On July 27th, we set out for a day-trip down south towards the area of Illinois's capital. The weather was excellent, and rail action lined up that day was about to get busy. In fact, we got to see a wider variety of rail action than we thought!
From Amtrak trains to loaded feed units, this video will tell a detailed story of our experience trackside during our trip.

Good to see the Roadrailers still running..... They are always "supposedly" within mere months of discontinuance! I was last down that way in late May and there were no Roadrailers being that it was a Sunday.
255 is the only one that runs through Illinois on Sundays, but it could have either been early or late that day out of Detroit Oakwood the night before.
@@LewisMarien I think they skip a day, but maybe that day is Monday? Makes sense if there is no Sunday departure out of Detroit.
both sets are scheduled to depart their terminals outside of Detroit and Kansas City on Aug 24-25 for the last time
Hopefully I'll be able to make it down there to see one of the last ones running
Sorry you had a slow day in Jacksonville..
@@Arty0880 I definitely enjoyed that area, and will hopefully be back for more soon. It felt like a mini earthquake there too! 😂
at 11:00 ADM must have a pretty good sized rail yard to take that many empties
ADMs grain processing plan in Decatur is insanely massive. They use so much electricity they require their own coal-fired power plant. They have their own rail yard operated by Railserve in addition to being served around the clock by CN and NS.
That mural at McLean is great. I miss going to the arcade/pinball museums there.
Trailer cars
Fantastic, well-rounded outing! Going to put Jacksonville on our list.
@@TitanTrainSpotter Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video. Fun day of railfanning.
@@barbaraflint6640 Thanks!
I'm not sure if you'd be interested but maybe you could come down the Mount Vernon Illinois sometime it's not really too busy and it's kind of slow you kind of have to be here at the right time but I mean there's a diamond here and it is somewhat loud
I know where that disclosed location is.
Excellent video! A nice assortment of trains.
@@Whitejacket1 Thanks!
