For those who think moving countries is a good idea, make sure you travel to that destination often and do longer stays and see how you feel before you make that full commitment.
Sometimes you have the traveling bug and you think the destination you travel to is somewhere you want to be long term, but its nothing more than the traveling high.

It's also worth noting your size and habits compared to the country. There's absolutely NO WAY I could live in Japan purely because of how tall I am.

If this house was located in downtown Tokyo, monthly rent would be easily over $10,000. Location is everything for real estate value.

As the sign says, this is in Kamishizu, Sakura City, about 40 km away from the center of Tokyo, where land is cheap and it takes more than an hour by train.
If you wanted to rent a house of the same grade as this house in the center of Tokyo, that would be impossible with $10,000 per month.

She had an apartment there that was TINY, maybe the size of both of your bedrooms combined. Her parents home is homey, but has a tiny kitchen, no garage, no central heating, no clothes dryer, no dishwasher, no a lot of what you have in your house. Your place would be a dream home. What my cousin did when he moved to proper Tokyo almost 20 years ago with his Japanese born wife was start his own translation and English teaching business. That gave him enough credentials, back then, for both of them to be able to purchase a house. Fast forward those ~20 years and he was able to be apart of The Mandalorian show translation team, which was super neat. He also worked on the Ninja Gaiden team for a few years back in the day.
    -------
I know it is different for you, as you kind of stated you aren't fluent in Japanese.
But it appears there is always a need for help with the English language in some way or another, and maybe you can also capitalize on that.
Anyways, thank you for sharing some personal life information! Wish you and your wife a happy life!!

At 5:19 that sink being right at the edge of a high traffic area will lead to some wicked paw drifting when little splashes of water fall to the floor. Make sure your wife has setup your medical and dental plan in Japan. From experience, a well stocked first-aid kit is also a good idea with a couple of ice packs in the freezer. So jelly on your find! That's one thing I love about Japan, the NIMBYs don't really exist so you can build some EPIC homes in established neighbourhoods. That garage layout with the gallery window is so sweet.

High level windows will encourage stack ventilation during summer. With a downstairs window open, hot air will go out the high windows (air buoyancy) and draw cool fresh air come in through lower level. This gives you a great draft through the house. Been looking for inspiration in house design and this is maybe my favorite template to start from. Absolutely love the house, especially the exterior. Whether the architect intended it or not, it’s a great balance of affordability, security, and safety while also being extremely pleasant

Oh ya... aku sering pesan gula jawa ke pak ganjar pranowo setiap hari natal. Gula jawa itu minuman kegemaranku sejak pindah ke jogja.

This is one of the best houses I have seen in Japan. I lived there for 9 1/2 years and I paid more for a lot less when I was there. This was during my time in the Navy.

The small windows near the ceiling can let out the hot air that rises in the summer. ❤ The rest of the room will be cooler. You see these on Victorian houses. When I rented one, that's what the landlord told us.
