The Season 5 additions of Vaughn and Eddie Velez as Frankie Santana were an attempt in saving the show which was moved from the Tuesday night spot in which they had dominated to Friday nights alongside the popular Miami Vice. By the end of 1986, the show had ended its run (even though a unaired episode was aired in March 1987) and the new format of them working for the government was a dud to most fans.
In the first and halfway through the second season, they had a reporter named Amy Allen (Melinda Culea) who would help them on their missions. Through the rest of season two and the season three episode "The Bend In The River", they had Tawnia Baker (Marla Heasley), another reporter who helped in their missions. George Peppard (Hannibal) argued against having a female character on the show because it was a distraction which led to not having a female lead role on the show.
By the time the show was entering Season 4, Mr. T had acheived icon status, and Peppard was becoming irritated at his popularity, having been a established actor. So, Peppard would avoid Mr. T and made similar demands such as getting his friends Jack Ging to play Gen. Fullbright and Robert Vaughn to play Gen. Stockwell in Season 5 to counteract to the guest appearances through Mr. T's connections (Hulk Hogan, William "Refrigerator" Perry, etc.)
