I had to replace the sending unit when replacing my pump earlier this year, it just broke, but the gauge was running "hot" despite the entire cooling system being replaced. Thanks for confirming i replaced the wrong one lol. Also from what i understand, the sending unit sends info to the computer, the one we replace here is strictly just the gauge. I met a guy locally thats worked on many second gen rams and hes quick to tell me that lol. love your videos dude.

I was tired of always typing a specific repair in for my Jeep and nothing but the more popular 4.0 XJ videos popping up. So I went out and got a manual, did alot of reading and researching from google and zj forums and started making my own videos
Once again, thanks for a great tutorial. Living in the developing world, it took me visits to 5 stores to find the deep 13mm socket. I ended up using a BBQ skewer and electrical tape to fish to electrical connector back in place, but it all went together fine. The new sensor gave me a better running and smoother accelerating vehicle. Somehow, it took me longer than 4:24 to complete the job???
Nice thinking outside the box BG. The 4.0 on my one 97 is right on top, easy as pie. You would NOT BELIEVE the time I had changing out my front axle u joints & wheel hub bearings today, Man I screwed up bad on the first side I did, just in a hurry & that's NOT GOOD. Forgot the backing plate after I had everything torqued down & ready to put tire on, ME NOT HAPPY. Then I put the DAMN BACKING PLATE ON WITH THE WRONG SIDE POINTING OUTWARD, TEAR EVERYTHING APART AGAIN, BOY WAS I PISSED AT MYSELF. FINALLY GOT EVEYTHING ON THE RIGHTV WAY, OTHER SIDE WENT WELL, NO SCREW UPS EXCEPT I BROKE A SOCKET ON THE WHEEL HUB BOLT TRYING TO LOOSEN IT, SPLIT HER RIGHT IN HALF. Used impact sockets after that but I had to go buy some. The hub bolts are splined so you have to use 12 point socket, OH BOTHER. I FEEL BEAT TO HELL NOW & VERY VERY STUPID. TIME FOR A RELAXING SOAK IN THE TUB, HOPE I GET THAT RIGHT & DON'T KILL MYSELF ? OH ALSO SPRAYED MYSELF IN THE FACE WITH FREGGIN BRAKE CLEANER TRYING TO GET THE DAMN STRAW ON, OH HELL WHAT A DAY.

I was fixing my water pump on my dodge and had to remove the coolant hose right next to this, being that its 25 years old it broke. Now at least i know what i broke. Lol thanks. Also its going to be much easier to install for me seeing as its all disassembled.

Thanks for the support. Before I started making videos I did the timing chain and gear sets on Both my ZJs with friends. Its an easy job on the 5.2 and can be done in a couple hours but thats not something I plan on doing in the near future
@@devinunchained4772 I broke one of the water pump bolts off so I had to pull the timing cover to get to it and luckily there was enough threads sticking out that I could lock onto it with pliers and remove it.. So I replaced the timing chain and gear set while I was in there... On the '97 I had a phantom water leak and after taking it to a mechanic friend I found out it was coming from the timing cover so while that was off we replaced the timing chain and (gear set He did mostly everything) I had no symtoms at all when they were replaced even though the '97 chain was a little loose
Mines won’t go in . I used a little paper, towel hack, and I try threading it by hand, but I don’t feel like it’s catching a thread. Thank you for any helpful advice
My VIC does have the coolant sensor bad message but thats for the sensor in the coolant resorvoir and has nothing to do with the part I changed in the video. Most the time when your VIC has that message, its a broken solder joint inside the VIC thats causing the issue and its common with all ZJs
Well, short story. 95 Jeep GCL ZJ 5.2L. Didn’t have any check engine codes. Replaced the water pump and thermostat, because they leaked. One week later the check engine light comes on. Error code 22, replaced the temperature coolant sensor, which had a broken contact and corrosion. Ran great for a day (10 miles) New code comes up, code 32, short or open EGR solenoid circuit. Could a little water in the gas cause this? Can you help a brother out and tell me what this may be? Would appreciate it
5.2 ZJs have two tempsensors - the dualwire one you replaced - that I understood handles the engine management signaling, aswell as the themperatures for the transmission overdrive/lockup enable/override, and a single wire one one behind the altenator, that I understood was for the gauge. If I am wrong please correct me - since in some instances mopar is as clear as mud on this
I did my research before putting out this video and thats what people say on the forums about '93-'95 But for '96-'98 theres only one sensor. But thats just a bunch of speculation because people say things and dont know what they are talking about and then other people keep repeating. Theres only one coolant temp sensor for the '96-98 ZJs and thats the one I replaced and I broke down its function in the video. As for earlier models I heard people say its 2 but I have yet to see 2 different part numbers

Will this correct the stupid VIC telling me my "coolant sensor bad"? I've been driving with it "being bad" since I've owned the ZJ... I watch the temp gauge on the dash and I've never ran hot or anything over normal
I think the tab was broken off the coolant sensor just like the gray one it has a clip tab and the white tabs are for wire placement . Great job one the picks and paper towel trick .

