    Don't actually sick the foam down you'll regret it if you need to change it or decided to go back and solder in the coil tap option. Plus it doesn't come off nice it's messy and meant to be permenent. A better option if you have to stick it down would be to stick it inside the pup cavity. That's what I've done on my fishman installs after my first set.

    You should have done a comparison between the EMG and the Fishman.

      Thanks man! As you can probably tell from the run time of this video, this thing was a marathon to film & I just didn't have the energy to plan a comparison haha. The EMG's would be pretty easy to pop back in & just use the Fishman harness so I may do that comparison in the future.

      You can add "copy links at the current time" for the before, and after the pickup swap to your "more information section" at the very least, that way people can jump to each section, and listen.

  • @e.g.systems6146

    Firstly, thanks for taking the time to upload the vid, a lot of work on top of the actual guitar mods, but.... The original pickups sounded fizzy and thin, and the Fishmans didn't sound particularly better to me. Maybe a clean tone would have shown the difference better, but with that much gain, almost impossible to tell. Thanks again for the time you spent though!

    • @MobiusGuitars
      @MobiusGuitars  7 лет назад

      I can see why the difference would be hard to hear. After filming this video I actually went bacon & added the -6db jumpers to the Fishmans which really made them more dynamic. I plan on pulling them back out again to add coil splitting, something the EMG's simply aren't capable of.

    • @e.g.systems6146
      @e.g.systems6146 7 лет назад +2

      You went bacon? Mmmmm... bacon....... Uh, where was I? Oh, yes, the Fishmans are definitely more versatile if they can be tapped/split, so a definite plus point there.

    • @miremaker

      Does adding both jumpers change the sound for both options of the push pull? Or only on one of them? I'm having trouble finding info on how it changes the overall function. I have single volume and tone (2 knob installtion).

  • @michaelinglis8516
    @michaelinglis8516 6 лет назад +2

    Installing fishman fluence are not that hard. It's the same as normal wiring but you have tons of options that fishman doesn't do a good job explaining. You figure it out but it should all be explained with the diagram included with the pickups. They touch on everything but it's not enough if you've never installed them before. I've done it twice and after the fist time and messing with the first set for a year I could do it a third time in my sleep. Don't let them intimidate you basically. They all sound great except the Stephen carpenter bridge pup was very disappointing. I highly recommend starting with a basic modern alnico/ceramic set. It's the best introduction to fishman(if you play metal/ extended range. My set is on a 7 string ltd) and the best crowd pleaser. I'm looking forward to trying the classics and then single coils with my 6 strings.

      I was a fan of the Speedloader. Allowed for headless guitars and it was the only hardtail bridge Floyd Rose made.
      And yeah, a bunch of Speedloader guitars still came with headstocks. KK Downing had 3 - 4 custom guitars with the Speedloader trem. The kicker is that EVERY one of those guitars had headstock. If you see pictures of his KXK, you can see they're strung up, but there's no strings leading to the tuners. Rather odd way of doing things.
      I'm sure the Speedloader might have had a hand, but it really came back into prominence once fusion, jazz, and progressive players started using them again a few years ago.

I have been exploring sounds for a little over a year and I haven't been happy with the way the pickups sounded due to a single-coil/double coil set up I found on youtube which I initially used in order to get the max out of the pickups. After reverting to this particular setup I now have the tones I wanted out of these pickups. I still think Fishman should upgrade the wiring diagrams to better fit types of guitars. Sickman Comics Yes, fishman are 25k push pull with tons of wiring options( easy to do ). You'd be doing the pickups a disservice if you didn't change them and select your ideal settings.

      If you didn't hear the pups come with all the wiring you need and all the pots and input jack. Everything you'll need for any option is there. At first I just wired them with one push pull for voice switching but then decided to go with two push pulls later so I could also coil tap. So tone knob switches voicings and volume knob switches coil tap on/off.

