Great job on the video and explanation. I also will be doing the same job on two motors one that is out and the other that is in the car on a 2001 325i. Your video will be very helpful. Where did you get the handout on the instructions and spec you used .I will be doing this for the first time on a BMW engine.
I just let it hand with the rest, and make sure you remove the lines before letting it hang, so it doesn't stretch the rubber hoses. Quickjacks are a life saver. Thanks for watching!
WD40 will remove that plastigauge very easily. I wish I dropped my subframe on my 335i like you did on this S54 when I changed my rod bearings - #1 upper and lower were broken in half when I got in there. I was wondering why the engine was rattling for a few months - live and learn. Great content either way bro! Also too bad on that oil pump bolt - I would have replaced it while I was in there but you could get to that bearing without moving it so no harm no foul! ;^)
How many miles on your N54? About to do my bearings this month, wondering what mine will look like... Thanks for watching and leaving a comment btw, Cj!
@@TheBimmerBarn 117.8k. Runs like a dream at least for now. Wind noise is a bit up as it is a e93. I never liked BMWs but this was a good deal and your vids really helped me out with the basic maintenance on her.
Nice DIY Chris. Here in Holland, they say the S54 engines need new rod bearings every 60k miles. Have a great weekend, Dutch regards, Nico.
Great video, I’m going to be doing this on mine soon 👌
1200 miles break in Damn!

Awesome video
Could you share that print out you have? I need to do my rod bearings after winter this year.
Thanks !
oil has to warm up: flow means pressure, to separate bearings from the crank.
rod bearings don't need a break in period? if e39m5 dosen't do it I wont either haha
I see you had a quickjack. I will be doing mine soon on a quickjack. Did you support the steering rack with anything or just let it hang?
