A lot of detail I know guys so please refer to the description box for the key moments in the video. This is simply a detailed description of how I came to have this beard, keep it and be happy with it. Whether clean shaven, stubbled up or bearded to the max I wish you all the best and thanks for watching!

Hi, Just stumbled upon this video. Also 29 and this was refreshing to hear in such detail all the phrases that I'm sure all of us have gone through. The part that really struck a chord was that beard attempts (I've done/ am at this stage). This video has really inspired me to give it a go again. Thank you and be safe man.

I am not sure what to think. It's a very well done video, detailed, your voice is very calming, etc. And you've got some nice encouraging comments from Brayan Morgan and others. But I think that men these days are concerned about their beards just too much. Maybe I am wrong but my understanding is that we grow beards just to bring that masculine manly look back. But If you have (and I am not saying you but in general) 5 different beard/mustache brushes, 20 different oils, shampoos, balms, etc. that means you are doing something wrong.

I am obviously happy to be alive and have a great supportive family around me but I lost all my hair and with it all my confidence. Guy with a year and a half long beard here. Biggest advice is to just leave it. Shape up the cheek lines and neck a bit (just above Adam’s apple) but leave it. Until at least 6 months then maybe go to the hairdressers and get some shape into it. But then leave it again. Slap some beard oil on morning and night. Beard balm to tame it and you’re done. Beard oil and balm is the key. On a morning my beard is ugly but once brushed and oiled it’s a different story. If you have a messy curly beard then get a round brush and hair dry it on cool so it’s a bit more tamed. Do that after a shower when it’s wet with some beard oil on. Condition it every other day in the shower and do not over wash it. Once a week if that with beard not hair shampoo. My cheeks are thin for the first 3 months then fill out. Don’t over complicate it. Yes it will look like crap and people will comment but just push through and eventually it will all fill out. Also age has a big part to play. I couldn’t grow a beard in my 20s. I’m 30 now and it’s thick and about 7 inches long.

The reason light passes through the beard is because all the hairs grow at different speeds so the hairs are different lengths! Trim it back to where it’s darkest and then start the process again, trim every 4 months or so, eventually all the shorter hairs catch up and you get a little more length every time but the beard is as full as it can be! I’m about to start my second beard journey. I’m about a month in atm! Keep growin brotha!

Lads listen to young Harry he is wise beyond his years. I inherited MPB from my father and I went the minoxidil route and then spent a fortune on hair transplants which didn't work. My hair loss was delayed for years as I have been taking Propecia for my prostate at an age younger than most men. The pandemic may have been a blessing as I had a hard time getting to a barber so I used my head as it were and started to buzz it shorter and shorter to take the shock effect away a wise decision. After listening to this fine gent I said "what the blank" and shaved it off. I only wish I had done it years ago I would have saved myself a lot of money and anguish. As for the beard I must say Harry is spot on once again, don't give in to shaving it off just let it grow, let it grow, let it grow. As with the head this takes courage and most importantly patience. If one is lucky enough to have the great head shape and facial structure as he and I do, trust me you will not regret it. It may be psychological, but the shaved head counterbalanced with the mid to long beard "rocks it" as he would say. I can't quite explain it, but it gives one an almost erotic appearance, perhaps the beard with the baby bum smooth head, but I cannot stop touching my head. The only departure is that my hair was all grey so I have been dying my beard with the most popular beard dye on this side of the pond and again for me it looks so bloody natural. I am as happy as an Ipswich clam, Ipswich Ma. that is. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as to his beard length, but in about one more month or so mine shall look just about the same as his; great in my opinion. Lastly, if your girlfriend doesn't like your shaved head or your beard in her face, get a new girlfriend or better yet go with a guy they will be on you like white on rice with a lot less psychological drama. I am now sixty-five years old and most people think I look twenty years younger, so much so that I have to constantly prove my age to get a senior citizen discount. There are times when a man has to do what a man has to do!

