    I have made many of these, but use men's long tube socks. I live with mine around my neck and across my shoulder, and sit with it behind my back, wherever I ache. You can also put one in the freezer for a cold pack.
    My Grandchildren use them all the time. I make them in fun colors and designs for the kids.
    Best Hot Pad Ever.
    My husband has mine right now over his overworked arm. So much better than an electric heating pad.

    I did make a heat pack, but I made it differently, but with one sock, and it worked very well and it helps in my period thank you so much for giving me this idea it really helped my cramps😊

    Great video but I’m wondering how this is a moist heat? I have done this but it is a dry heat not moist. Is the towel moist?

      Great point! From my understanding rice holds on to the heat and slowly releases moisture as it cools.

    Better than buying one, for sure!The ones I saw on Amazon catch on fire after several uses.. Will this happen with the homemade rice heating pad too? Also I saw people on those videos heat up the pad with a glass of water- how does this help? Thx!!

    How can you clean these packs after many uses? Would hand washing them destroy the rice?

      You would have to dump the rice, wash the sock and refill with new or the dumped rice.

    Excellent! One webpage I came across mentioned using a mix of rice and flax seeds. Does anyone know any advantage of having flax seeds in there? Please let me know. Thank you.

      I have seperate hot packs with rice and flax, but not both mixed together. However I have not found a noticeable difference in either one.

    If fabric material is a concern then throw the pad in washer dryer could be a safest choice

      Yes you can use any dry rice, beans, corn, etc.

      Hi. Where does the moisture come when the rice is dry?! If there isn't moisture in the rice, or beans, how does the rice get heated in the microwave?

    You can also heat a cotton sock up on the stove top in a pan flipping constantly.

      Yes I would definitely decrease the microwave time with less rice.

    Do the socks have to be 100% cotton? Worried it could melt in microwave.

      Good question. I'm not sure, but many hot packs you purchase online that go in the microwave are made of a variety of materials such as fleece or linen.

      I've seen it called moist heat many places, thou I cannot yet find out why.

    When warming your sock in the microwave, be sure to put a cup of water in there as well!!

      I keep my rice in a closed tupperware container and I've never had an issue!

      Just untie the sock and dump the rice out in a bowl, then wash the sock and refill again.

    Where is the "moist" with the hot pack?

      The rice has moisture in it and when you microwave it the water gets excited and it becomes dampish.

    Food rotts. I've seen people use lava sand for that reason.
