The Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959-60 and 1964-1987. Unlike a standard pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from the standard two-door Chevrolet station wagon platform and integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body.
Introduced in the 1959 model year in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero coupé utility, its first run, based on the Biscayne's B-body, lasted only two years. Production resumed for the 1964-1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform, and continued for the 1978-1987 model years based on the GM G-body platform.
Although based on corresponding General Motors car lines, the vehicle is classified in the United States as a pickup.[1] GMC's badge engineered El Camino variant, the Sprint, was introduced for the 1971 model year. Renamed Caballero in 1978, it was also produced through the 1987 model year.
The 1965 El Camino received the same facelift as the 1965 Chevelle, with a more pronounced V-shaped front end, and a higher performance L79 version of the 327 engine rated at 350 hp (261 kW) that was also available in Chevelles. Most of the other engines were carried over from 1964, including the 194 and 230 cubic-inch Turbo Thrift sixes, the 195 hp (145 kW) 283 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8 and 327 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8s of 250 and 300 hp (186 and 224 kW).
This is so ironic; I'm working on a 65 El Camino right now. It's all original --- Factory Corvette 327, 4 speed, 12 bolt differential, black with red interior, bucket seats and four speed. Best part is there is VERY little rust --- it was in a barn for over 30 years in the lower desert. So now I have to get this model and clone the big one........... Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
This a very nice kit. Even with the limited chassis detail, it builds into a very nice looking model. You did a great job building this one. Love the color choices. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice kit. I like the review. I have the 80's El Camino camper kit, I got rid of the 6 cylinder engine and put in a 350 Chevy motor out of my parts box. Used the car for a camping diorama. Keep up the great work, Chris.
I had fun adding my own ideas to a model. Around 1975 I remember I took parts from a 4x4 pickup truck model and turned a van into a 4x4 van. I also took the rear axles off of a semi truck model and put them under a pickup truck like the way the original Bigfoot started.
As a guy that's had 14 real el Caminos, I really liked your build of one. It really looks good! My older brother would put on the mags with the whitewalls!
Those videos are very relaxing, and make me feel like it's ok to play, at any age.
Happy to hear that!
Nice Kit! AMT should have included some faux light wood paneling printed cardboard cutouts for the camper interior fixtures curtains, walls and ceiling
I like that idea to that would have been 😎 or maybe a separate kit interior with figures that would be even better
Great looking camper- just might take it out for Labor Day Weekend. Love the Pop and the hard hats - nice extra touch.
I built this kit when it came out back in ‘65. Glad to see it back.
I did too
Looking forward to the Camper! 😉👍
Thats an awesome looking car, that color choice is perfect for it with or without the camper and the tire/wheel combo is perfect, nicely done ❤❤, and the camp signs would look great on a post setting next to the car
That is an exceptional build!
That's a cool looking build..
I will getting this kit for sure … Really like what round 2 is doing these days
That's brings a new level to the El Camino. The mullet of automobiles. Business in the front and party in the back.
But the camper tops it.👍👍
Very nice. Kit. Glad you put the msg wheels on it it looks so cool. This is a work of art. . very nice . Love the colors thanks for sharing .
Exquisit build.
Very cool! That would be some tight quarters 1 to 1!
Oh man. This model is awesome. You’re making me broke. 😂
Very nicely done ! I’ve done this ‘65 twice now, including for a 24 hour build. I also was able to piece together a ‘64 El Camino, to display next to them.
Nice, simple kits that build very well.
Just bought this kit today. Looking forward to building it.
Cool! I will make use of the camper on one of my 66 Chevrolet truck models! I will redo the bottom part so it will become a slide in !
Great job!
What timing for this kit! The last kid only has a year or two of school and I was wondering if I really needed the space and expenses of the house. Maybe sell it all and get a camper. I need a bed, a stove and a work bench. I'm glad this didn't have an interior to tempt me more! Lol
I remember when you did the '65 El Camino Gear Hustler construction version... Been following you that long haha! That is one badass El Camino you did there! Love that camper too! Definitely can't wait to get one! It's the only El Camino kit I don't have in the stash!
A nice custom touch would be building out the inside of the camper.
Cheap DIY trick to paint model car and truck bodies is to use a empty spray can with a piece of blue tack on the spray can lid to hold the body in place. You can spin it around to paint it quite well. This little kit looks awesome I need to get it !!
Hi Chris, great job on this kit. Really like the color choices and a great job as always. I can’t wait to get mine and look forward to building this kit!
So happy to see this kit! Another great build!
Absolutely stunning work looks fantastic enjoyed watching
Excellent as always love the color and wheels. This kit is on my wish list.
I love muscle cars but these more whimsical kits really speak to me.
Great build, have that el camino several times all i need is that cramper! 😅
Would be great with my setup!
Thqnk you once again, less box spot to be on my kit wall, then i can build another for drag, OR find a six cylinder to put in a grandpa version! Have a great day chris, !
Another winner Chris! Excellence build & presentation 👌! I already have mine on order from Modelroundup!!
Most definitely a fun build love the color choice for the El Camino 👍👍
Nice build Chris. I am going online and get one order.
Have the buyers choice kit from several years ago.
some subtle chipping on the camper would look cool too
Great video Chris keep em coming and I'll keep watching
Great job Chris definitely
A kit to have
Body color is amazing great video Chris 😊
Can't wait for this kit to hit the store shelves here!
