I watched this series several times. And I don't believe that BoRa has the worst character here. Sung family situation were explained in so many ways, even Sung DongIl (father) explained why Bora grew up like that and alot didn't remember why IlHwa (mother) has faith of BoRa's affection to her siblings. I grew up with 3 older siblings, we have complicated relationships even now that we're older. Our environment, circumstances, upbringing, etc.,. Made us who we are today. BoRa is neither rude nor spoiled -- she grew up with her parents as they were first-time parents. While she was learning to walk, her mom is pregnant again and when she was about to go to school, they were having NoEul. The attention were not given to her so what their parents can do is make sure she's not crying nor upset, so they could also care for their other children. The father has to work and the mother is swamped with houseworks and babies to care for -- BoRa was left to her own devices since she was seen as capable and intelligent child. My sister was like that, my mom believes that her eldest is mature and smart -- how terrifying it was for a 6yo to go to her Kindergarten alone bcos her mom is taking care of her 2month old baby sister, plus 2 rowdy 2 and 4yo boys. And I want to add.. the dominant and loud personality of BoRa probably resulted of being neglected. Imagine you are this kid who needs another bowl of rice but your baby sister is crying bcos she cut herself and your baby bro joined that crying bcos he heard someone's upset and felt a disturbance in the air. The eldest who now can talk try to be as loud as she could be heard without thinking that her sister is hurt and her baby bro is getting hungry from crying. Thinking noone heard you so you started stomping your feet and throw things to be noticed.
You explained this so well. I am actually crying right now because I relate so much to this. I am an eldest daughter with 3 younger siblings and growing up I have never once think of asking for help to my parents when I always come across any problems plus I was seen as an intelligent child who can take care of herself at a young age, so that’s probably why I am hyper-independent it’s the result of it.
