These diy molds are the best ones i've ever seen. Most molds you can tell they are selfmade but yours looks like one you coul buy from a Professional store!
FINALLY A CLEAR EMAIL!!!! Thanks soo much!! I had the question about which type of clay to use and none of the other videos ever mentioned. I also found the disposable cups ideas great since I been using card stock for a few of them.
you have good ideas, I like the pencil trick to evenly roll out the clay and pouring the silicone from up high to prevent bubbles is smart to, cant wait for my next craft project to try these techniques out. ^^
very clean and neat tutorial. I liked it very much. I appreciate if you could give some tutorial on 'molding' some thing like "window grill" design, but in smaller in size. Thank you so much.
Such a good tutorial, thank you! I just wasted a bunch of siligum over the weekend making bad moulds of macaron shells :(. Will have to try liquid silicone next. Also wondering about the oil-based clay...would childrens plasticine work?
Can you tell me if the mold you got using liquid silicon, was FLEXIBLE? and that because of its flexibility - i would be able to make a FINISHED piece in the shape of an "open" pine cone? Also, do you use the liquid silicone by itself, some how, or you mix it with something else? If so - what it is, and what is the ratio between these two? If you have the patience to reply - can you to reply to my email: yaffab1@aol.com. Thank you in advance.
Nicely done! Have you ever made an entire tray of molds... I am thinking this would be awesome to learn to make my own with what I do for work! xoxo Thank you for sharing! -EdieAnne
Thank you very much for this mold making demo. Do you also have a diy video on how to make 2 part mold. I make miniatures and I would like to learn how to make molds for some of the mini items I make so I can save some time. I know that some use resin to fill the inside of the finished double mold, but I would prefer to be able to use fimo or Sculpey (a clay type that you can bake. Although I know it's best not to bake the silicone mold itself). Thanks 🙏👍😃
I don’t have a 2 part mold tutorial but there are plenty of great videos here on RUclips. The platinum cure silicone can be baked as it withstand heat up to 400F so you can bake with your clay.
@@AmyMade thanks for your reply dear.😃 Just saw it now. I didn't know where to check your reply before now. 😃🙏 I believe that there are also some good flexible fimo clays out there (they might be called something else however) that you can bake and use as molds because they still bend after baking. I'd love to be able to make my very own homemade flexible clay for mold making. 😊
I have just discovered your And I am overwhelmed with all the ideas you have given me For continuing my resin journeys.... Especially making my own silicone moulds. My husband curses you in advance for the money I am about to spend lol
Ive been wanting to try my hand at making silicone molds for a while since I saw ladyjarheads tutorial. I prefer silicone molds over the plastic ones. Your tutorials have a way of getting me excited and lights a fire under my butt. Thanks for the tutorial. Definitely helps.
Hey Amy I had one questioned about the measuring part of the equal parts before mixing. When you measured the volume with the rice and got the measurement of what you needed (saying all of that was 4/4). You added 1/2 of that measurement of each molding star product to each cup before mixing to get 4/4 of the volume measurement?
+Samantha Hesuse once i found the total volume of the resin, i divided that in half. Say i 1 fl oz total. So i would mix 1/2 fl oz of part A and 1/2 fl oz of part B
Hi Amy! I have just got some silicon mold maker, but the thing is, the mixture is really thick and it's hard to pop air bubbles that are around the sides of the cupcake base. Can you suggest what i do in this case? Thank you!
Thank you so much! I am making a cake and I needed to make "nuts and bolts" and for the life of me I could not find what I needed but now I am confident enough to try. I did have a question, is this silicone food grade? I will be using the mold for fondant.
we're trying to do some plastic knobs.... is this particular formula designed not to stick to the part or should we put some non-stick coat on the parts before the silicon?
I love your video and I will be using to create a mold. Question for you, how can I create the mold having the detail from both sides of the master? That's my biggest issue right now. I can't think of a good way. Please please please help.