I replaced the temperature sensor on my 97 ZJ I've heard there's a second one towards the back of the engine driver side I'm gonna look at it tomorrow. It only gives me the right temperature after I shut the car off and turn it on again

Mine must be working because the gauge in the car works great but the information screen pops up coolant temp sensor bad. Think it's an issue with the screen? It also says brake lights are out but they work fine. It's a 96 grand Cherokee limited 5.2L love your vids👍
I just got a 1994 5.2 and my temp gauge just died and stays cool all the way to the left and the engine just started cutting out and dying and sometimes runs rough. On my engine I see 2 sensors, one on each side of the thermostat water neck and they look to have different connectors. Any Suggestions??

I've replaced the 1 your referring to,but I cant find the 1 that only has 1 wire coming off of it,I know its here somewhere cuz I bought the part....any information on that will be helpful and appreciated.
the temp sending unit is on the other side of the thermostat housing it looks almost identical but ony has one wire I believe his jeep only has one sensor but some have 2 one for the Guage and one for the ecu
I mentioned that in the description of this video if you do this with the engine cold you wont loose a drop of coolant. Done it this way on all 4 ZJs ive owned and never spilled coolant. And no Barricade is never low on coolant
@@barricadegarage5361 Sorry, I skipped the reading part. In didn't think you were low unless it was intentional. Cold engines ate hard to come by around here. Cool enough is usually the requirement. On a side note, I briefly had an oriellys temp sensor, it was 10 degrees higher..
Ya know how many years I've struggled with the part falling out of the socket.? All this time I've could've used a paper towel to keep it from falling.?

Ive already replace the thermostat with a lower temp one and new water pump all new hoses and gaskets connections are good which let me to the CTS but the parts store replacements are literally half the size as oem

Hi - it depends on your transfercase, with a np 249 quadratrac setup you will not lose horsepower, you will lose torque, since the viscous coupler is a torque biased device plus your park position stop working on the transmission since there is now artificially induced slip.On your however it should lock up quite quickly and you should not experience any further loss of torque That said not a good idea to remove front driveshaft on NP249 Quadratrac - you will end up shredding that very expensive viscous coupler. With the NP242 Selectrac - put it in 2wd high and forget about it or if the reason for removal is due to front differential issue, remove the drive shaft after putting it in 2WD high - no losses.
I changed my coolant temp sensor and thermostat in my 4.6L 07 Crown Vic....it’s still overheating, the fan is making a hard loud humming noise after a while then the car begins to overheat after 30-40 min of highway driving...What do I do next?
I do not believe thats is where the 5.9L sensor is i have looked in the location you have said and it is not there, mine is on the upper radiator hose by the air filter, and i have also seen another video and saw that I’m not the only one who’s sensor is in the location i just described
Oh ok I thought on the 5.9 the two on the rad hoses are thermoswitches for the e-fan, and there was one beside the t-sat housing for the dash gauge and the PCM

I dont think I can help you there but im sure someone familliar with that issue is on the ZJ forums.
Well, once again, something small and simple. Ended up being an accidental disconnect of a vacuum hose on the EGR.

@@smurfanderson1578you have the "bad solder connections" problem in your VIC. There is a lot of info about re-soldering this in the web.

All ZJs should have the connector as far as I know and its the coolant temp sensor connector
BARRICADE GARAGE : do you NOT have to use thread sealing tape on the threads of the sensor? I know on GMs and some other cars it is required
At 2:16 that white stuff on the new sensor is thread sealant. These OEM Mopar sensors come with it already and you do not add anything to it.

So, there is no + or - terminal, to match up when re-attaching the plug to the sensor?
My temperature gauge stays on cool the whole time is that due to my coolant temperature sensor being bad?

I have a 5.9L and the sensor was not in this location but was in a metal housing in between the top coolant line . is that normal?
Yes thats normal because the 5.9 used a E-Fan

Ive already replace the thermostat with a lower temp one and new water pump all new hoses and gaskets connections are good which let me to the CTS but the parts store replacements are literally half the size as oem

There are 2 sensors. The one You swaping is for ecu. There is one more to the left which is for temp gauge.
At least for prelift 93 to 95

My connector piece is a single prong and not double like the sensor.
Thats because the '96 and up have one 2 prong sensor. The 93-95 have 2 sensors

Hi - it depends on your transfercase, with a np 249 quadratrac setup you will not lose horsepower, you will lose torque, since the viscous coupler is a torque biased device plus your park position stop working on the transmission since there is now artificially induced slip.On your however it should lock up quite quickly and you should not experience any further loss of torque That said not a good idea to remove front driveshaft on NP249 Quadratrac - you will end up shredding that very expensive viscous coupler. With the
NP242 Selectrac - put it in 2wd high and forget about it or if the reason for removal is due to front differential issue, remove the drive shaft after putting it in 2WD high - no losses.

That’s so weird on my 93 grand Cherokee the temp sensor is on the other side of the thermostat much easier to get to
I changed my coolant temp sensor and thermostat in my 4.6L 07 Crown Vic....it’s still overheating, the fan is making a hard loud humming noise after a while then the car begins to overheat after 30-40 min of highway driving...What do I do next?

I do not believe thats is where the 5.9L sensor is i have looked in the location you have said and it is not there, mine is on the upper radiator hose by the air filter, and i have also seen another video and saw that I’m not the only one who’s sensor is in the location i just described
Oh ok I thought on the 5.9 the two on the rad hoses are thermoswitches for the e-fan, and there was one beside the t-sat housing for the dash gauge and the PCM
