thanks to you and Seth ive been hooked on biking again, im a "retired" bmx racer and rode mtb for 2 years after i quit bmx. Around 10 years later, after binging your and Seth`s vids first summer last year and this winter and getting way too stoked, i bought a bmx racer again late summer and had a nasty crash, now ive just bought a used GT fury 2014 and is going to start riding mtb again. my heart says: thanks my body says: oh no not again my wallet doesnt say anything, had to mute that guy. keep up the good work phil! love from Norway
svetterdu sounds just like me man... rode dirt jump n race bmx from a kid to high skool, quit and now 17 years later last year bought a used DH mtb and I'm loving it. Jumping is slowly coming back, but crashing as a fat 36 year old hurts way worse than all the broken bones and crashes I had as a kid.
Similar story here- bmx and freestyle in 80s, mountain biking in 90s (I remember seeing RockShox the first time and being like WTF??). Then Rugby took over my life for a long time. Retired from Rugby and got back into mountain biking. Don’t go as big or as fast as used to, and now I do have a little voice that says “take it easy numnut you have a good paying job and a wife and kid now.” But at 48 I still get after it, just on my terms now. Advice- stay away from the clock- that includes Stravo- the uber competitive gene never dies, but we can more easily now (and if we don’t die we break a lot more easily). 🤘to Norway from the USA.
PHIL!!!! Thanks for all the great stuff. Your videos are fantastic and you are a great person! I work at 99 Bikes in Australia and everyone I know at work watches your vids! Always recommend your stuff to kids who come in looking for some inspiration. Shuckas my man 🤙🏻
Did the race organizers put any limitations of what GoPro gear you could strap to yourself? Our provincial cycling body doesn't allow GoPros on the body for safety reasons.
Phil you make all us north Easter’s proud. Great runs. And I hope one day you will come down to Brandon and ride, there are a lot of places here in vt to I would love to see you bring attention to. Thanks for being such an awesome ambassador for my biking and inspiration to the youth of our sport that’s what make you so special. My boys don’t look up to a lot of people but they sure like you. Thank you.
wow! this video is amayzing! the way you hope to avoid those rocks, how tight you cut trough turns and the flow trough those jumps! im really glad you put that video up! it really makes your "how to" and "skillz" videos all make sence now :P those video where you show how to do or andle certain things are nice but then seen you apply them in competition situation is freaking magnificent! thanks again for that vid! :)
Phil when the start of the stage and there counting you down at the start of a stage, why sometimes do people go on 3 other times wait till the end of the count.
Holy crap dude you were 34 out of probably 50 full time competitors, and presumably off the couch. I'd seriously consider adding about 5-50 lbs for a course like that, and a 56t chain ring and some pursuit bars.
Hi Phil, This might be out of topic. I just wanted help. I have Santa Cruz Heckler. I haven't been in the USA. Are shipping, tax and duties are charge to when claiming the frame warranty(less than 5 years since bought)? Anyway, thank you for the reply.
Walker shaw, I raced against him quite regularly in Collegiate racing. Most of the time I'd beat him in a downhill situation but if it was pedally he can be hard to touch. He's one of the best all around riders I know.
Phil. What a great video. It was a pleasure to meet you in SD. You are definitely improving - awesome run. i heard at the end of the video somebody got 2 flat. WTF ?
Dakota norton got a 2 min flat, I'm good friends with him and I'm pumped to see him killing it these days. He was bested though, walker shaw got a 1:58. Funny enough walker, Dakota and I all raced in the same collegiate conference (SECCC)
So I'm kind of a newbie in the MTB world and I love watching your videos, along with other RUclipsrs. I've never downhill raced before, but this GoPro view makes it look like you're going 100mph. About what speeds are you actually moving?
At least 100mph! Haha, no the fastest I've gone in a race is probably 45mph, which feels fast given the context. Here, I say I was going 35mph at the fastest part
@@SkillsWithPhil that's pretty fast. Way too fast for my skill level. I live in Phoenix and just watched your video when you rode in Sedona. I still haven't made it up there to ride, but it's coming. Thanks for the awesome content.
It's sea otter, that's the "downhill". It's a bit of a joke but it's a fun way to start the season, but in no way does this actually compare to a real course
If you haven't seen my bike check you can check that out here ➡ ruclips.net/video/8ysyUofLIXc/видео.html
Cool!
Excellent video and great run!
Hey great ride. Was that the Hero7 with no gimbal?
That was fucking epic dude! You're the reason I'm selling my motorcycle!

You should consider renaming the channel to Phil with skills
Connor Halpin great idea
I had the race nerves in my stomach just watching this from back when I used to race
Solid run man!

Yewwww! I work at 99 bikes castle hill in Sydney
That's sick. I go to one in Brisbane all the time
@@jjmann58 One in the City!
The sound when you are floating through the air is Mint!!
There is a lot of non DH in that DH run
Dis is da goal man, an enduro race on dh trail
Kiki Alspaugh the sea otter is always like this. a lot of ppl do it on Enduro bikes
I came to see you crush that corner that tripped up Blake and Daily MTB. You didn't disappoint.
That looked so dusty and slippy that my computer chairs wheels slipped out just watching it!
Nicely done! You forgot your flipper noise though ;)
Yeah I noticed that! Shucks, I tried using RUclips's editor to censor it out.
Got to love those Silent Hubs.
This is EXACTLY why I subscribe to this channel!
Silent hubs?!! Music to my ears! 👍👍👍🔥 Epic job! 👏

The noise of the tires when on the limit 😍
I'd love to participate in this race! They even have a hardtail category as well. Course looks super smooth and flowy, despite being a loose surface.

