This summary teaches almost nothing and it's pretty awkward that people looking to learn how to tell a story will willingly skip the guy telling a story... because it's too long. If you do that as the would-be storyteller, imagine how the listener will feel. There's not only things to learn in the delivery but lots of minor points not included in this summary.
for the people in a hurry 😜 1. you want to take the listener on the same emotional journey that you experienced 2. every story needs a near constant element of mystery to keep the listeners engaged 3. You need to know the purpose behind your story...What is the audience supposed to take away from your story?
Well that's just a rhetoric arms race. Millions of people with great story-telling abilities, but no great stories to tell because they never pay attention themselves. Sounds great, when do we leave?
One of the biggest problems that I face when telling a story is that I often end up starting many different mini stories 😅 and in the end forget to complete my original story. This video was amazing. I will definitely work on it!
I've been trying out my storytelling skills I've been learning from these videos by grabbing and holding the attention of my mom brother and wife. I have found its been really helpful to try it out on them and reviewing were I lost their attention, grabbed attention, what made them laugh. It's gonna be a fun journey to mastering storytelling
THANK YOU. As someone who is socially inept, when I look up "how to get better at talking" all I see online is literally "get better at listening". I genuinely have problems telling coherent stories and actually needed help with this, of course people do need to listen more but nobody tells you how to tell stories better.
I love that you highlighted Scott Harrison. The story about the young woman and her broken water vessel was so impactful on its own. But he followed it up with action which must have been amazing to the people in that community. That fullness and action is really rare and why Scott and Charity Water are exceptional.
I can't remember a RUclips video that has moved me this much. I came here for lessons in storytelling and left with all kinds of emotions. Thank You!!!!
You are easily manipulated. If you listen closely to the story he says she hung herself after walking miles while her girlfriends were with her. BS. No girl who walks miles for water carries a rope with her and no female is going to let another female kill herself in such a way.
i can't thank you enough for these videos. i'm learning social skills i never gained through formal education, my family members nor my social networks. you give such an articulate commentary that makes sense of key takeaway points and it's helping me to apply these lessons to my own life. i'm ready to secure this job!
It's crazy you said this because I said to my wife at the beginning of the video this guy knows loads for kid! But he's thirty!!! five years older than me! What anti wrinkle cream is he using!!!
I also love the way Scott says “when a guy like you has a birthday” Scott’s not insecure.. he points out the greatness of who he’s speaking too without it making himself feel less! You can feel he genuinely feels that way! Makes the person he’s speaking to feel important which immediately makes you like Scott more!
As a psychotherapist, I can say this with authetication that "negative emotions" creates more impact on our psychology and they are far stronger emotions than the positive ones. 🔥
I haven't watched the video yet, but just gotta say that I loooooove that you interviewed Scott Harrison, because I also admire his storytelling abilities so much. I was really amazed when I realized I just watched a 30min ad on RUclips and it made me become a regular donator. I never watch ads. But gotta say I'd watch this all over again, because it was so well told and so charismatic from the very first seconds, and I wanna learn how to do that. He could've literally sold me anything 😂
Not only how to tell such a stories that I got from this video, It touched me to hear my own mother's story being told. I am Ethiopian and these types of stories are true.
Charisma on Command: I can't afford $30 at this point in time, but this video really reached me. So what I can do, what I have done, is my best to share it with many other people in a meaningful way, and at least a few of them will check it out, and if not contribute, then share it along themselves. It's the least I can do, so I tried to be my best as I did it.
There is a lot to be said about "Master Storytelling". This is beautiful. Can you feel the authenticity and true emotions? The truth is that authentic stories evoke genuine emotions. When the characters and situations resonate with the audience's own experiences, it can trigger a more profound emotional response. Authenticity creates a sense of truth that enhances the emotional impact of the story.
I'm early so maybe you will see this comment. I, as well as probably many other subscribers love to read educational books about these topics since there is mostly much more to it than can be discussed in a 10 minute video. It would be amazing if you could share some books with us at the end of every video for those that want to learn more. Keep up the great work!
Our identity is a story, our nations are stories, our brands are stories, our history is a story, and so on. We instinctively edit our experiences in our minds, turn them into memories and extract meanings and emotions from them. Conventional storytelling mediums (TV, films, books, songs) are neat material packages of the same mental process we do in our heads all the time. Tell the best story, take the best meaning from it, and life becomes a whole lot rosier.
Why did i want to cry throughout this video, i would have if i wasn't on a tight deadline and cannot risk the domino effects of it. Listening as I prepare to write a compelling story and presentation of my leadership journey. This was powerful! i love the idea of donating your birthday and I'm definitely replicating it.
I have been known for my speaking ability, however though I was never known for my storytelling ability, but ever since I came this fascinating art of storytelling, I have begun to take notes and start using the technics of storytelling. I must say, the results have been overwhelmingly surprising and continue to deliver amazing results. All I had to do was just one thing, I just had to change one thing to change the whole perspective of storytelling.
