You won't believe how much hate both this song and S&M in general got when it was first released in 1999. Now it's a classic. I felt the same way for 'All nightmare long''. I said ''that's an instant classic.''

James’ voice is absolutely incredible, Lars is super tight in their recent shows, Kirk is pulling of insane solos, rob is still a beast and their sound engineer is doing a great job. Ladies and gentlemen this a new era of Metallica, be honoured to see it happen
His voice his very tired after 3 years of touring, he sounds like he's like he's pushing it really too far and that's very worrying, they all need to rest.
Also Kirk doesn‘t “ruin“ some solos with his wah pedal, they play some E standard tuning songs and I‘ll see them live in two months. Love it!

James' voive is incredible.... but not on this song...here his voice was very very tired, at the very end after Kirk's solo he managed to play more or less better. But again very good job papa Het ;-)

as i've always said "one of the most underrated metallica songs in the list of underrated metallica songs" along with fixxxer (which they need to play live already, come oooon), to live is to die and the list goes on an on an on

The outlaw thorn and Bleeding me are for me the most underrated songs from that era.

This song is straight up underrated. It's so damn good and people never talk about it. It's always fucking Master of puppets etc that I've heard a billion times. Yeah MOP is great but this song is no another level imo.
Yeah it is. Its the chill slow intro exploding into the strong verse... Same about god that failed or my friend of misery. As much as i like Jason and the bass riff on my friend, it would be a shame not having this song around....

There is a definite sound difference between active and passive pickups. I have an ESP with the het set pickups in it and it rocks as hard as anything out there. My Gibson LP just has a fuller sound and a certain magic about the passive pickups that I love!

If u put emg jh set into your guitar of 500- 600€ (not necessarily 3000-4000€) ..and connect to his equipment (amps ,fx.....e.t.c) Then u will sound like him 95% if not 100% .

AWESOME SONG...one of their most underrated. But I am just curious...does anyone else notice the rush and drag of Lars's drumming. He seems to speed up and slow down A LOT.
I've always noticed this in their live performances. But I wonder if this is the case or am I just hearing things?

I was fortunate enough to not be tainted by the critics before hearing this when the album was released. S&M is one of the greatest live performances out there and this song was and still is superb.

This is by far the most interesting NLC-version, thanks to Kirks pinches during the first verse, and Lars holding back on the tam on the chorus and only hitting once on each tam. On SM2 he holds back a litle but then smashing on (like on NEM). And off course the vert sound of Greenie, but that kinda goes without saying.
First time I listen this song with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Kamen. It was recorded on April 21 and 22, 1999, at The Berkeley Community Theatre.

Name a song that has so much great instrumental and great rock n roll rolled into one song. Everything about this song is a masterpiece. And I think this even though my favorite genre of music is rap and I was born in 86. But, my dad did influence Metallica. Even as a 6 year old innocent kid sitting in the back of his truck while he was blasting Metallica I knew it was 🔥 then.
Hi there... I'm from Indonesia. I think No Leaf Clover (S&M 1999) still the best despite being re-sung by Metallica at a different concert. I loved all the songs on the S&M album especially The Call of Ktulu and of course No Leaf Clover. Just an opinion...