That looks like so much fun bro! It’s a treat to get to watch this from your perspective!

What I'm wondering is what place he got
So awesome to see you back on the track!
Love that silent hub
A Miley interesting thing I found is that the wheel speed is synced with the frame rate so the brake rotor seems to stop completely
I just got 4th in a DH race on my trail bike. 🤙 Totally knew it was doable cuz, Phil will send anything on a trail bike.
And the Best Quote of 2019 goes to....
🏆
Good to see you back Phill
I hate clicking on a Phil video because I can’t stop watching
Damm, that was fun Phil!
My god that was intense! Nice job man! I was holding on for dear life! lol
Awesome job Phil. It'd be great to see you do more downhill racing again
East coast represented, nice run Phil!
Pretty sick run mate
It looked so brutal at the end of the course with the sand. Just see the speed being sucked away
Thrills with Phil. Sweet man! Needs more rocks though- gnar baby!
Phil, do you ride clipped in? Also, what are you using to capture the video? Thanks!
Awesom run, man That was really cool, good to have short videos closer to 5 minutes.
you still got the fitness for a such a race well done phil
Damn, Phil. If I could ride like that I'd be putting my runs on Y'toob too! Great job.
2:08, not bad man! this was and awesome run!
Sick video Phil. You’re a beast.

My goal is set after watching this thanks for the inspiration man . Keep turnin and burnin nice race.
Great runs, first one he hurt something appearantly...
could be wrong.... but i think he was commenting on how much effort he put into the run. So much it hurt? got a cramp? out of breath? idk.
Awesome job Phil!
I have a question is anyone able to compete in these sea otter events and what events did they have like XC enduro and downhill?
Sorry, where was the downhill part? :)

Man! You were flying!
You didn't say how you did. What place did you get??
awesome run phil!
Good ride, really neat. Like the bike, first GT to look good in my eyes.
That... is one flat DH Track. Good thing you were on an enduro rig.
A hell of a lot more pedalling in DH than i thought
Awesome perspective.i was sitting at the tape on jump three
That was a beautiful rip! Those flat sections looked exhausting.
loved seeing your run
Rock on Phil!
Holy moly, you were ripping! Nice job Phil!
hey phil you probs wont anser but how do you like the grip 2 damper?
Nicely done!!
Great Race !
Nice run phil
What camera were you using?🤔
A bit different than platty huh ?
Your run was sick but the dude who nailed it in 2 mins flat...what planet was he from? Awesome ride along ✌️

Nice run. On an unrelated note. Do you have any tips for scrubbing jumps with out going otb. I tried and went otb.
Practice
I saw that you had the dhr 2 f/r...thats what I have but wondering your opinion on them as both front and rear tires
Nicely done. After racing it on the hardtail, I would have loved to try it on my GT Sanction.
Can you make a video about this exact setup ?
So what place did you come in?
Nice blazing fast runs. Nicely done.
Thats fast as hell man... Good job.
Great runs!
Well done Phil.
Super awesome job man. Hopefully I'll be competing soon. Who knows might see ya next year there.
Those runs looked perfect but somehow, the top guy beat Phil by like 8 seconds. How is it even possible to shave 8 seconds off from a run like Phil's?
That trail ASMR tho
Haha, the only ASMR that matters!
Phil did you have a gimbal on ?!?!?!
Wow! Nice run! 👍👍
dude you are flying!
is this dual salom?

Full Send! Nice man
He's gone to plaid!
i swear every mint condition gt always sounds loud and flogged even tho it isn't
Still got it!!! My man
Are you going to be getting a fury? If yes are you going to race it?
I have one. Yes I will, but I'm not racing full time, just for fun here and there.

damn smooth run sir
A lot of pedalling for a downhill race... Sort of a mini-enduro, lol. Is that why you said "this is going to suck"?
Yeah we can it downhill but the a better term for this would be a super D course. It's basically a single leg of an enduro stage.
GT bikes suit you bro. You killed this run! Have you raced here before in your downhill race days?
Yeah, actually got 13th here in 2011 on a downhill bike haha! That was a long time ago!
good effort!
sad he’s sub 750 thousand subscribers, he deserves a lot more. keep up the good work though, Phil
Once he gets on his uploading grind after cleaning his plate he’ll make it there in no time compared to what he’s at right now
Wow I thought the video was sped up
Downhill course? I think you could ride this on a hardtail
It's sea otter, that's the "downhill". It's a bit of a joke but it's a fun way to start the season, but in no way does this actually compare to a real course
nice run Phil! It's gotta be a little unnerving making runs like that on a bike you dont have a feel for.
man you where pinned! I got tired just watching hahah, great job!
nice riding