Hi Harry, great video! I'm a dermatologist and I think the reason why you lost some of your beard gains was because you didn't taper off minoxidil. Whenever you quit cold turkey, your body doesn't have time to adapt, which results in massive shedding. I think that if you had used minoxidil for 18 months and slowly tapered off, you would have kept all of your gains. I disagree with the point you made of you losing all or most of your minoxidil gains. The minoxidil definitely gave a large majority of what you have now when you look at the before and after pictures. Sure age played a small role, but the terminal hairs you gained from using minoxidil are evident. I understand that you don't wanna use it anymore, but it really is 1-2 years where most guys get terminal or peak growth from minoxidil. You don't have to rely on minoxidil for life in terms of beard growth because beard hair reaches terminal class, unlike head hair which has androgen receptors and will fall off if you discontinue use. If you ever decide to use it in the future, just know to taper off and use it for at least 18 months. Like this comment so I know you read it and keep making these awesome videos!

Great video. I had no idea it was almost 30mins long - it flew by. It was really interesting to follow the stages of your beard journey, especially because I think I've had a similar path. It took me years to really give my beard a chance to come into its own. A couple of years ago I went deep into beard routines and products and I've been hooked ever since. It's so true what you say about knowing the limits of your beard. Once you get that first taste of a big beard, it's so tempting to just let it grow and grow. Now I find myself looking back at some of my content and wishing I didn't stick with the big beard for as long as I did. Recently I've had some big trims and it just clicked that shorter, not-so-huge styles suit me much more. It's all part of the journey though, and that's the fun of it. I love how I'm still learning ways to significantly improve my beard just by subtly changing my trimming and styling routines. I look forward to joining the bald brotherhood at sometime not too far down the line as well. You've made it much less daunting for me. Thanks!

tbh, I used minoxidil for 1.5 years and i have kept i would say 80% of all my gains. I've been of for months now (almost 4 to 6 months) and i really didn't have much before i started and it worked great. I wasn't consistent for the full 1.5 years only fo the first 8 months and there was a lot other things that I could have tried like dermarolling and what not and tbh. It was a fun ride.

I'm your age. For the longest time, I couldn't grow "proper" sideburns. Not that the beard was scarce over there, but it was difficult to get the beard to climb higher on my cheeks. Then I switched barbers about 7 months ago and the new guy refused to trim them... he asked me to let it grow out. It looked dodgy for the first 3 months and I was super tempted to give up and go back to the old trim... but I held on. Today, I've achieved some remarkable volume in the cheeks and women compliment the beard all the time.

Enjoyed the video Harry! I started buzzing my hair off just over 18 months ago and I was rocking long stubble with it for a while but this year during the quarantines I decided to give a beard ago just to see how it looked.
After getting to the awkward three-month stage during the first quarantine in the spring/summer I shaved it off, but I kind of regretted it a few weeks later.
So the last three months I’ve been trying again, but this time using a wooden comb and beard balm each day so that it looks and feels better. I’m so much happier with it this time around. I give it a trim once every 10 days or so just to tidy it up but not take off any bulk, clean up the neck and cheek lines et cetera. Going to be doing the beard and buzz cut to look for the foreseeable future I think!

Not sure if you’re self conscious about your hair line at all, but either way, you might want to consider looking into SMP for your scalp. With your head shape, facial structure, etc., SMP would give you a really natural buzzed head look and make you look 10 yrs younger.
I spent 3k on mine about 1.5 years ago and it’s by far the best investment I’ve made. I’m rather pasty and never had the disciple to get ripped, so I used to feel unable to leave the house without a hat. It’s incredibly freeing not having to think about matching clothes to hats and seeing a version of myself I feel confident about again when looking in the mirror.

Your beard will constantly evolve as you grow older, some patchy parts will fill in, others won't. The best thing you can do is to grow and maintain it. Only cut to shape it when it gets too uneven and thin twords the bottom, usually due to maximum growth where some hairs will grow longer than others. Great figures in history had beards like you, and any viking would say that your beard is just fine. Keep on keeping on bro

The first few months of my beard especially month one my beard looked awful. You really have to give it around 6 months of not touching it at all and you’ll get a better picture of how your beard is going to look. Now I’m at the 7-8 month mark and my beard is far better than I ever thought it could be. Sure I still have weak spots like most guys but the length really does wonders to cover them up.