Great addition for the tires etc. I have an older '96 Buyers Club version which I was proud to have, now may have to see if a collector wants it, and pick this new one up for the addition of new tires etc. LOL
very nice !!
What a fun little kit
Awsome ! ❤
Another great build! 👍
Thanks for letting us know about this kit! 😊 pre-ordered one! 🎉
Looks Great to me !!!
I got a few '65 Gear Hustlers to do different versions. So since I would like only one version with camper I'll get it and use the extra parts for others. Seeing the custom grill I think I'll do a drag version and cut open the hood and use the MT slicks. I wonder 🤔 if the camper would fit on the '68 El Camino to.
Sweet build up, looking forward to getting a few of these and one on the bench soon!!
Right on!
This came out very nicely, and I'm sure some aftermarket people might come out with an interior tub for the camper shell. However, I like the simplicity of the basic kit and as usual from AMT all the additional parts and decals.
That would be cool!
Awesome always cool stuff always thanks 😎
Great looking results Chris. Nice kit! Have to get one. I still would like to do a drag camper. Thanks for the review.
Nice looking build sir!
Another nice build Chris! May have to pick this one up too.
no way I could have layed down that silver sharpie when I was drinking
Very nice kit. I would have painted the camper's bed sheets plaid, but that's just me. The rest of your choices are spot on. I like the "classic" almost dull, gold paint (very typical of all gold GMs back then). Wide Ovals, in the day, would make ANY car look better - and on mags - plus, plus. Thanks for a fun Saturday build. I'm off to buy some plaid bed sheets...
Thanks for watching!
Looks great !!
yeah i was gifted one in trade from freind from usa red on boxart witout the caravan camper on boxart but was in the kit so pleased I wanted to look clean as he done as a request the body only in a color i really wanted but it's immaculate I can do elco on its own but the camper I wondered when done if it looks cool b ut I and fit on truck back bed ill try and
can't wait to get one for me
Got to have that thank you
Everything about this kit looks great! Can't wait to get one. There is only one thing that I think could be better on this and that would be to have a separate from the chassis rear suspension so that you could manipulate the rear end height. It looks a little low in the rear to me. In fact, it doesn't appear to even look level. It might be the camera angle? Anyway, another great looking build!
You could use a pin vise and drill the axle holes in a different height, or if you have spare crew wagon or surf wagon, the bottom pan on those has two ride heights, and fit that el camino nicely!
Those are the 2 tips I have for that, it can be done!
@@ronaldhuff635 In the past, I have drilled new holes to adjust rear end height on quite a few kits and I show that on my channel. I'm not a huge fan of one piece chassis's. You cannot get it as good looking as a separate piece chassis. I also am not a fan of spending twice the money to get one kit out of it. So, it's off to breaking out the pin vise to adjust that sag...
Hi Chris, I really enjoy watching all your videos, as I have learned a great deal about the hobby. I am looking to find a Chevrolet Caprice Classic Station wagon. Any ideas where I might?
Thanks!
oh this is gonna be cool..!!!
love your videos
can you build the mercury 1949 custom?
Next do a gasser style with the camper......
I have the 65 gear hustler great build lots of the same stuff
I built that on the channel years ago. Video is older but it was a good time.
U do good in all ur building takes steady hands
Lovely kit and very nice colour choice Chris. Have mine on backorder here in France, just waiting for it to come in. Will be doing same as you, incl the wheel & tyre choice as it looks great. In real life, did the camper unit have legs when it was not in use off the truck?
Neat kit, awesome review as always! I still have the blue tinted windows and hop up parts from the Gear Hustler. Thankfully this kit isn't molded in,,, yellow. 🤢🤮
Thanks for the post and the fan looked a bit funky.
Just picked this kit up at Walmart for $25.
Nice 😅
Not really Interested in the kit but, BUT, I got the H/T (different brand) & the Wagon. W/ all the "Doo Dad's" why not. Many thanx 👍👍
I wonder if the camper will fit on a pickup?
Pretty much “old-school” techniques, which is fine.
Looks great! I restore and customize hot wheels and matchbox die cast. Do you know if the floor shine will work on those
I've used pledge on some old stuff that helped clean it up some
Not fair you get all the good stuff before I do !😢
Looks awesome as usual. Do you know if there are any after market camper interior kits?
Great video. One question what brand is the super glue you use? I use the S/G from the hobby shops that put the stores name on, and it’s crap.
Cheap dollar tree super glue.
I've noticed over several videos you use different color masking tape. Are these specific to your application or simply random? Thanks - love the presentation as always.
Washi tape comes in random colors in the tube. Same tape, different colored rolls.
What glue are you using?
Do they still make this model?....where would I find it?
What glue do you use?
What do you do with all the finished kits?
Have any of the subscription models been finished? The VW or Charger? Or did they go bankrupt? Nice call not to clear this, good job! 👀
Charger is near done. KITT is about 25% of the way. Videos will be coming.
Once those are done I'll be doing videos of the VW and Optimus Prime on subscription builds.
The company that folded is completely different then Deagostini/Fanhome.
@@hpiguy Wow. Thanks for the sit rep, I can't wait to see how them big boys turn out. 🚗
What glue are you using the brush on stuff
Plastruct Bondene, modelroundup.com carries it
What kind of glue is that he brushes on
Plastruct Bondene, modelroundup carries it
It’s great, and it’s the worst idea in the world.
Show your face !!!!
Don't be creepy.
I'm in plenty of videos.
its cool an all but can get out of this ugly year of el camino? where is the 1970 el camino?
Very nice work. I love the colors.
