- Today, we're going to be removing the oil pan off this E46 M3 convertible! This is part 1 of a series whereby we will also change the rod bearings on the motor. But first, we must tackle removing the subframe and associated parts, which is explained in detail by the end of the video :)

Did the oil pan on my e39 525it a few months back. It was a pretty big job but working on the old bimmer is becoming actually kind of fun. Having it as an "extra" car definitely takes the stress out of it and watching your videos help a lot!
Thanks for sharing Keith, I feel the same way about these cars... most of the time haha. It's been nice transitioning to restoring these cars on my own time, because like you said, you're not in a rush to get it "back on the road" or "back to the customer". I'm planning on building a 525it soon on the channel, stay tuned for some of that content!
This is the first time I have seen that spoiler on another E46! I have (looks almost the same) one that was yanked from a body kit in the UK. I figured i was one of the only people to have this in the US. Very cool!
Really good video. Right in the middle of my oil pan gasket job. I had the rod bearings done 5 years ago and the pan is leaking again. As M539 did with that Alpina using thin coat of Reinzosil on the factory as really really do not want to do this job again.
Great DIY video Chris! Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Dutch regards, Nico.
You too Nico! Thanks
Nice video thanks ill be tackling these bearings soon
Great video as always ! Is this your m3 Chris ? If so I missed you getting it . Thanks for the great content
No, this is a client's car. Would love to build my own one day!
Damn, looks like a big job. Now I don’t feel like doing it myself 😢
Curious...I saw an M54 comment somewhere that required 'tensioning' (not torqueing) the trans bolts first otherwise you may not get the pan sealed back agains the trans and may develop a leak later. Can't find a spec on this.
When you use the engine flush do you just put new oil in or do you flush it again with a cheaper oil? I’m thinking of doing this to my car but I’m not sure how bad it is to have some of that stuff left behind in the engine.
Hey Chris! Big fan of the channel and I can’t give you enough thanks for ur help building my e39 wagon. But I have a quick question If you remember. I’m installing a dipstick tube on my m3 but it just keeps leaking. What did you do to get around that? Thank you
Great video! Hey, are you still using the Neiko Underhood Work Light?
Every day! Considering buying a second one soon so I can put one underneath the hood, and one underneath the car so I don't have to move it around so much for filming. Still works great!
@@TheBimmerBarn Great, good to know! I'm thinking of buying one soon.
What are those car lifts you are using?
Quickjacks! I have a video on them
It’s as simple as that eh? 😂🥴 not simple enough unfortunately but you gotta do what you gotta do. Wish it was a lot easier but I guess that’s what makes it a German car.
Tired of fixing BMW
Love driving the machine when it's maintenance well
Awesome video!! I’m building a bmw e46 m3 at the moment as well. Here’s where I’ve got to with my build so far: ruclips.net/video/BpOasVoBSvU/видео.html Still a long way to go 😂
