You made his point, Aj'a Wilson was and is a better all around Basketball player than Clark. However, social media has made more noise for Caitlin Clark because of her style of play. CC wouldn't be as popular if she wasn't white that's real. Those records they say she broke, especially Pistol Pete's. Remember, he didn't have the 3 point shot, and he set that record in 3 years at LSU. Media never mentions that.

For Catlin, her coach allowing her to play that style of ball is new to the women game. Not that other players couldn't play like her, but no other woman has played her style of ball before. Then you add the moments she took advantage of even in an L, which led to her popularity. And time progresses, and so do the rules, so no one cares if there were no three pointers in the old days. She still broke the record.
Why did Black people start watching golf.. Tiger woods was a Black man who dominated a sport that was dominated by white men. Therefore the draw of Black viewers. The same is true for Clark and the draw of white fans. Missed the point.

She become EXTRA popular because she became political and was all over Fox News and other right wing political outlets because she was white and taunted back after taking a huge L in the championship. She was a great player who talked crap and got responded to on camera. The majority of these new fans who never watched the sport before would have no clue who she was if it wasn't for that. If no one tried to make Angel Reese out to be a thug for doing the same thing that Caitlin Clark does all game this wouldn't be a huge story. There have been many GREAT white women players that were ignored by the masses because they didn't have something like that to bring them all of this attention.
Andrew made the perfect point. Clark shoots from way down town! Womes basketball is boring because everything they do is a slower, less athletic version of mens basketball. Being a female that can shoot is the best possible way to bridge that gap between the two
That's not true. Women are less athletic than men, but they're still pretty quick and with the smaller ball, they got great handles. Caitlin doesn't even looks like the best two way player on her team

Recently, a controversy involved in the disparity in endorsement pay between Serena Williams ($13 million) and Maria Sharapova ($23 million) hit a place where the debate is always respectful and reasonable: Twitter.
The argument goes that since Serena is so much better on the court than Sharapova, she deserves more money from companies, a belief so deluded and so at odds with everything we know about sports, entertainment and business that it boggles the mind. (Meryl Streep is the best actress, how dare she not get salary of a Jennifer Lawrence!)
And then the topic quickly turned to race, with the suggestion that Serena doesn’t earn more because she’s black, something that Michael Jordan, the all-time biggest sports endorser, and Tiger Woods, the most apt comparison to Serena (non-white star dominating a traditionally white sport), surely would scoff at.

Sabrina ionescu is a great shooter and a walking triple double. Didn’t get as much attention as Clark did. Both white. I think it’s bc in part of her play style but mostly bc she’s the white hope against the bully’s. (Black women). Right wing extremist will use/root for political reasons.

Clark was hyped for a couple of months in college and marketing agencies jumped on it. There really isnt much more to it. She went viral and all the roaches came out of their holes and tried to benefit off of it. Once that hype dies down, again noone will talk about let alone watch WNBA games.

And let’s not forget Pearl Moore, a female college player who still has the highest scoring record. She scored 4,061 points in 135 games from 1975-1979. Keep in mind that this was done before the 3 pointer line existed. Oh, and she was only 5’5.🙂↔️
The point is, every 10 years TV networks and corporations with common interests try to push a new sport, a new league, for instance women's basketball. And for over 25 years the WNBA has failed to gain traction and chances are it will continue to do so. There is only so much sports the mainstream audience can watch, and female leagues in typical men sports just dont make the cut. In Tennis it works, and I assume that's because it's not as obvious how much worse female tennis players are compared to the men counterparts. But in basketball it's immediately obvious. At the end of the day, there is just a few women who want to push the WNBA because of (misled) understanding of emancipation, for the most part, it's other people wanting to create a new stream of revenue.

Caitlin isn't Jeremy Lin, she's Larry Bird. It was Bird/Caitlin vs Magic/Reese, White Indiana St/Iowa. vs Black Michigan St/LSU. Then it was Fundamentally sound Bird Celtics/Caitlin Indiana (read white) vs Magic/Reese Flashy Lakers/Chicago (read Black).

No one was watching so why would Aja get a shoe deal. She wasn't in demand. Clark brought eyes to the sport, and she's in demand, which equals shoe deal. Aja has more eyes NOW, and she had people champion for her. Clark is fun to watch. Aja's game looks like other wnba bigs. I do think Clarks race plays a part, but her talent is the major part. Kelsey and Sabrina can hoop, but their not shooting from where she shoots from.

Look here is the uncomfortable truth Jeremy Lin, Tiger Woods, Arena Williams and CC are MORE marketable bc they dominate at a sport people who look like them usually don't dominate or even play.
Trust and believe if there were a black or brown hockey player as exciting as Connor Mcadavid or Austin Mathews drawing bigger crowds in their own than the rest of the sport the NHL rightfully so push that person to an even larger audience. In turn that extra exposure brings more money to the sport which puts more money in all the players pockets.