I've noticed that telling a great story is much like writing a narrative paper. Make a claim as to what the story is about and follow the story's main climaxes with cliffhangers in between whereas you will eventually reach a resolution/the meaning of the story. The only difference is hand movements and voice variations.
Happy belated birthday! I'm too broke to give to charity, but I do volunteer work to give back. An added bonus is that I've gotten to meet a lot of good people.
I loved the way this story was shared. It got me thinking how privileged we are and how much of a difference one act of kindness can make. Thank you for sharing this.
I am touched, moved & inspired by your video! I have never heard of Charity Water until now and I am thrilled to dedicate my Birthday to such a beautiful cause! Thank you for not only sharing the importance of story-telling, moreover, speaking about #CharityWater.
This is why I'm sticking with you Charlie. You choose to focus on people like Scott Harrison. You're teaching more than just competence in human interaction. Story is what binds us on a real human level, it underpins every single art form and as you say, it's also relevant in business and science. What makes the difference is which stories we choose to tell.
Charlie you are a legend. I really admire and appreciate you teaching charisma while also exposing us to Charity: Water through the stories Scott Harrison shares. These were the most valuable 15 minutes of my day.

Hi, I was so excited to get the notification that you're doing a piece on Master Story Telling. But I can you please redo one about story telling? Because I really feel that this is just extremely bias towards the water crisis. There's very little in terms of tangible concepts that I can latch onto and practice.
Hey, thanks a lot for the tips; I really appreciate that you take the time to share your insights--especially in regards to effective social interactions. It's taken me up to now to to notice just how much I, as well as others connected to me, have grown and benefit from your contributions. I hadn't even noticed at first, but it has been steadily gradual and it continues. I've run into some resentment from a lot of people. This isn't something that would normally bother me, but it's tough when it's on the behalf of superiors at work. Subtly, they have been working to take me down. They mostly resent the fact that many of the woman are fond of me. Each of my superiors have little to no experience with woman. One of them (the head supervisor), at 29 years of age, has only been with one woman ever. The others share a similar experience. Anyway, since they've arrived to replace the previous management, I've been getting write-up after write-up. It's a scary situation! After some years of homelessness, I have really turned my life around working this job: complete with loving and trusting family/friends. It's been wonderful to be able to be there for them; to contribute so much laughter, security, and adventure. I really don't care about the women at all! I just want to preserve and improve upon what I have/am now: for myself as well as others. So if you have any insights into and/or tips in how to navigate the workplace under such conditions (with resentments from above), I'd really appreciate a video on it specifically. I've looked through your channel to see if you had any: I may have missed it. If so, perhaps you could provide the link to me directly. Thanks again. Great health and great fortune to you!
This video is great. Thank you, Charlie. This video made me cry, hearing the story that the guy told about the girl. My next birthday - which is my 24th birthday on the 23rd of July, I'm donating to Charity Water! I've never heard about this company or anyone doing anything else like this before and I wish I did hear it before because I'm incredibly grateful for everything in my life and I don't need anything else, so I'm donating my birthday so people can give money to people that will appreciate more than I would!
I came to learn how to tell story's and I end up hearing the saddest facts about my country. It broke my heart so much but at the same time I am great full for your generosity.
I use this strategy on pitch decks. Through storyboarding out a deck using whiteboard software, I'm able to identify the critical points and then organize them to ensure the story keeps the reader hooked.
story telling is important especially for me as a design student. thank you for this video because i'm learning more about good story telling than my years in school 👍
Some of the best stories I've ever heard were at a pub having a pint. You'd be surprised how many people go just to he heard, to be listened to and I believe that sometimes that is one important service you can give to others. Lend them your ears, share a beer and you'd be surprised what amazing stories you will hear.
Thank you for reminding me that I have the power to save a life today, and for putting me in touch with the ability to do it. For your birthday, you have given me a gift.
I am in love with your channel and watching your videos! I should be honest with you and saying that I don't watch every video, because sometimes its can be too much of a psychology, but when I do, I understand how simply helpful and genius is your idea of this channel and the effort for every single video, that you did and continue to do! Huge thank you! I have a little idea and would like to share it with you: a good storytelling its always useful thing, but how about a short conversation, where you have minimum time, but you also need to tell a story or saying how are you doing. Unfortunately, almost 90 % of today conversations with people going just through "how are you doing? Good, and you? Me too". So if you could do like a few videos about short talking, i would definitely watch it !;) have a blessed day, Polli🌻
Giving money is nice, but it is also good to solve what problems we can fix. One example: Some volunteers from our church built a cistern by hand for a people group in the mountains of Honduras. If you can help, then find an outreach team and go. If you can’t go, then equip and send. Thank you! 🙂
Absolutely agree! The power of storytelling is immense-it can create connections that elevate us in every aspect of life. I’ve found that when I share personal stories, especially those that resonate emotionally, it makes interactions more memorable. Sometimes, it’s daunting to share deeper, heavier stories, but that’s where the magic happens. I realized through the Sense of Humor Improvement Program by Habit10x that humor can also be woven into storytelling, lightening tough topics. The key is to engage authentically and leave your audience with a meaningful lesson. Keep honing those storytelling skills; they truly transform interactions!
