Yes! We must appreciate C Ramachandra, who was a Maharashtrian! He was a genius MD! It is a wonder of wonders, how he could have composed music, without knowing Tamil! It is he, who had composed the famous Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon....which when rendered by Lataji, had brought tears to Nehru's eyes.
I totally agree, P Leela’s sweet voice was the curtain raiser for the dance sequence . Only Latha Mangeshkar could have rivaled P Leela in melody

What Vyjayantimala said is absolutely right! It is impossible to recreate such a dance competition again in Indian film industry, because two best, extremely talented and well-trained dancers were involved in this dance. That apart, Vyjayantimala was highly successful in bollywood not only for her dances but also for her acting as well as good Hindi diction! Vyjayantimala was the best dancer bollywood could ever produce, because Hemaji, Jayaprada, Sridevi, Bhanupriya were behind her, for sure!

My brother and I were knocked out with "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai" and " Amrapali" bought at the old Atlantic Video in Richardson, TX. We haven't stop buying and watching their films. We're just so lucky to be alive at the right time to see all this bliss from two absolute Legends of film, and highest Art Forms of India for us... Dance and Music. Peace out.

@@susheelasusheela520 I agree Padmini is Malayali. I was talking about the legendary Sukumari (wrongly typed Saroja)my apologies corrected.She was born in Nagercoil to Malayali parents. Therefore she spoke Tamil from childhood. Also Padmini and her sisters were born in Trivandrum , they lived and grew up in the kingdom of Trivancore which encompassed Marthandam and Nagercoil. Tamil to them was almost like their native language. A relative of Padmini, Sukumari and her distant relations include actress Shobana, Vineeth , Krishna and Ambika Sukumaran from the extended family. They are all in the Malayalam film industry.

This competition is a remarkable page in Indian film industry's journey. Neither before or later or even now, I have not witnessed such a dance competition. What a song with literal meaning of Tamil, the expression, capacity, capability, sustainability in each part of the movement by both the dancers are unforgettable. Great personalities and respectable dancers. I can keep on saying abouth the dance by Puppy Amna and Vyjayanti Amma and their talents. Just hats off to the greatest artists.