How accurate is the silicone mold compared to that of the master or object being cast with this brand product you use? Is there a noticeable amount of shrinkage or do you actually get a copy identical in size to the original object?
Great tutorial!! I have been thinking about trying the liquid silicone myself. How forgiving would you say it is when you add the ratios? It didn't look like you had to go back and forth between the cups. Also, is there any kind of bad smell?
I just bought this product. About ready to send back till i saw your video. I liked the results. Thank you so much. How long does this product last after opening?
What would you suggest if I wanted to do this with let's say bb's? I want to get really tiny spheres. I'm going to be using BB's like you would use for a BB gun.
Great video! One question though, about how much volume of silicone can you get from those bottles? I saw them on Amazon, but it doesn't list the volume, just the weight and I need kind of a big mold.
Can you use this to make molds for clear resin without it turning the resin "foggy" ? I have tested silicone putty for molds and while it works well for polymer clay and solid colored resin, it turns the clear resin foggy. I have Castin' Craft's Latex Mold builder and it works for clear resin but OMG it takes a million years to make a mold because you have to brush it on in layers and let each layer completely dry. Thanks for the video!
liquide silicone will capture all the details of your original. So, if your original is shiny, the mold will be shiny. If the original is dull/matte, the mold will also be matte.
Gotcha, I knew that part because I do seal my pieces with layer of varathane gloss before I mold them so that my mold is glossy too. But In some brands of silicone putty, like "amazing mold putty" for instance, their are tiny little microscopic holes in the mold that no matter what your original molded item is your clear resin will result in a frosted appearance..also I read that its partly due to air released by the mold itself. but liquid silicone of a higher quality should be different so Ill give this one a try. Were did you buy it? Online or someplace like Blick? Sorry for all the Q's ;p and thanks for a fast answer =D
At one point you said "this mold making method works great for pieces that do not have a flat bottom like this button". Is that because it sticks better in the clay? But the mold doesn't include the back at all right?
This is a great tutorial, but I was wondering will these mold work for soap making. I make Melt and Pour soap which can reach around 130°F when molding. Would it be able to stand that temperature?
So since polymer clay would react with it if it was the base piece, would it react with the silicone after it’s been cured, as in the polymer clay being the thing your making the mold of? I’m trying to make some molds for wax embeds and I thought polymer clay would be the easiest way to create my own design for it all
Great tutorial! I have just one question. After you measured the volume of silicone needed with rice, did you divide that measurement in half since you have a 1:1 ratio of parts A and B? I know it sounds like a silly question.
AnAlphaMom she didn't explicitly say but it looks like she's using Mold Star. you can buy it on eBay or other online sites. they come in different colors too
Can you do this at a larger scale? I am trying to make LEGO molds, like on Grant Thompson's tutorial on how to make LEGO candy. I want my mold to be just as big as his.
Lucas Anderson like 3-5 min? depends on the amount of silicone you are mixing too. The more silicone you have to mix, the longer it will take. As long as the silicone has no streaks, it should be completely mixed
May I use this method with my model in wax? It's my first time and I need a mold for multiple uses for casting (silver and/or aluminium). Second question.. How I can make a 2 parts for 3D pieces? 🤔 Thank you.
Yes, you can use wax. As long as it’s hard. I don’t have a video on how to make 2 part mold. But there are plenty of resources on RUclips if you search for it. Good luck

I am watching this video after 8 years of publication. Such simple and practical tricks. I am just amazed. It will help me a lot in the future.
Very professional and Amazing results!!! Thank you very much. This is by far the best tutorial I've seen!

modeling clay is exactly plasticine clay :)
Christi Friesen also uses polymer clay (unbaked) as the same base. It will work. The clay can still be used later.

How accurate is the silicone mold compared to that of the master or object being cast with this brand product you use? Is there a noticeable amount of shrinkage or do you actually get a copy identical in size to the original object?