    That neck holder thing you've got is really nice...What is that? I'm gonna get one :)
    I'd kill for a Strandberg 7 string, or a Parker 7 string...Maybe I can sell my Ibanez RG 1527-M and get one one day.
    I'm actually probably going to get the Fluence set in a few weeks...The stock Ibanez pups weren't that great; they were the V77/87 or whatever...I swapped them out for DiMarzio D-Activators...Those were a little better, but not really what I was looking for in terms of high gain tones.
    I was going to get the EMG 57/66 7 string versions, but the one thing I love about the Fluences is that you can coil tap and parallel them -- with EMGs you can't do that; you'd have to get the "Dual Mode" ones, and even then, it's two pickups in one casing, not quite the same thing as the FF's.
    So really, the Fluences actually do have *more* than two voicings.
    My one fear though is that they will be *too* loud, but I can't imagine that the vintage voicing is going to be that insane.
    I do like to play clean on this guitar from time to time...I love doing tapping \ Tosin Abasi style stuff; hence the need for coil tapping and parallel wiring.

    • @MobiusGuitars
      @MobiusGuitars  8 лет назад

      The neck holder is the stewmac neck cradle for electric guitars. I love my strandy 7 but honestly, the 1527m is an amazing guitar. It has my favorite non-endurneck neck profile ever. Basically just a -slightly- beefier wizard profile. I actually really like the 7-string D-Activators as well! That being said, the Fluences are amazing. I ended up installing the little output reduction jumper on this set & it improved the dynamics considerably. I really don't ever use the "active" voice & will probably look into re-configuring the push/pull to toggle a coil split or something.

    What do you set the height of your fishman pickups in relation to the strings for both high and low end and bridge and neck pickups?

    • @MobiusGuitars
      @MobiusGuitars  4 года назад +1

      There is no universal distance for "correct" pickup height, as it depends on how strong the magnet is & personal preference. I will usually set the pickup lower than I would want it, strike the lowest two strings, then raise the screw on the bass side. Stop when the sound is full & balanced. Then repeat for the treble side. Prioritize the height of the bridge pickup, then fine tune the neck pickup height to have the same volume as the bridge.

      Ill have to check out with my guitar then because I do believe mine was an earlier run since I bought it just a little before Namm!
      Thanks man!

    Question for anyone: I'm trying to decide between this guitar and a Kiesel Vader 7, thoughts?

      +Bo88y Beretta People compare these guitars a lot because they're both headless but I feel that they're totally different animals. The Boden is purpose-built to be as ergonomic as possible, with the unique body shape, endurneck, light weight, etc. The Vader is essentially a superstar without a headstock. It's cool, but I'll pick a .strandberg* every time.

    I would really like to know the name of the tool you are using, it looks super handy for soldering things together. I would really appreciate it!

    I’m looking to get a strandberg and exchange the pickups for Fishman Fluences. I’m assuming the Fishman’s are powered by battery, does that mean I have to go with the EMG-Model of strandberg, to fit the battery of the fishmans? Or will the Lace model be able to fit it aswell? Which is the better choice for the fishmans?

      The Fluence battery (except for the single coil sets) does not have to be replaced--ever. You have to cut a hole (or have someone with a half inch drill bit in a press do it for you) through your plastic cavity cover. Then you attach the battery circuit board to the inside face of the cavity cover so that the USB and LED port can sit in hole and be accessed once you close the cavity. Put some foam in to keep the rechargeable battery from moving around. And voila! (I cut it myself and did not have a half inch bit. I used an exacto knife to carve out the remainder but it doesn't look professional. If money isn't a big deal, pay someone to drill the cavity cover and smooth it out. You have to make sure that the corners of the circuit board fit the cavity so, mark the spot where you want the center of the hole to go.)

      Since 2017 Strandberg extended range guitars all come with the Fishmans from the factory

    Do they make this guitar in a 6-string? I've always liked guitars which were a bit Steinberger-like.

      Hi Marvin, for specific issues like this I would contact Fishman support. They are generally very responsive and helpful.

    Love this channel, by the way does anyone know what he uses to hold the pots and such when soldering? The sort of arm thing with a crocodile clip?

    • @MobiusGuitars
      @MobiusGuitars  9 лет назад +2

      They're called Helpig Hands. They also typically have a giant magnifying glass attached to the top. In my experience, all this does is make it super top heavy so I just remove it.
