  • The 6th March 1966 marked the day the famous Somerset & Dorset Railway running over the Mendips from Bath Green Park to Templecombe and onwards to Bournemouth West was closed by British Rail. 50 Years later the West Somerset Railway commemorated the anniversary of the Somerset & Dorsets Closure during their 6 day Spring Steam Gala.

The gala also saw the return of both 7F’s and 4F 44422 from their overhauls. Some fabulous footage here and I congratulate you on the angles chosen and the smoothness of the viewings. Personally I would dedicate it to all the volunteers and professionals who have made these fantastic scenes possible. The 7F's double heading makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Who would've believed this would have been possible 50 years on? Remember things like a goods train COST them money to run, just for our enjoyment. I salute you all!

    I am currently making a non-commercial film about cycling the North Dorset Trailway - that is the Somerset and Dorset trackbed as it now survives between Spetisbury and Sturminster Newton. It will be properly edited and produced and I would very much like to be able to include authentic Somerset and Dorset sounds, such as some of those in this film. Everything would be properly credited. Is this a possibility please?

      +Mr Farmer 875 also cock 'o' the North was painted black when is was running on The North Yorkshire Moors Railway?!!!

    • @JGProductionsRailways
      @JGProductionsRailways  8 лет назад

      +Mr Farmer 875 92214 was sold to the North Yorkshire Moors and painted to BR Lined Black, a couple of years later it was sold to the Great Central Railway and repainted into BR Green and renamed to Central Star, it's just visiting the WSR in this video.
