That kitchen space is amazing in every single way. I love the idea of a fireplace in the kitchen, then there's the size, then the view. DAAAAAAANG.
The amount of care, attention, love, and admiration that this couple shows for each other as they build the home of their lives is a feast for the soul to watch.
I really can't get over how incredible that view is. That is going to make everything feel 10 times more luxurious when it's all done.

It seems as though the only things left from the original house is 1) the stone fireplace and 2) the idea of the mid-century modern home. I can’t believe how the house held up as long as it did given how shoddy it was built. It’s like it was held together with a wish. Well done !!! the only reasons I would have a professional do your roof are that there will be a warranty, two - if it leaks or there are problems they have to deal with them, and three if you don't get the proper pitch or slope for drainage, water will pool and, which is not good
They explained it further in their patreon podcast it's very abrupt in the video, but they have done a lot of research into the roofing they will be using etc etc it would be nice to have the warentee though but if contractors arenot in the budget they can't do it and it has to be done by this winter so not much choice 🤷🙂
professionals are overrated in most cases if you ask me. most handy people can figure it out what they need to and do just fine. blue collar workers like to scare DIYers because they don't like the fact that someone that's decent enough with tools and can understand codes or read schematics can do just as well. to me the only benefit is saving time and it usually never pays to have an inflated contractor come in to do it.

I had forgotten it's Wednesday and was so happy to see a 24 minute video drop. It's like how a favorite TV series would air once a week back in the day. Amazing progress, and after the work you've already done I don't think the roof will be a problem.

Look at the roof situation this way: pros framed that house. Amateurs are redoing the framing that the pros put together with SINGLE NAILS! Nobody will ever care about the seal on that roof more than you will. If you do it right, all smiles. If you do it wrong, you get to try to sleep with water dripping in your face. The pros won't be sleeping under that roof, you will. You'll do fine. You are hard workers. You do your research. You'll get it.

I love this channel. As an experienced designer and builder it is fun & funny to watch these two stumble through things towards a good result! The baby talk makes me squirm but I recognize it as their love language.
Hey Jenna just a tip my hubby(contractor) taught me years ago...hold your hammer lower on the handle you get better momentum and you drive the nail in farther. 😊

For those joist hangers I’d recommend a pneumatic palm nailer if you don’t already have a nail gun. The palm nailer saved me an eternity while building a deck a couple years ago.

It's a bummer with the roof contractors. Or with the permit people who took the money which would have enabled you to get a contractor. Anyway, there was a comment regarding 3 points why a contractor for the roof may be important, and I'm sure that's why you were searching for one in the first place.
