Such an underrated game people with no prior knowledge of the Butoden games probably had a hard time with this game we use to hold tournaments and usually it was either me vs my brother or me and my best friend and we would go back and forth with the meteor rushes. It was like watching an actual Dragonball fight.

One thing this game did that no other dragonball game did was build up tournament mode where u could train with a character and the more you used that character the more powerful they became. The more physica attacksl you used the more damage they would do the next time you used that character, The Same same went for ki blast. And The more damage you to the more health you would gain next time you used that character. Then you and a friend could pit your characters agent's each other and see who's character is stronger. Me and my friend used to spend tons of time training or character and each week we would pit them against each other. I rember having my basic ki blast so powerful I would one shot my friends character who had 11 health bars lol they never added a train your character type mode in any other dbz game that I know of
It's actually something that they copied from Ultimate Battle and has been used in a lot of later games in one way or another Dragon Universe in Budokai, Sim Dragon in Tenkaichi 3 are examples and technically the Xenoverse is about that

This game was underrated......and got unnecessary hate from people.....the majority of people who played this game played it in 2002-2004 or beyond by this time the PS2 generation was already going I still have the original 1997 English version which was incredibly rare less than 500k copies in usa if im not mistaken and I have the Japanese version as well......I played it during the ps1 era and most 3d fighting games were not refined as of yet. I would have loved to have seen a modern take on this game because it had lots of great ideas and it was my first dragon ball game I played/owned
If they hadn't spent the entire game budget on music composers and at least waited until Super 17 showed up in the anime, something good would have come of it.
Some these animations aren't bad tbh including the transitions. The movement reminds me of SuperDBZ a little. A few tweaks could have made this game great
Now THIS is what I'm talking about. No universal commands for EVERY chacracter (Tenkaichi platform games and Kakarott I'm looking at y'all.) These games from Tenkaichi till now are lazy and born as hell to play. Give me the classic games where you had to put in work to do a move/combo that made it so much more worth it. Every chacracter had their own theme song then instead of the lazy ass stage music from Budokai till now👎🏽 Final Bout ALL DAY EVERY DAMN DAY BABY!💯👍👍