May God bless the families of the 2 young girls who lost their lives. Tragic ends that ultimately led to others being blessed by the retelling of their stories.
I hesitated on clicking this one. The word Story is SO over used in media. I'm going to tell the story of this wedding... I'm going to tell the story of how this car was made... I'm going to blah, blah, blah story this and story that and story the other thing. But this video is an exception. Stories that are truly stories, are created. They are crafted. They have parts that make up a whole and they are not simply a documentation of a time or place. True stories have purpose and momentum and twists and a payoff. Well done on this one. Thanks for illustrating true craft and construction of story.
Happy Birthday. Don't feel bad about turning 30, you seem to have accomplished so much already. I turned 30 last year and during that time I knew people who were younger than me griping about turning 25, 26, etc. meanwhile I was happy with what I'd accomplished so far and happy about where my life is headed. Now if I was 30 and had nothing to show for it then that would be a different story....
Amazing guest, amazing video, amazing story, amazing purpose, amazing content (as usual) you're doing a really fine job and you have a some razor sharp observation, I'll give you that
Charlie, if there is a better way for me to contact you, forgive me for not using it. This is the only way I knew to let you know that you are in my prayers in the wake of the Las Vagas shooting yesterday. (I think you said in a video -- maybe this one -- that you live in Vegas.) How were you impacted? Did you have friends who were victims? In short, how can I pray for you?

at 6:23 "Point being, at the end of your stories, don't just leave people hanging" - that's a really sick pun
Some of the best stories I've ever heard were at a pub having a pint. You'd be surprised how many people go just to he heard, to be listened to and I believe that sometimes that is one important service you can give to others. Lend them your ears, share a beer and you'd be surprised what amazing stories you will hear.
wait what? You turn 30? you look young for your age! very very young!
Thank you for reminding me that I have the power to save a life today, and for putting me in touch with the ability to do it. For your birthday, you have given me a gift.
Gordon Ramsay charisma breakdown for charisma under pressure and problem solving !
Turning 21 in 2 weeks I'm totally donating my birthday. This is an awesome idea I love it. Happy early Birthday Charlie!
Do you feel los Bering 21? I'll be 21 next year and in the middle of an existential crisis?
~ Appreciate it Aurora! Happy birthday :-)
is that the photoshop brush on the thumbnail? Might want to get rid of it
Noticed that too hahahah
LMAO he's fixing up his face

That video offers so much insight about storytelling, and the best about it is it's digging deeper than small talk or flirting.
Appreciate the kind words! Also, thanks for the suggestion - we'll add this to the list. :-)
You should do one on why you're videos are so good. Seriously, having trouble capturing an audience, you guys are great
You should do a breakdown on (hasan minhaj)’s storytelling skills , HE’s THE BEST I PROMISE
I cant help but dislike him. I dont know why.
Also trevor noah too
Giving money is nice, but it is also good to solve what problems we can fix.
One example:
Some volunteers from our church built a cistern by hand for a people group in the mountains of Honduras.
If you can help, then find an outreach team and go. If you can’t go, then equip and send. Thank you!
🙂
Excellent techniques for a language classroom.
A good cause too, loved the content.
~ Thanks! Glad you're loving the content :-)
It’s actually interesting watching him in a social setting, would love to see him at a party ahah.
May God bless the families of the 2 young girls who lost their lives.
Tragic ends that ultimately led to others being blessed by the retelling of their stories.
New video from charisma on command 😱 best birthday present ever!!
Baron Sackey happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, Baron! Make it a good one.
Baron Sackey happy birthday🤘
Happy Birthday Man!
If we don’t have a problem we don’t need a solution. This is gold!
6:26 I understood that reference!
Communicating in general is difficult today because of the effects of social media.
I think my heart just broke.
He is such a great storyteller. Makes me cry everytime.
YES exactly what need! Thank you so much! ♥️♥️
~ Thanks for watching!
My birthday is in a month and you just gave me the solution I didn't know I've been searching for
Great video! Can you please do a breakdown on Dave Chappelle (humour)?
Amazing guest, amazing video, amazing story, amazing purpose, amazing content (as usual) you're doing a really fine job and you have a some razor sharp observation, I'll give you that
Charlie, if there is a better way for me to contact you, forgive me for not using it. This is the only way I knew to let you know that you are in my prayers in the wake of the Las Vagas shooting yesterday. (I think you said in a video -- maybe this one -- that you live in Vegas.) How were you impacted? Did you have friends who were victims? In short, how can I pray for you?
He probably doesn't believe in god.
Maybe, BigTownBiwwy. I don't know, but that doesn't need to stop me from praying for him. Thanks.
Seems no one is listening to statements here. A let down.
Thanks for this. I love making Storytime videos and I think it’s a great skill to learn how to explain my experiences better
I'd love a video on Gustavo Fring from Breaking Bad.
Woaahh.... I was about to cry... Really I need to master story telling.
Should break down Joey Diaz stand up stories if you want to talk about story telling
