so the food provided was not live nor very eye-catching. The final blow was a mold outbreak that went overlooked during my final exams... the one time I couldn't pay full attention to the enclosure. I was crushed that in such a short time my wonderful colony died out completely 😢 💔
      I am sure I made several husbandry mistakes, but its hard to diagnose as an amateur. I think another big part was improper diet, though it couldn't be helped thanks to Covid messin up a lot of feeder supplies. Atm I am completely out of the hobby, but hopefully I can get back in when resources allow it.
      How are your animals? Did Covid have an affect on them? I hope you had better luck than I!

      @@sofishticatedkeepers262 I wish I could send pics of the tank just to show you but it’s the very first time building one of these so at the moment it’s a little sparse with plants. I’m trying to look for more that I could put in. I’ve had to pick up his holy rock home, dig a little trench, and place food right underneath where he likes to hide. Other than that I haven’t really seen him eat any food I leave out for him.
