  • The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra plays Samy Moussa's "Elysium for Orchestra" in the Elbphilharmonie under the baton of Manfred Honeck. The work deals with the "Island of the Blessed", where in Greek mythology the heroes - who were particularly valued by the gods - found their eternal peace.
A concert excerpt from March 1, 2024 from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

Heard this on the radio during a long drive... had to pull over and wait for it to finish. Couldn't risk a crash because I was so caught up in the music that I couldn't concentrate on driving. Fantastic, haunting, original, transportive. Wish I could've heard it live.

I heard this on CBC radio (Canada) this past Sunday.
The show is called "In Concert with Paolo Pietropaolo" which airs every Sunday 11AM EST
He plays amazing classical music, I was very happy to find the video on RUclips. Brilliant piece!

I was awaiting a new rendition of this piece. I will listen in to this one more and more and more to grasp details and difference, but all in all the first impression is that I prefe Frankfurt Radio Symphony's better. This one seems faster (although it's shorter!!) more martial and more "to the point". All in all it loses some of the magic in favor of probably more energy. Good performance by the ND Elbphilarmonie Orchester, althought I must say that Frankfurt Radio Symphony does sound better, both in terms of performance and recording. Great job as always by Honeck. I will be curious to hear a different rendition by a different conductor and orchestra altogether.
